  • Patent number: 5774347
Abstract: Disclosed is a compact power supply unit that prevents an electronic device from being shut down even when due to an in-rush current phenomenon the electronic device requires a supply of power that is extraordinarily greater than that which is needed for normal operation. A CV area where constant voltage feedback control is performed on an output terminal voltage until it reaches a level V.sub.1 is continued until an output current value is I.sub.1. Then, constant current feedback control is performed with the output current I.sub.1 until the output terminal voltage falls to V.sub.2 (<V.sub.1). Further, constant current feedback control is performed with the output current I.sub.2 (<I.sub.1) in the area where the output terminal voltage is lower than V.sub.2 (more specifically, in a battery charging area).

  • Patent number: 5764480
Abstract: Disclosed is a media console of a personal computer system that includes a drive housing that can be moved within a base member between an open position and a closed position. A direct access storage device (e.g., floppy disk drive) is disposed within the drive housing and has an opening for receiving a removable storage medium. The open position is characterized in that the opening in the direct access storage device is accessible to a user while the closed position is characterized in that the opening in the direct access storage device is not accessible to the user. The drive housing pivots on pins which are disposed at opposite ends of a back portion of the drive housing. The pins fit within grooves which are located at each end of the base member. A spring coupled to the base member and the drive housing biases the drive housing toward the open position. • Patent number: 5765001
Abstract: Described is a personal computer system which includes a central processing unit (CPU) and power management circuitry (PMC) in circuit communication with the CPU. A power supply is in circuit communication with the CPU and the PMC and includes circuitry for selectively providing system power to the computer system and auxiliary power to the PMC (1) from an external source or (2) from an internal source. When the system is in a normal operating state and the external source stops providing power at a predetermined level (e.g., brownout or blackout) to the power supply, the power supply is operative to generate a control signal to the PMC and switch to its internal power source. The power management circuitry is characterized in that while in the normal operating state, responsive to the power supply activating the control signal, the PMC causes the computer system to change to the suspend state wherein the entire state of the system is safely saved to a non-volatile storage device.

  • Patent number: 5717426
Abstract: Disclosed is a method which includes displaying a cursor at a predetermined position in a numeric string and editing the numeric string by either one of; (1) inserting a numeral or a symbol at the cursor position, (2) replacing a numeral or symbol at the cursor position or (3) deleting a numeral at the cursor position or deleting a numeral preceding the cursor position. A digit separator is then inserted into the edited numeric string and the resultant numeric string is displayed on a display device. The cursor is then moved to a new position where another editing step is to be performed on a numeral or symbol that is one position to the right of the numeral or symbol that was inserted, replaced or deleted. Another method disclosed includes displaying a cursor for a numeric string alteration operation at a predetermined cursor position in a numeric string that consists of an optional prefix and a numeric portion wherein a digit separator is counted as one character.

  • Patent number: 5675751
Abstract: A computer system having a peripheral bus and a digital signal processor (DSP) local bus interfacing to the peripheral bus via an extended bus interface circuit (EBIC). The DSP local bus is configured such that devices, which are typically two or more DSPs, electrically connected to the DSP local bus may transfer data to other devices connected to the DSP local bus regardless of data transfer activity of the peripheral bus. Moreover, as seen from the peripheral bus, the devices connected to the DSP local bus have the same arbitration level. However, as seen from the DSP local bus, each device connected to the DSP local bus has a unique arbitration level determined by the priority of the tasks executing on the respective devices, as determined by a DSP operating system.
