  • Patent number: 4606305
Abstract: A flywheel assembly for a small internal combustion engine including a permanent magnet structure secured to the flywheel near the outer periphery thereof and for cooperating with the ignition stator to induce spark creating voltages therein. The permanent magnet structure includes two pole shoes and a permanent magnet captured between shoulder portions of the pole shoes. A non-magnetic spacer plate includes two protuberances and is inserted between the flywheel and the magnet group consisting of the pole shoes and the permanent magnet. The protuberances cooperate with outer peripheral surfaces of the pole shoes. The magnet group is held accurately and rigidly in position by axially compressing a pair of rivets which pass through the flywheel, the plate and the magnet group, whereby the rivets are radially expanded to tightly fill the respective apertures through which they pass. The protuberances on the plate prevent the pole shoes from pivoting when the pole shoe outer surfaces are machined.

  • Patent number: 4601267
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine a breather induced valve lifter mechanism lubricating system wherein oil mist is conducted from the crankcase through one push rod tube to the rocker box. The oil mist is caused to flow around the valve actuating mechanism by a baffle before flowing out of the rocker box through a second push rod tube to the breather chamber. Oil which condenses in the rocker box flows through the second push rod tube to the breather chamber. Oil which collects in the breather chamber will be caused to flow through a drainage passage from the breather chamber to the oil sump in the crankcase.

  • Patent number: 4576555
Abstract: An oil dispersing device in a compresser having a crankshaft with an axial bore therein. An oil pumping device pumps oil upwardly through the axial bore and outwardly through a radial passage communicating with the bore. A cage bearing located in an upper portion of the compressor housing and journalling the crankshaft has a counterbore formed therein which is coaxial with and surrounds the crankshaft and forms an annulus with the outer surface of the crankshaft. Oil passing outwardly through the radial passage pools in the annulus and deflects additional oil exiting from the passage thereby deflecting oil upwardly onto the upper housing wall whereby the oil is cooled by the compressor housing.

  • Patent number: 4568975
Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring the Gray Scale characteristics of a CRT display wherein a luminance meter surveys a ten percent portion of the total surface area of the screen of the CRT display screen. The luminance meter is positioned far enough from the screen so that the cone surveyed by the luminance meter will intersect the plane of the screen to cause ten percent of the screen surface area to be surveyed. A special test pattern is generated for display on the CRT screen whereby a surveyed area is provided having a sufficiently large surface area and being of uniform brightness. The test pattern also provides for an additional screen area equal in size to the surveyed area. The average picture level for the surveyed area and the non-surveyed area is maintained at fifty percent of peak picture level while the brightness of the surveyed area is varied in incremental steps through the Gray Scale.

  • Patent number: 4568253
Abstract: A horizontal shaft oil pump is provided for use in a compressor comprising an outer housing having an inlet, an outlet, an oil sump, and a crankcase mounted therein. The crankcase has a generally vertically disposed passageway therein in communication with the oil sump, and a crankshaft is horizontally rotatably received in a bore in the crankcase. A reduced diameter portion of the crankshaft forms between the crankshaft and crankcase an annular chamber in communication with the passageway, and a pair of oppositely angularly disposed helical grooves are disposed in the crankshaft on opposite sides of and in communication with the annular chamber. Upon rotation of the crankshaft, a low pressure area is developed in the annular chamber causing lubricant to be drawn upwardly through the crankcase passageway and into the annular chamber. The rotating helical grooves deliver lubricant from the annular chamber to opposite end portions of the crankshaft for lubricating bearings and other moving parts.

  • Patent number: 4566180
Abstract: A coil placing machine having an improved operating sequence for positioning prewound coils and coil separating insulators in certain core slots is disclosed. A portion of each insulator is supported obliquely to the core axis and then both insulators and coils are moved toward the core, coil movement is interrupted while the insulators continue to move into their ultimate position within the core and thereafter coil movement is resumed to complete the coil and insulator placing operation. In the preferred aparatus a conventional coil stripper and insulation inserting gauge and blade alignment tool are separately actuated to pass into the core so that the axial separation between the stripper and tool is at first constant and then increases and finally decreases as the coil and insulator insertion progresses.

  • Patent number: 4559686
Abstract: The invention relates to a small, efficient hermetic compressor for refrigeration wherein reduction in size and minimization of parts is emphasized. The motor compressor unit is mounted within a sealed outer housing and comprises a cast crankcase, which is connected to the stator of the electrical motor by means of only three connecting screws that extend through the stator and are threadedly received in sockets in the downwardly depending legs of the crankcase. The crankshaft is pressed into the motor rotor and is journaled within the crankcase for rotation about a vertical axis. The crankcase includes a slot extending into the cylinder so that the connecting rod can be inserted laterally into the cylinder at the same time that it is slipped over the end of the crankshaft, and the wrist pin is then inserted through the same slot, through the piston and connecting rod, and is held in place by a spring clip.
