Abstract: A system and apparatus for increasing the safety of motor vehicles traveling at high speeds in the rearward direction is provided. An air dam hingedly secured to the aft end of a vehicle may remain in a stowed position while the motor vehicle is traveling in a forward direction so as not to interfere with aerodynamic performance. When a motor vehicle begins to enter a spin, the air dam may deploy and increase the downward force on the vehicle and as well as act as an air brake, thereby reducing the likelihood of the aft end of the vehicle lifting from the surface during a spin-out at high speeds.

  • Patent number: 6575180
Abstract: A filter cleaning and rinsing device for spas, pools, and Jacuzzi's that attaches to a garden hose for cleaning or rinsing a cartridge type spa filter by placing the filter on an inclining armature of the device. The armature sprays water inside the filter cartridge and is the centrifugally forced out through the fabric elements of the filter by high pressure spray jets trained on the exterior of the filter cartridge which simultaneously clean the exterior and spin the filter around the armature at a high speed creating the centrifugal force. The device may be molded and assembled using the same manufacturing processes as those used to make the spas which utilize cartridge type filters.

  • Publication number: 20140246363
Abstract: A water softening system of the cation exchange type includes a regeneration system where there is a discharge duct for discharging waste flush water to waste from the treatment tank during regeneration with a valve for controlling the outlet and the discharge duct so that during regeneration the water from the treatment tank does not flow to the outlet and is instead directed to the discharge duct. A brine tank is provided for containing a solution of salt in water for injection by a transfer arrangement into the treatment tank with a return valve in the discharge duct operable to return a portion of the waste flush water to the brine tank which is equal to the quantity drawn by a brine transfer arrangement, while all waste flush water not returned to the brine tank is discharged to waste.

  • Patent number: 4082091
Abstract: A hydrotherapeutic aerator assembly for mixing air as fine bubbles into the center of a stream of pressurized water has a swivelable ball carrying a nozzle in which mixing of air and water occurs before ejection of the stream into a pool or bath. A housing containing the ball and nozzle has half of a ball socket formed therein. A one-piece ball seal and retaining member attachable to the housing forms a second half of the ball socket. The nozzle is adjustable axially within the ball on cooperating threads and is made non-removable from the ball by a radially-extending O-ring snapped into a channel in a rearward part of the nozzle. A circumferential abutment surface in the ball prevents withdrawal of the nozzle beyond a selected position.

  • Patent number: 5947462
Abstract: A pump and filter assembly comprising a filter cover secured onto a filter body by a locking ring. A one-piece latching mechanism, integral to the locking ring and composed of flexible material, biases a latching end of the latching mechanism against the locking ring, causing the latching end of the latching mechanism to project through a slit in the locking ring into a notch on the outside of the filter body when the filter body is completely threadably engaged with the locking ring. The latching portion of the latching mechanism is easily biased away from the slit and the notch, facilitating disengagement of the locking ring from the filter body and filter cover. The entire latching mechanism is itself easily removed from the locking ring, facilitating repair or replacement of the latching mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4168705
Abstract: A one-way flow check valve is placed over an air inlet conduit to a hydrotherapy unit to prevent back flows of air and water up through and out of the conduit when the hydrotherapy nozzle outlet is blocked. A body of the valve contains a vertically-movable float which normally rests upon a retainer ring in a downward, air suction position. The float is raised upwardly and against a valve seat upon reverse flow of air and water. The light weight, buoyant construction of the float, as a hollow plastic member with top and side walls, allows the valve to shut off reverse flows of water whether fast or slow moving and to respond also to fast reverse flows of air ahead of a rising column of water. A retainer ring with float abutment pins retains the float in the body removably for cleaning the valve surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6605211
Abstract: The present invention relates to pool filters. An underdrain design is disclosed that primarily relies on a peripheral ring rather than lateral projections to transfer the water to the sand. The ends of the ring are not joined so that the ring is not closed. The ring is also bent into a helical shape which allows the ring to be screwed into an opening with a smaller diameter than that of the ring. The ring is radially slotted so that water flows radially from it in all directions both toward the center of the tank and away from the center, as well as straight up and down. Since the water transfer takes place primarily along an arc located relatively near the mid-point between the center and the perimeter of the tank, the disadvantages inherent in the concentration of the water flow at the center of the tank are eliminated.
