  • Patent number: 6522400
Abstract: Apparatus to align the front wheels of a go-cart or other wheeled vehicle on which front wheel toe-in is adjustable. A laser disposed adjacent a horizontally disposed scale is selectively detachably mounted to the rear axle of the go-cart at one of the sides of the go-cart and a mirror member is selectively detachably mounted to the front spindle on the same side of the go-cart. The laser is oriented to emit a laser beam at a perpendicular to the rear axle and onto the mirror of the mirror element which reflects the laser beam back toward the scale. Toe-in of one front wheel of the vehicle may be adjusted precisely by viewing the separation of the emitted laser beam and the impingement of the reflected beam on the scale. The apparatus may then be mounted on the opposite side of the vehicle and the other front wheel adjusted. Alternate mounting means are described which permit the laser and scale and the mirror member to be mounted to the go-cart without removing its wheels and without suspending the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 6460008
Abstract: A yield monitoring system for a grain harvesting combine includes a volume monitor, a moisture monitor, a test weight monitor, a ground speed monitor, and a computer which receives signals from each monitor and continuously derives harvested grain yield rates from those signals, displays the yield rates on a visual display and records the yield rate information for later recall and transfer to other computers. A GPS receiver linked to the system enables it to map yields geographically in the harvested field. The volume monitor receives all grain exiting the clean grain elevator of the combine and passes it through a paddlewheel, the angular displacement of which is monitored over time. The moisture monitor and test weight monitor are mounted to the exterior of the clean grain elevator and receive samples of grain from the lift side of the clean grain elevator.

  • Patent number: 6454285
Abstract: A wheelchair for use in care facilities includes a seat lift mechanism and a chair tilt mechanism both of which are actuated by a single lever. Operation of the lever elevates the rear of the seat and raises the rear of the wheelchair thereby moving the wheelchair occupant toward a standing position and reduces the lifting effort of the attendant in assisting the debilitated patient to move out of the wheelchair.

  • Patent number: 6382610
Abstract: A tool to reduce the rotational force on a pipe to be held in a chain vise includes a curvilinear or inverted V-shaped base which saddles the pipe to be held. A U-shaped frame is mounted to the base such that one or more roller bearings may be mounted between the opposing sides of the U-shaped frame. The roller bearings provide a bearing surface for the chain of the chain vise, allowing the chain to be tensioned without applying torque to the pipe to be held. A pair of the tools may be spaced apart upon the periphery of a large pipe with the chain passing over the roller bearings of each tool.

  • Patent number: 6296614
Abstract: A versatile needle guide for attachment to an ultrasound transducer probe. The needle guide includes an open topped generally vertical passageway formed between a base member and a gauge top which is hingedly mounted to the base member. A spring urges a grooved face on the gauge top into abutment with a flat face on the base member. The gauge top may be pivoted about the hinge mounting to separate the grooved face from the flat face to open the side of the passageway to allow a needle to be removed from the needle guide. The gauge top may be easily disassembled from the base for interchange with another gauge top having a different size of groove.

  • Patent number: 6201497
Abstract: An enhanced positioning and navigational system for use within a building or otherwise separated by a line-of-sight barrier from an orbiting global navigation satellite system such as Navstar GPS. An antenna placed at a known location within line of sight of orbiting global navigation satellites receives global position and navigation signals and relays the signals through the line-of-light barrier to an identifier which identifies the signals and couples the signals for individual broadcast from each of an array of broadcast antennae located at known fixed locations within the building (behind the line-of-sight barrier). A receiver located within the building receives the signals broadcast from the antenna array and through use of a processor interprets the signals to provide position and navigation information to the user of the receiver. In an alternate embodiment, a signal generator generates navigation and positions information signals of a multiplicity of broadcast beacons.

  • Patent number: 6179757
Abstract: Exercise apparatus for strengthening the arm, shoulder, and back muscles. A weight bearing bar capable of holding free weights is moved through a path as the user draws a pair of elongate handles over the front of the body. As the weight bearing bar is moved, the moment arm of the weight is reduced, thereby reducing the effort required to draw the elongate levers downward as the leverage of the user's muscles declines. The elongate handles are mounted to a moveable assembly which is rotatable over a limited range and also is pivotable toward the user. The apparatus may be placed in a storage position when use is complete.

  • Patent number: 6170383
Abstract: A bypass valve is disclosed which relieves pressure on the end cap and rod guide of a cylinder as the piston approaches them. The bypass valve has a cylindrical body with end caps on each end, the end caps serving as stop members. The bypass valve is provided with longitudinal grooves along the cylinder body, along which working fluid can pass through a bore in the piston in which the bypass valve is inserted. Inner smaller diameter counterbores and outer larger diameter counterbores are provided coaxially with the bore on the opposing faces of the piston. The end caps of the bypass valve are received in the counterbores when the piston is urged along the cylinder. When the piston approaches either the rod guide or the end cap, the bypass valve is urged away from its seated position when an end cap of the bypass valve touches the approached rod guide or end cap of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 6149169
Abstract: A suspension fork for caster wheels providing shock absorption, comfort and safety while maintaining the original castering characteristics. A fork supporting a wheel on an axle is allowed to pivot about a second axle or pin located at the opposite end of the fork, forward and above the trailing wheel. The forward pivot is housed inside an upper block, which acts as a mounting fixture to the desired vehicle. A stem bolt protrudes from the upper block into the vehicle's caster housing containing bearings providing sideways rotation for steering purposes. The pivoting action of the fork and wheel about the upper block is controlled by a spring/dampener of polymer seated between the two blocks. Rigid tabs or mechanical lock outs limit the range of fork pivot and capture the elastomeric material until the forward pin is removed. Standardized axle and stem bolt dimensions allow the suspension caster to readily replace a conventional rigid caster fork.
