  • Patent number: 7292616
Abstract: Systems and methods for stabilizing a CO2 laser are disclosed. The system includes a detector unit for measuring the power in a select portion of the output beam. The detector unit generates an electrical signal corresponding to the measured power. The modulation frequency of the signal used to modulate the relatively high-frequency radio-frequency (RF) pump signal is filtered from the electrical signal. The filtered electrical signal is then compared to a desired value for the output power in the output beam. Based on the comparison, a modulation control signal for modulating the RF pump signal is formed. The modulation control signal has a varying duty cycle that varies the amount of laser pump power to reduce or eliminate the measured variations in the output beam power. The result is an output beam power that remains stable over time.

  • Patent number: 7284638
Abstract: A speaker enclosure including a compact quarter wavelength transmission path in the shape of a closed spiral that expands radially outward from a centrally located loudspeaker mounting location. The height of the transmission path has a minimum height that is equal to the height of the basket of the desired speaker. The quarter wavelength transmission path spiral of the provides an aerodynamic path for air flow therein which reduces the turbulence of air flow to a minimum that in turn provides even resistance to the air flow within the transmission line (Exhale vs. Inhale).

  • Patent number: 7284434
Abstract: A lightweight apparatus for performing ultrasonic immersion inspection of a workpiece in an arbitrary orientation that uses significantly less couplant and has a reduced footprint size while providing ultrasonic performance levels comparable to those typically reached using immersion tanks, bubblers, or Dripless Bubblers™ while accommodating large and small ultrasonic beamwidths. The apparatus can be used with manual, automated, or electronic scanning techniques. The apparatus provides a quickly enabled ultrasonic coupling means that minimizes the area of the part wetted, and also can recover spent couplant. As a result, this reduces the number and type of contaminates to which the workpiece is exposed when used when compared to prior art immersion tanks and bubblers.

  • Patent number: 7253376
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for truncating an image formed with coherent radiation. The optical relay system is adapted to form a line image at the image plane. The image is truncated by a variable aperture at or near the aperture plane conjugate to the image plane, to block progressively increasing portions of an incident coherent radiation beam used to form the line image. An apodizing pupil filter having a maximum transmission or reflection in the center and a transmission or reflection profile that varies with direction corresponding to long direction of the line image is provided in the pupil plane. The apodization is designed to prevent hot-spots from forming in the truncated image and ensures a relatively smooth, flat intensity profile. Thus, one end or another of a coherent line image scanned over a substrate can be truncated during scanning without substantially changing the image intensity extending into the product area.

  • Patent number: 7253649
Abstract: An upward facing probing mechanism using mercury probe contacts for accurate automatic multi-site measurements of a semiconductor wafer, especially of ultra-shallow ion implanted layers on a semiconductor wafer held top surface facing downward. A fixed force is applied to the wafer regardless of the thickness of the wafer through the of use of a regulated pressure piston. Incorporated are a plurality of spring-loaded rod assemblies to support the floating probe head to position the probe head face into full contact with the wafer surface accurately placing all mercury contacts on the surface of the wafer regardless of the inclination of the wafer as a result of the even support of the probe head by the spring-loaded rod assemblies. Included is a mechanism to refresh the mercury contacts for each probing with full containment and recovery of the mercury used in each probing.

  • Patent number: 7238915
Abstract: Methods and apparatus (100) for scanning a surface (12) of a substrate (10) with an obliquely incident radiation beam (20) over a select scan path (210) to avoid damage (30) to the curved edge (14) of the substrate. The methods and apparatus allow for the substrate edge to be irradiated with the full intensity of the radiation beam, provided that the edge crossing positions avoid a region where the polar angle is less than a scan path critical (SPC) polar angle (?C). At the SPC polar angle the temperatures produced by scanning the beam on the substrate surface and on the edge are the same. The scan path is arranged so the edge crossing positions are located where the polar angle corresponding to each meets or exceeds the SPC polar angle. Ensuring that the substrate edge temperature (TE) remains at or below the substrate surface temperature (TS). The invention has particular utility in laser thermal processing (LTP) of circular silicon substrates when forming transistor-based integrated circuits.

  • Patent number: 7225895
Abstract: A speaker that is designed to substantially eliminate wobble of the voice coil during operation, and thus remove that source of distortion and early failure of the speaker. This is accomplished with the creation of triangular ring that extends upward from the top edge of the voice coil bobbin with that ring mating with a flat diaphragm at a right angle directly above the top edge of the bobbin. The outer edge of the diaphragm connects to the inner edge of the surround at the point where a sloping side of the “triangle” is also connected and slopes down to the top edge of the bobbin where the opposite end is connected. The outer portion of the diaphragm provides the third side of the triangle.

  • Patent number: 7198076
Abstract: An air pump assembly is disposed within an inflatable article, and includes a movable member. When the movable member is moved relative to a base to an inflating position, an outflow outlet in the base is closed, and an inflow valve is activated to open an inflow outlet in the base so as to permit air to be sucked into the inflatable article through an inflow inlet and the inflow outlet in the base by an air pump. When the movable member is moved to a deflating position, the inflow inlet is closed, and an outflow valve is activated to open an outflow inlet in the base so as to permit air to be forced out of the inflatable article through the outflow inlet and the outflow outlet.

  • Patent number: 7197154
Abstract: Speaker design/method positively centering speaker components one with the other with a unique design of the surround and radiator. Surround has a main body extending radially through more than 180°, extending from the body there is a flat outer ring and a flat inner ring at substantially 180° radially around the body from the outer ring with a portion of the main body extending below the inner ring, forming a channel between the inner ring and the body portion that extends below it. The radiator has outer and inner edges with a central opening defined by the inner edge, with the outer edge either blunt or defined by a short downward extending ring. • Patent number: 7194104
Abstract: A speaker interconnection block with two voice coils to be driven with separate amplifiers, or to use one amplifier to drive the two voice coils in series or parallel without having to reinterconnect the voice coils. This is achieved by locating the negative voice coil terminals next to each other and the positive voice terminals next to each other on the connection block. When two amplifiers are used to drive the voice coils, the sequence of connections of the amplifiers matches those of the voice coils mentioned above. When only one amplifier is used, that amplifier is connected between the two amplifier terminals farthest from each other. To connect the voice coils in series a single jumper is used to interconnect the two terminals in the center, and for parallel connection two jumpers are used to connect to two terminals at the ends of the sequence together separately.

  • Patent number: 7176405
Abstract: A heat shield (10) that facilitates thermally processing a substrate (22) with a radiation beam (150) is disclosed. The heat shield is in the form of a cooled plate adapted to allow the radiation beam to communicate with the substrate upper surface (20) over a radiation beam path (BP), either through an aperture or a transparent region. The heat shield has an operating position that forms a relatively small gap (170) between the lower surface (54) of the heat shield and the upper surface of the wafer. The gap is sized such that the formation of convection cells (200) is suppressed during substrate surface irradiation. If convection cells do form, they are kept out of the radiation beam path. This prevents the radiation beam from wandering from the desired radiation beam path, which in turn allows for uniform heating of the substrate during thermal processing.
