Abstract: A water hydrant is provided with a number of valves operable to eliminate freezing problems and to prevent backflow into potable water, thereby precluding the danger of contamination. Water and air valves operate in conjunction such that trapping of water in the hydrant is averted by the admission of air after each closing of the water valve. By a somewhat different arrangement in outlet spout valving, air is also admitted to the spout after each closing of the water valve or other reduction in water pressure, the spout valving having the additional feature of blocking backflow, all of which meets the anti-contamination requirements of the hydrant.

Abstract: In a blow molding apparatus where a plurality of sets of molds are mounted on a wheel rotatable about an axis and the molds are moved toward and away from one another to enclose a parison and the parison is blown to the confines of the cavity between the mold sections as the wheel rotates by the application of air, an apparatus for controlling the application of the air comprising a valve assembly associated with each set of molds on the wheel and comprising a valve which is opened and closed to control the flow of air to the mold. The valve assembly includes a rotatable cam for moving the valve to open and closed positions, a starwheel associated with the cam, and a first actuator mounted at a first position along the path of the wheel for engagement with the starwheel to rotate the cam and open the valve and a second actuator mounted at a second position along the path of the wheel for engagement with the starwheel to rotate the cam and close the valve.

Abstract: A tension measuring device including an elongated body having two ends and a deflection block secured to each end of the elongated body for holding a line spaced apart from the elongated body. The deflection blocks are positioned equidistant from a center of the elongated body. A clamping mechanism between the deflection blocks clamps the line to the elongated body wherein increased tension in the line will bend the elongated body. A strain gage element is connected to the elongated body for producing an output signal proportional to the bending of the elongated body. The strain gage element is positioned on the elongated body and is applied directly to the bending of the elongated body. A linearizing signal device is connected to the strain gage element for processing the output signal and for providing a readable output representative of the tension on the line.
Abstract: A pipeline video decoder and decompression system handles a plurality of separately encoded bit streams arranged as a single serial bit stream of digital bits and having separately encoded pairs of control codes and corresponding data carried in the serial bit stream, A reconfigurable decode and parser processing means positioned in certain of the stages is responsive to a recognized control token and reconfigures a particular stage to handle an identified data token.

Abstract: A self-cleaning assembly comprising an enclosed casing 1 with a movable piston 31 and filters 32,33 therein. The preferred assembly has a casing 1 with a dirty water inlet 5, a first outlet 6 for clean filtered water and a second outlet 7 for the removal of sludge from the casing. The filter assembly is constructed and arranged to provide, in its normal operating mode, a liquid flow path through the filter 32,33 in a first direction between the dirty water inlet 5 and the clean water outlet 6 and, in a cleaning mode, to provide a liquid flow path in a second direction between the dirty water inlet 5 and the sludge outlet 7. In the cleaning mode, the movable member 31 compresses the filters 32,33 during the liquid flow in the second direction and contaminant is released therefrom for removal from the filter assembly via the second outlet 7. In an alternative embodiment, the sludge outlet 7 is omitted and sludge is removed from the casing via the outlet 6.

Abstract: A plurality of data storage modules form a library, with a directory archive maintaining a directory of the information contained on each data storage module (file server application) or on the storage modules retained in the library (volume server application). A plurality of interface computers are coupled to a plurality of host computers for receiving data and for generating request signals to access the library. In response to a received request signal, the directory archive locates a data storage module and generates a location output signal. A control computer receives the location output signal and generates a media access signal for causing the data storage module to be loaded into a selected data recorder. An input/output data channel couples the interface computer generating the access request signal to the selected data recorder for reading or writing an entire volume of information or selected file information to/from the data storage module.

Abstract: A pond pump having a housing (1) enclosing a synchronous motor (9) with a drive shaft (40) on which an impeller (20) is loosely fitted so that, on start up, the shaft (40) can rotate relative to the impeller (20) until a pair of diametrically opposed keyways (43) on the shaft engage and entrain keyways (27) on the impeller (20) to rotate it continuously in one direction. If the drive shaft initially rotates in the opposite direction, pegs (25) on the rear face of the impeller (20) engage with a detent (60) located behind the impeller (20) to stop said rotation until the motor (9) restarts and rotates the drive shaft (43) in said first direction. One end of the drive shaft (40) is received in a first bearing (50) mounted in the housing (1), the other end of said shaft being received in a blind bore (28) in the impeller (20) which is coaxial with the axis of rotation of the shaft (40).
