  • Patent number: 5280261
Abstract: An arc quenching, current limiting fuse utilizing a fuse link having a plurally of bends which cause the fuse link to come in contact or come in close proximity to the inside wall of the fuse body. When a short circuit and electrical arc occurs, the fuse link material burns toward the fuse wall creating an interaction with the fuse wall and an increase in pressure which extinguishes the arc.

  • Patent number: 5247873
Abstract: A spherical joint and bearing assembly utilizes a ball and socket arrangement between a connecting rod and a crosshead in a power reciprocating fluid pump. The connecting rod is spherically shaped and is held in a thrust bearing having a matching interior surface. A split retraction ring is held between the rear portion of the sphere and a shoulder in the crosshead. The result is an increased bearing surface and reduction in misalignment.

  • Patent number: 5247280
Abstract: An integrated circuit is utilized to control a switch so the flash rate and duty cycle of a flasher system is accurately regulated. The tighter control allows two flash rate and duty cycle combinations whereby a driver perceives a significant difference between the two settings, normal operation and lamp out operation. Such a feature allows one flasher to meet all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards when used as a combination flasher for a 3-lamp turn signal and a 6-lamp hazard warning lighting system in vehicles.

  • Patent number: 5239291
Abstract: A dual element ferrule fuse includes a short circuit element and an overload element. The overload element includes a heater element which, in addition to carrying heat, is designed to partially enclose the overload element with tabs that provide a weldable surface between the element and the metallic end cap, thus eliminating the need for a separate washer. Additionally, the tabs serve to center the element in the end cap and retain the element at a certain point in the fuse body between assembly of the fuse and soldering of the cap to the weldable surface.

  • Patent number: 5224715
Abstract: An improved metal-to-metal seal of a generally U shaped configuration which utilizes an enlarged seal portion on the interior and exterior of the inner and outer seal legs to effect an initial seal. The initial interference of the seal legs is maintained by disposing a solid support ring in the annulus between the seal legs with holes in the support ring to prevent pressure lock and to balance pressure distribution within the seal. The invention is shown in a unidirectional form with a single pair of seal legs extending axially from an annular base and in a bidirectional form with a pair of seal legs extending axially in both directions from an annular base. An alternative form of the invention discloses a support member of U shaped configuration which allows greater flexibility in the seal legs while maintaining initial sealing contact. This support member also has holes to prevent pressure lock and to balance pressure distribution within the seal.

  • Patent number: 5217079
Abstract: A hydro-impulse screwing device comprises a rotary drive motor, a power source for the motor, a drive shaft, a pulsating hydraulic drive connecting the motor to the shaft and a power cut-off for the motor. The load at which the power cut-off functions is adjustable. The tool has a borehole extending through the length of the shaft, a conduit for conducting hydraulic fluid from the drive to the borehole, a valve in the borehole movable from a closed position to an open position in response to hydraulic pressure corresponding to a predetermined load to allow hydraulic pressure from the drive to actuate the power cut-off, a biassing element in the borehole for biassing the valve toward a closed position against the hydraulic pressure, wherein the force of the biassing element is adjusted at the end of the drive shaft to change the load at which the power cut-off operates.

  • Patent number: 5209256
Abstract: A sealing arrangement in which a sealing member 25 seals against an annular sealing surface 20. The sealing member 25 has an annular sealing surface 29 the axis of which is offset relative to the rotational axis of the surface 20. Thus when the annular surface 20 rotates the area swept out by the sealing member surface is larger than the area of its sealing surface. The arrangement has application to seals for gate valve stems.

  • Patent number: 5204654
Abstract: A fuse housing for an oil-cooled transformer that uses a stopper to prevent oil from escaping the transformer tank as the fuse and fuse holder are removed. During normal operation, the stopper is held in an open position by the fuse holder. When the fuse and fuse holder are removed, the stopper closes and seals the upper end of the holder, preventing oil from draining through the upper portion of the fuse housing and escaping from the transformer tank.

  • Patent number: 5202636
Abstract: A system for testing electrical lamps includes a hollow cylinder. Lamps are placed in the hollow cylinder and the light emitted from the lamp is focused onto a phototransistor by a focusing lens. The output of the phototransistor is measured against the electrical voltage input into the lamp. If the output of the phototransistor lags behind the input voltage to the lamp by more than a predetermined amount, the lamp is rejected.
