  • Patent number: 5829175
Abstract: A steam iron with a valve between the water reservoir and the soleplate. The valve has a valve stem that is connected to the temperature control. The valve stem is axially rotated when the temperature control is moved without longitudinally moving the valve stem. The valve stem has a groove of varying depth located between an inlet and an outlet of the valve member to vary the flow of water through the valve based upon the rotational position of the valve stem relative to the valve member. A user actuated mechanism is also provided to longitudinally move the valve stem among closed, variable, and non-variable open flow positions.

  • Patent number: 5799420
Abstract: A steam iron having a water tank with an internal air trap and external gear mounts. The air trap holds a volume of air when the iron is being filled with water, but receives water when the iron is moved to a horizontal position to prevent water from spilling out of a water fill spout. The iron has gears that connect a temperature control of the iron to a water metering valve. The gears are stabily rotatably mounted directed to the water tank on the gear mounts.

  • Patent number: 5768808
Abstract: A steam iron having a soleplate, a housing, an electric cord extending into the housing through a bushing pivotably mounted to the housing, and a retaining member mounted to the housing. The retaining member has a first section with a snap-off rib that forms a strain relief with the housing for the electric cord. The retaining member also has a second section with a curved portion that forms part of the pivotable connection of the electric cord bushing to the housing. A third section of the retaining member is a cantilevered arm that holds an electronic module against the housing.

  • Patent number: 5765938
Abstract: A flashlight includes a flexible core comprising a pair of conductive wires which electrically connect a source of power to a power using implement. A flexible spine surrounds the pair of conductive wires and includes a plurality of interconnected universally rotatable members. A resilient sleeve engages the outer surface of the rotatable members forming the spine. The flashlight includes a working end housing and a base housing. A first anchor connects one end of the flexible core to the base end housing and a second anchor connects the other end of the flexible core to the working end housing. The outer surface of the resilient sleeve is restrained against relative twisting or longitudinal movement with respect to each housing.

  • Patent number: 5734312
Abstract: An overtemperature protection assembly with a mount, a solder terminal and a bridging connector. The mount is a block of ceramic material with a slot extending therethrough. The solder terminal has an end that is located in the slot and forms a frictional connection therein. The bridging connector has a busing terminal and a spring contact. The busing terminal has an end that is located in the slot. The spring contact has a first end connected to the busing terminal and a second end that is deflected towards the solder terminal and soldered thereto. If the solder connecting the second end of the spring contact to the solder terminal melts from excessive heat, the spring contact deflects away from the solder terminal thereby breaking electrical connection between the solder terminal and the busing terminal.
