  • Patent number: 4850839
Abstract: A disclosure relates to an apparatus for extruding and forming blanks from a rubber or polymeric material comprising a pair of hydraulic ram operated extruders having outlets connected to a common delivery conduit. A screw extruder is also connected to the conduit and a control valve controls flow between the respective extruders and conduit such that in one position of the valve one of the ram operated extruders is connected to the conduit outlet delivery of extrudate and the other extruder is connected to the screw extruder to receive a fresh charge of extrudate. A closed hydraulic circuit links the hydraulic rams of the two ram extruders whereby filling of one of the extruders causes that ram to retract and pump the hydraulic fluid therefrom to the other extruder to cause that ram to extend and thereby discharge the extrudate therein and vice versa.

  • Patent number: 4828417
Abstract: A printer housing which can be adapted for both cut sheet printing paper and continuous printing paper without replacing any of its paper guide members with any external paper guide members. The printer housing comprises a first cover which is pivotably supported at its front end and a second cover which is povoted to the first cover at its middle part and can cover an opening in the upper face of the printer housing main body by complementing the first cover. When the second cover is thus covering the upper opening of the printer housing main body in cooperation with the first cover, the printer housing is adapted for continuous printing paper. When the second cover is brought to an oblique position, the second cover can serve as a guide for feeding cut sheet printing paper into the printer. The printer is preferably provided with a tractor feeder which can be thrown backward to be out of way for cut sheet printing paper and to support the second cover at its oblique position.

  • Patent number: 4798488
Abstract: A dot matrix print head in which the mass of the armature is reduced by providing a groove in the armature in the portion where the magnetic flux density is relatively low. The armature may be advantageously attached to a sheet spring by laser welding applied from the bottom surface of the groove without creating craters in the external face of the sheet spring. Reduction in the mass of the armature allows a substantial increase in the print speed of the print head. Use of laser welding reduces the manufacturing cost of the print head and the absence of any craters in the external face of the sheet spring is favorable for the performance of the magnetic circuit of the print head.

  • Patent number: 4795410
Abstract: An emergency belt assembly is provided for temporary replacement of broken fan belts and the like. The assembly comprises a tubular belt made of an elastomeric material, and a connector having a shank with a plurality of barbs on each end portion thereof. The maximum outer transverse dimensions of the barbs on each end portion of the connector decrease from the axially outermost barb to the axially innermost barb, thereby permitting the connector to be easily inserted manually into the tubular ends of the belt. In an alternate embodiment, the connector articulates at a point intermediate its end portions to permit the connector to easily accommodate small radii turns. In yet another embodiment of the present invention, the connector has a plurality of barbs on one end thereof for frictionally engaging the inner surface of a tubular end of a line or belt, and has on its opposite end portion an attachment member, such as an eye, for attaching to a support object, such as a pole, wall, or the like.

  • Patent number: 4640669
Abstract: In a rotary hermetic compressor an improved lubrication arrangement is provided for the sliding cylinder vanes. An oil pump in the lower portion of the crankshaft extends into the oil sump of the compressor. The oil pump comprises an axial aperture in the crankshaft which angles diagonally radially outwardly in the upward direction. Oil is pumped through this aperture into an annulus surrounding the crankshaft. A passageway in the outboard bearing conducts the oil radially outwardly from the annulus and then upwardly against gravity to a vertical oil channel which is open to both sides of the sliding vane and adjacent thereto. The positive pressure provided by the oil pump will ensure that the oil channel is filled with oil at all times. Excess oil exits at the upper end of the vane through a relief in the main bearing and then flows down around the cylinder by gravity and into the oil sump.

  • Patent number: 4639198
Abstract: In a rotary hermetic compressor, a suction tube seal is provided between the cylinder and the suction tube. The suction tube end extends through the housing of the hermetic compressor and is sealingly secured thereto such as by welding. The compressor cylinder, which is located in the housing has an aperture in the cylindrical wall thereof for receiving the end of the suction tube extending into the housing. The inside diameter of the aperture is greater than the outside diameter of the suction tube so that the suction tube is slidably axially received in the aperture. The suction tube is sealed to the cylinder by flexible sealing means which is interposed between the outside of the suction tube and the inside of the aperture. The sealing means is preferably an O ring constructed of oil resistant, flexible rubber material.

  • Patent number: 4637254
Abstract: This invention pertains to gauge apparatus for measuring liquid levels comprising an elongated electrical sensor adapted to be arranged in upright position while immersed so constructed as to have an electrical resistance which may be varied. A spherical float is magnetically attracted to the sensor for rolling movement with respect thereto for varying the resistance in response to variation in elevation of float caused by changes in the level of the liquid. The resistance is measured thereby to provide an indication of such level. The magnetic attraction holds the float and sensor in operative engagement at all times including those during which the float changes height in response to changes in the level of the liquid being measured. The presence of different liquid is also detected in a given vessel, such as gasoline and water, and an indication and alarm of vessel overfill during a filling operation is provided.

  • Patent number: 4633531
Abstract: A mounting system for mounting a face guard on a football helmet, wherein the face guard is able to pivot about a horizontal axis about the top portion of the helmet. The improved mounting arrangement includes a pair of straps in the form of loops which enclose wire segments of the face guard. The straps are mounted to be in tension when the face guard encounters a frontal force. The straps are comprised of a resilient polyurethane material and are dimensioned so that most of the shock force encountered by the face guard due to blows thereon is absorbed by the tension mounted straps. The straps include a tapered end portion and an enlarged neck portion to provide sufficient resiliency yet sufficient rigidity to protect the player and to prevent the face guard from being permanently distorted. The head portions of the straps are dimensioned so that the face guard, in case of an injury to the player, can be pivoted past the head portions about the horizontal axis without distortion of the face guard.
