Patent number: 8625770Abstract: A method and apparatus for monitoring a network element in a communications network are described. In one example, an alarm message from the network element when a change in rate associated with at least one of a central processing unit (CPU) utilization or a memory usage by the network element exceeds a predefined threshold. An instruction is subsequently sent to the network element to reduce the change in rate associated with the at least one of the CPU utilization or the memory usage.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2005Date of Patent: January 7, 2014Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P.Inventors: Marian Croak, Hossein Eslambolchi

Publication number: 20100104079Abstract: Method and apparatus for monitoring a communication network is described. In one example, call detail record data generated by network elements in the communication network is parsed to identify occurrence of a plurality of blocked calls over a time period. A plurality of consolidated call detail records for the plurality of blocked calls are respectively generated from the call detail record data. Each of the plurality of consolidated call detail records includes an originating telephone number. The originating telephone number of each of the plurality of consolidated call detail records is then processed to identify unique originating telephone numbers for the plurality of blocked calls.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2009Publication date: April 29, 2010Inventors: MARIAN CROAK, Hossein Eslambolchi

Patent number: 7903798Abstract: Method and apparatus for monitoring blocked calls in a communication network is described. In one example, calls in network segments of a packet network are monitored. A graphic representation of each of the network segments is displayed. A block call threshold is associated with each of the network segments. Each of the network segments is monitored to identify a number of blocked calls. For each network segment, the graphic representation is automatically modified to indicate an alarm in response to the number of blocked calls identified for the network segment exceeding the blocked call threshold associated with the network segment.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2005Date of Patent: March 8, 2011Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P.Inventors: Marian Croak, Hossein Eslambolchi

Method and apparatus for providing user access via multiple partner carriers for international calls
Patent number: 7734024Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing subscribers of a VoIP service provider to take advantage of wholesale arrangements made by the VoIP service provider with one or more international partner carrier network providers to one or more international countries are disclosed. Specifically, the present method enables a VoIP service provider to display a web page to their subscribers, for each destination country, with one or more international partner network providers and their corresponding calling rates and/or call completion success rates to each particular destination country.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2005Date of Patent: June 8, 2010Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Marian Croak, Hossein Eslambolchi -

Patent number: 8520816Abstract: The present invention enables a method for following the state of a call and generating defects as function of call completion success as opposed to discrete events that happen at individual network elements during the call. In one embodiment, the invention uses Call Detail Records (CDR) to analyze the end-to-end completion status to measure per call basis defects instead of using defect codes generated by network elements on a per equipment basis. CDR is data associated with a telephone call, including the calling and the called numbers, the date and timestamp, the duration, the call setup delay, and the final handling code of the telephone call.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 2012Date of Patent: August 27, 2013Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P.Inventors: Marian Croak, Hossein Eslambolchi

Patent number: 8837695Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring pattern shifts in call patterns, e.g., call volumes and/or feature usage in a packet network, e.g., a VoIP network is disclosed. The present method collects performance data over a set period of time and constantly compares each periodic sample with the previous periodic sample on a rolling window basis. Changes of a pre-defined percentage threshold, e.g., approximately 30%, or more in a current sampled period are alarmed and monitored to preclude potential service disruptions. In one embodiment, upon receipt of these alarms, network elements that are vulnerable to discontinuities due to overload can be automatically reset or cleared of hung processes.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2005Date of Patent: September 16, 2014Assignee: AT&T Intellectual Property II, L.P.Inventors: Marian Croak, Hossein Eslambolchi

Patent number: 7450502Abstract: The present invention enables a graphical display of network call volumes in a predefined period before and after network alarm indications that show serious service disruptions to help determine if surges in call volumes precipitated the service disrupting event. When a surge of call volumes occurs and subsides, the graphical display of current network call volumes can be compared against historical trends of normal call traffic volumes and rates. The network will be placed in a high alert state and monitored for the predefined period of time. If the comparison shows aberrations between the historical trends and the current trend within the predefined period time window, then the network operator will be informed to take actions.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2005Date of Patent: November 11, 2008Assignee: AT&T Corp.Inventors: Marian Croak, Hossein Eslambolchi
