  • Publication number: 20230364605
Abstract: Provided are methods of engulfing particles into droplets. The methods use a microfluidic device comprising a droplet generator and a chamber, the chamber comprising a liquid medium disposed on a voltage supply electrode and a ground electrode. The methods comprise dispensing a particle and a droplet into the liquid medium, and dielectrophoretically trapping the particle and the droplet using the voltage supply electrode and the ground electrode. The methods further comprise engulfing the particle into the droplet, wherein the engulfing comprises increasing a supply voltage between the voltage supply electrode and the ground electrode, thereby moving the droplet toward the voltage supply electrode and engulfing the particle into the droplet. In certain embodiments, the methods further comprise modifying the engulfed particle, assessing the engulfed particle, or both. Devices that find use in practicing the methods of the present disclosure are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20130268749
Abstract: The present invention relates to digital rights management (DRM) for content that downloaded and saved to a storage device. The storage may be a disk drive, or network attached storage. In addition, the storage device performs cryptographic operations and provides a root of trust. The DRM employs a binding key, a content key, and an access key. The binding key binds the content to a specific storage and is based on a key that is concealed on the storage. The binding key is not stored on the storage device with the content. The content key is a key that has been assigned to the content. The access key is determined based on a cryptographic combination of the content key and the binding key. In one embodiment, the content is provisioned based on the access key and stored in encrypted form in the storage device.

  • Publication number: 20110055984
Abstract: Transmission efficiency and/or spatial resolution provided by resonant apertures can be enhanced by disposing a tip on part of the screen that extends laterally into the aperture. For example, a tip disposed on the ridge of a C-shaped aperture can dramatically improve performance. A spatial resolution of ?/50 has been experimentally demonstrated with this approach. The combination of high spatial resolution and high transmission efficiency provided by this approach enables many applications, such as near field optical probes for near field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM). Another application is high resolution electron sources, where an photoelectron emitter can be disposed at or near a tip+aperture structure such that the high resolution optical near-field provides a correspondingly high resolution electron source.

  • Publication number: 20120036041
Abstract: The embodiments provide for legally transferring multimedia content stored on a medium to a personal content archive device. The device is configured to consolidate a user's content into a single device or secured storage that allows easy access to the content while preserving the digital rights of the content. When a content medium has been provided, the device queries a registration service over a network, such as the Internet, to register the content and indicate that it was legitimately obtained. The device may then be authorized to download and store an authorized version of the content into its secured storage. The authorized version may be the same or a variation of the registered content. The content may then be downloaded from one or more content sources. The registration process may be based on several criteria, such as an authenticity check of the medium, a fee payment, and the like.

  • Patent number: 10859517
Abstract: Single X-ray grating differential phase contrast (DPC) X-ray imaging is provided by replacing the conventional X-ray source with a photo-emitter X-ray source array (PeXSA), and by replacing the conventional X-ray detector with a photonic-channeled X-ray detector array (PcXDA). These substitutions allow for the elimination of the G0 and G2 amplitude X-ray gratings used in conventional DPC X-ray imaging. Equivalent spatial patterns are formed optically in the PeXSA and the PcXDA. The result is DPC imaging that only has a single X-ray grating (i.e., the G1 X-ray phase grating).

  • Patent number: 10033743
Abstract: The embodiments provide for binding files to an external drive, a secured external drive, or portable data locker. The files are bound in order to help restrict or to prevent access and modification by certain computers or users. Computers or users that are authorized or within the authorized domain are permitted full access. The files stored on the external drive may be bound in various ways. The files may be encapsulated in a wrapper that restricts the use and access to these files. The bound files may require execution of a specific application, plug-in, or extension. A computer may thus be required to execute program code that limits the use of the secured files. In one embodiment, the external drive provides the required program code to the computer. In other embodiments, the required program code may be downloaded from a network or provided by an external authority.

  • Patent number: 6104511
Abstract: The holographic storage and retrieval system according to the present invention comprises one convex reflector and one concave reflector having the same optical axis. The reflective surfaces of the two reflectors are opposite each other. The concave reflector is normally larger than the convex reflector. The holographic storage medium is positioned at the focal surface of the concave reflector. The spherical reflector system according to the present invention has nearly ideal performance off-axis: high bandwidth, low aberration imaging is permitted at a number of radial and axial locations. Thus, multiple SLM/CCD pairs can be placed off-axis to access the same storage medium and implement multiple interconnects.
