Abstract: A steam iron having a soleplate, a housing, an electric cord extending into the housing through a bushing pivotably mounted to the housing, and a retaining member mounted to the housing. The retaining member has a first section with a snap-off rib that forms a strain relief with the housing for the electric cord. The retaining member also has a second section with a curved portion that forms part of the pivotable connection of the electric cord bushing to the housing. A third section of the retaining member is a cantilevered arm that holds an electronic module against the housing.
Abstract: An electric kettle having a housing, a heating element, and a filter system. The filter system has a connecting frame and a filter member. The connecting frame is stationarily connected to the housing and forms a vent conduit with the housing. The filter member is removably received in the connecting frame and has a top located at an exterior of the housing. A user can remove the filter member by moving the top of the filter member without having to move other components of the kettle.

Abstract: In a toaster, a system is constructed to vary the duration of the toasting cycle. An RC network provides an oscillating signal to a counter, which upon the required number of oscillations being counted, triggers a transistor switch. The switch energizes the main solenoid switch which in turn deactivates the heating elements of the toaster. The RC network of the system comprises a variable resistor which may be manually operated, a heat sensitive resistor, and a light sensitive resistor.
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner having a floor traveling head with wheels and an elongate handle pivotably connected to the head. The head has two motors; one connected to an impeller and one connected to a rotatable brush. The head has rechargeable batteries therein for supplying electricity to the motors and a three position electrical switch. All working components of the vacuum cleaner, including an air filter and dust/dirt collection cup, are in the floor traveling head. The handle has no working components thereon.

Abstract: A can opener having a housing, a cutting blade, a can moving system, and a lid retainer. The cutting blade is movably connected to the housing between a cutting position and a retracted position. The lid retainer is pivotably connected to the housing between a recessed position in a recess of the housing and an extended position. The cutting blade is located in front of the recess when it is in its retracted position to keep the lid retainer in the recess. However, when the cutting blade is moved to its cutting position, the cutting blade is moved out of the path of the recess to allow the lid retainer to move from its recessed position to its extended position. The cutting blade can also push the lid retainer back to its recessed position when the cutting blade is moved back to its retracted position.
Abstract: A vacuum cleaner with a removable collection module. The module has a combined collection assembly and filter element. The collection assembly has a one-piece frame and a cover attached to an open rear end of the frame. The filter element is permanently attached to the cover on an interior side. The cover has ribs that space the filter element from a rear side of the cover and form an air flow space between the filter element and the cover. The cover is mounted on a flange of the frame with a frictional airtight connection.
