  • Publication number: 20080175223
Abstract: The present invention enables users of a packet-switched network service, e.g., a VoIP network service who live in the same household and share a common phone number to have individualized calling name identifiers transmitted in their call setup messages. Each user in the household would have a different individual user identifier which they could dial to signal to the network immediately before dialing the phone number when they want to place a call that would transmit their personalized individual calling name identifier in the call setup message.

  • Publication number: 20100098063
Abstract: A method and apparatus for establishing multiple application sessions, such as video, audio, voice, and data sessions, and displaying them on a video display device such as a television are disclosed. These sessions can be independent of each other or the user can request the network to join these sessions so that a single session is created. For example, a user can request the network to create a video session and a music session and combine them into one session, so the audio portion of the video session is replaced by the user specified music contents and so on.

  • Patent number: 7733850
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling dynamic codec selection on a per application basis are disclosed. Specifically, before establishing call legs to connect VoIP endpoints, the Call Control Element (CCE) consults any invoked application server to determine the preferred codec method and communicates this preference to the appropriate Border Elements involved in the call. The preferred codec method is then negotiated between the corresponding calls legs while the call media path is being established.

  • Patent number: 7440445
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling subscribers to store telephone numbers and/or URLs embedded in streaming video contents associated with a video session being shown on video display devices into address books hosted in the network. Subscribers can then access these phone numbers to place phone calls using information stored in the network address books by activating a voice session. Similarly, subscribers can also access URLs to browse websites using URLs stored in the network address books by activation a web session.

  • Publication number: 20100098067
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling calls destined for a terminating point on a packet network, e.g., a VoIP network, that is experiencing a service disruption to be forwarded by the network to another endpoint is disclosed. The method enables subscribers to register an alternative number, such as a cell phone number, a relative's phone number, or a work number, that the network can use to forward calls in the event of a service disruption. In one embodiment, the provider can even use an alternative transport network, such as the PSTN, to forward these calls until the VoIP network service is restored.

  • Patent number: 8934474
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a subscriber who is originating a call to a called party endpoint to specify call handling treatments when a busy or a no answer network condition is encountered when calling the called party endpoint with no subscribed network based voice mail service are disclosed. The subscriber, for example, can re-originate the call that is originally directed to a home phone number of the called party to a cellular phone number of the called party instead upon encountering a busy or no answer network condition.

  • Patent number: 8615003
Abstract: Method and apparatus for handling timeouts in a packet-switched communication network is described. In one example, at least one timeout condition of a network element is identifies in the packet-switched communication network. Packet delay is determined in a transport network of the packet-switched communication network in response to the at least one timeout condition. The packet delay is compared to a threshold packet delay. A timeout parameter of the network element is automatically adjusted if the packet delay satisfies the threshold packet delay.

  • Patent number: 7415010
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling the creation of customer specified service logic are disclosed. The method enables a service provider to define a plurality of pre-built blocks of service logic for constructing basic and advanced telephone services, to enable the customer to use the pre-built blocks to construct the service logic, to receive the service logic from the customer, to verify the accuracy and/or completeness of the service logic and to activate the service. This flexible approach allows a customer to select the exact package of services that the customer wishes to receive. The selected services match exactly the customer's need and allow the service provider to remain competitive.

  • Publication number: 20090316596
Abstract: The present invention enables a method for following the state of a call and generating defects as function of call completion success as opposed to discrete events that happen at individual network elements during the call. In one embodiment, the invention uses Call Detail Records (CDR) to analyze the end-to-end completion status to measure per call basis defects instead of using defect codes generated by network elements on a per equipment basis. CDR is data associated with a telephone call, including the calling and the called numbers, the date and timestamp, the duration, the call setup delay, and the final handling code of the telephone call.

  • Patent number: 8675857
Abstract: The present invention enables network providers of toll free calls to give customers a choice of what network announcements they want to listen to as they wait in queue. For example, customers could select to hear silence with periodic estimations of wait time, different types of music, current global, domestic, or local news, information about sports or financial information. The present invention allows customers to toggle between different selections via a predefined Dual Tone Multiple Frequency (DTMF) signal.
