  • Patent number: 6499054
Abstract: A method and system for enabling multiple users from different physical locations to access, observe, control and manipulate physical processes and devices over a computer network such as the Internet is disclosed. A user may visually monitor the physical set up and state of an experiment or environment by receiving live video and data, as well as directly control instrumentation while receiving live feedback regarding the input commands. Measurement data may be collected into a database and computational analysis can be generated and displayed as a physical process is being performed. An online interactive laboratory notebook is also provided that manages items such as collected data, laboratory parameters, “to do” lists, personal notes, etc.

  • Patent number: 4953924
Abstract: A method for promoting enhanced nondestructive reconstruction of holograms recorded in photorefractive media involves control of the polarization states of the reconstruction beam and the recording beams, control of the cummulative recording energy, and use of a relatively high external field applied across the media during recording which is subsequently reduced during reconstruction. The resulting reconstruction history characteristics are selectively tailored by adjusting the polarization and intensity of the reconstruction beam, the recording geometry, and the applied voltage during reconstruction and recording, and various other parameters. In general, the reconstruction efficiency starts at a relatively high level, initially reduces, and then subsequently grows above the starting value, and can be made substantially nondestructive over a typical reconstruction cycle, with erasure times exceeding forty-five minutes.

  • Patent number: 10645091
Abstract: The embodiments provide for binding files to an external drive, a secured external drive, or portable data locker. The files are bound in order to help restrict or to prevent access and modification by certain computers or users. Computers or users that are authorized or within the authorized domain are permitted full access. The files stored on the external drive may be bound in various ways. The files may be encapsulated in a wrapper that restricts the use and access to these files. The bound files may require execution of a specific application, plug-in, or extension. A computer may thus be required to execute program code that limits the use of the secured files. In one embodiment, the external drive provides the required program code to the computer. In other embodiments, the required program code may be downloaded from a network or provided by an external authority.

  • Publication number: 20130268759
Abstract: The present invention relates to digital rights management (DRM) for content that may be downloaded and securely transferred from one storage to another storage. The storage may be a disk drive, or network attached storage. The storage performs cryptographic operations and provides a root of trust. The DRM system enables secure copying or transfer of content from one storage device to another storage device. In this embodiment, a trusted server that is authenticated and trusted by both storage devices brokers the transfer of content. The trusted server may be a separate entity of the DRM system or may be a component or function of an existing server of the DRM system. In another embodiment, the storage devices may transfer content in a peer-to-peer fashion. The transfer of content may be authorized and controlled based on a digital certificate associated with the content.

  • Patent number: 7327445
Abstract: An improved surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor is provided based on direct measurement of the Goos-Hänchen effect. Sensor sensitivity is enhanced by selecting the thickness of the metallic layer of the SPR sensor to be close to a critical thickness dcr where the effect of the surface plasmon resonance on the Goos-Hänchen shift is most pronounced. Overall sensor sensitivity is surprisingly found to improve with this approach, even though the measurement is based on a second order effect (i.e., the Goos-Hänchen shift) instead of the first order reflectance change measured in conventional SPR sensor approaches. The invention is also applicable to sensors based on measurements of other non-specular reflection parameters, such as temporal shifts, frequency shifts, and/or angular shifts.

  • Patent number: 8831218
Abstract: The present invention relates to digital rights management (DRM) for content that downloaded and saved to a storage device. The storage may be a disk drive, or network attached storage. In addition, the storage device performs cryptographic operations and provides a root of trust. The DRM employs a binding key, a content key, and an access key. The binding key binds the content to a specific storage and is based on a key that is concealed on the storage. The binding key is not stored on the storage device with the content. The content key is a key that has been assigned to the content. The access key is determined based on a cryptographic combination of the content key and the binding key. In one embodiment, the content is provisioned based on the access key and stored in encrypted form in the storage device.

  • Patent number: 7917628
Abstract: Applications, systems and methods for efficiently accessing and controlling data of devices among multiple computers over a network. Peer-to-peer exchanges of data between private computers is made possible while providing seamless, firewall-compliant connectivity. Such functionality is available even among private users over a public network, and even when multiple firewalls must be passed through. A firewall compliant connection may be established between a local computer and at least one remote computer; at least one file on a storage device associated with one of the computers is selected, and securely sent to at least one other computer over the secure connections. Computers may be connected over a wide area network with or without a connection server, with or without a VPN.

  • Patent number: 5940514
Abstract: An encryption method and apparatus for holographic data storage are disclosed. In a system using orthogonal phase-code multiplexing, data is encrypted by modulating the reference beam using an encryption key K represented by a unitary operator. In practice, the encryption key K corresponds to a diffuser or other phase-modulating element placed in the reference beam path, or to shuffling the correspondence between the codes of an orthogonal phase function and the corresponding pixels of a phase spatial light modulator. Because of the lack of Bragg selectivity in the vertical direction, the phase functions used for phase-code multiplexing are preferably one dimensional. Such phase functions can be one-dimensional Walsh functions. The encryption method preserves the orthogonality of reference beams, and thus does not lead to a degradation in crosstalk performance.
