Abstract: A composition is provided for suppressing formation of fat in animals comprising a blend of animal feed and polyterpenes of formula (C.sub.10 H.sub.16).sub.n, where n is an integer from 2 to 4. The polyterpenes may be generated in situ by the reaction of citrus essential oils with pharmaceutically acceptable acid or by direct synthesis. A method for suppressing body fat in both animals and humans is also disclosed comprising feeding or ingesting, respectively, polyterpenes prepared either by direct polymerization of neat terpenes or by the aforementioned in situ reaction.

Abstract: A confectionery guessing game is provided comprising one or more edible confectionery pieces containing a flavorant material such as a flavoring agent, liquor, fruit or nut. The confectionery is held in a package and a code identifying the flavor material is attached to or contained within the package. A removable obscuring layer such as a peelable strip covers the code from view. A game participant tastes the confectionery and tries to guess the flavor material contained therein. Confirmation of that guess may be had by removing the obscuring layer from the identifying code.

Abstract: A container toothbrush for holding liquid toothpaste is provided and consists of a replaceable container having a threaded end portion, a toothbrush having a plurality of projecting bristles, a threaded counter bore that is removably attaches the toothbrush to the threaded end portion of the replaceable container, and a device for dispensing the liquid toothpaste from the container onto the bristles of the toothbrush just prior to brushing teeth.

Abstract: A portable organizer case for jewelry or cosmetics is disclosed comprising a semi-circular dome shaped lid hinged to a receptacle. Within said receptacle is stored a pair of unattached, removeable trays, each fitted with a mounting bracket. When the case is opened, the trays may be removed from the receptacle and may be mounted outwardly astride the end walls of the receptacle to form a dressing table. Within the hollow of the lid is mounted a mirror pivotably rotateable. Lower and upper rails are molded onto the receptacle and lid. When the case is closed, upper and lower rails nest allowing a pair of catches to sealably slide over both rails.

Abstract: A solenoid valve includes a diaphragm assembly which isolates the fluid being controlled by the valve from the solenoid cell and the armature. The diaphragm assembly includes integrally formed poppet members and sealing rings which prevent misalignment of component parts. Force is applied by the armature on the diaphragm via a force ball which provides a central force and eliminates misalignment. In an alternative embodiment the force ball is eliminated and the diaphragm assembly is connected directly to the armature.

Abstract: An electrical security apparatus includes an enclosure in which there is mounted an electrical receptacle which may be connected to a source of electrical power via its own power cord and plug. The enclosure is proportioned to receive the end of the power cord and the power plug of independently operated electrical device by plugging it into the electrical receptacle which makes direct connection to the power source provided in the apparatus through its power cord and plug. A keylock, operated by a removable key, is provided on the exterior of the enclosure. In the first position, the keylock, operated by a removable key, allows the top panel of the enclosure to be opened and closed. In the second position, the keylock locks the top panel and prevents removal of the power plug of the independently operated electrical device therefrom. In the third position, the keylock operates a switch to allow current to flow from the power source to the independently operated electrical device.

Abstract: A lock mechanism includes a lock case and a sliding bolt which is operated by a pair of link members which are mounted within the lock case. The sliding bolt has a hollow portion and carries a pair of pivotally mounted dead latches. When the sliding bolt is fully extended from the lock case, the dead latches swing out to engage a door jamb. When the sliding bolt is retracted into the lock case, the dead latches pivot into the hollow portion of the sliding bolt.

Abstract: An electrical control system for controlling one or more electrical devices includes a local control station and one or more remote control stations, each station including a transmitter and a receiver, the various stations being interconnected by optical fibers for transmission of information between the stations. The local control station continuously encodes the status of the controlled electrical devices, and optically transmits this information to the various remote stations. Also, the receiver of each remote station is provided with means for determining when a fault in the local to remote station link occurs and determines whether it is receiving valid control information from the local station. An alarm signal is produced when the remote station receiver fails to receive control signal information.

Abstract: An apparatus for the measurement of the quality parameters of granular materials includes a loader assembly which delivers precise volume samples of granular material to a meter assembly which measures the moisture content. The apparatus also includes a sieve assembly which separates the samples into fractions according to kernel size. A scale assembly weighs the fractions and feeds this information to a computer which controls the apparatus and calculates the moisture content, density and percentage of foreign material contained in the granular material.

Abstract: A window apparatus includes a jamb assembly and a pair of window frame assemblies which are capable of sliding relative to the jamb assembly for the purpose of opening and closing and also tilting inwardly to facilitate cleaning. Locking members are provided on the upper corners of each of the window frames. The locking members are lodged in slots formed in the window frames and project beyond the window frames to engage the jamb assembly and prevent tilting of the window frames. The locking members have a relatively low level of stress when the window apparatus is subjected to wind loads, thereby enabling the window apparatus to withstand relatively high wind loads encountered on the upper floors of large buildings.

Abstract: A device for relieving skin itch includes a flexible mesh sheet having a pair of spaced bare electrical wires interleaved within the sheet. An electrically non-conductive cover sheet is applied to one side of the mesh sheet while portions of the electrode wires are exposed on the other side of mesh sheet for contact application to the skin to relieve itching when a voltage is applied to the terminal ends of the electrode wires. The mesh sheet may be stored in a roll and cut to any desired length appropriate to the skin area to be treated.

Abstract: A pinch valve assembly includes a valve body in which a plunger is spring loaded against a portion of a flexible tube which passes through the valve body. The plunger causes the flexible tube to collapse preventing flow through the tube. Energization of a solenoid which is mounted on the valve body causes the plunger to release the tube, permitting flow. In an alternative embodiment, energization of the solenoid causes the plunger to bear on the flexible tube thereby providing a normally open valve arrangement.In another alternative embodiment the plunger bears on a plurality of flexible tubes thereby facilitating simultaneous control of different fluids.

Abstract: A motor boat hull is provided with a longitudinal channel formed in the central portion of the underside surface, starting at an intermediate location and terminating at the stern. Exhaust gases from the propulsion engine are introduced into the forward portion of the channel and the gases flow toward the stern thereby reducing the contact of the hull with the water and reducing the hull-to-water friction levels and reducing the power required to propel the hull at a given speed.

Abstract: A dental tool for reducing tooth structure includes a shaft adaptable to be carried by rotating means at one end thereof and a shank extending axially from the other end of the shaft. In one group of embodiments thereof, the shank has a plurality of non-intersecting grooves forming a plurality of reducing elements spaced along the length of the shank. Each of the grooves in axial cross-section of the shank has a rounded bottom wall while the reducing elements may have one of various configurations. In another group of embodiments thereof, the shank is helically grooved to define a reducing element with the crest thereof centered on the shank axis.

Abstract: An intermeshing passage manifold is a device for subdividing each of two passages of ducts connected to it into multiple adjacent separate intermeshed passages. The intermeshing passage manifold is to be used for heat exchangers and fluid mixing devices in order to minimize pressure (energy) losses and to satisfy geometric constraints in many applications. The intermeshing passage manifold consists of a number of manifold sections adjacent in an end-to-end manner. Each of the manifold sections consists of a number of passage modules adjacent in a side-by-side manner. Each passage module consists of two passages; the orientation of these passages at one end of a module is at right angles to the orientation of the passages at the other end of the module, however, the cross-section shape of the module remains the same throughout its length.

Abstract: A key rotatably supported in a mounting and capable of being brought into engagement with a lock is held in the correct orientation for engaging the lock by being locked to the mounting by a retractable sleeve. Only when the mounting is brought into engagement with the lock does a portion of the lock engage the sleeve and push it back relative to the mounting to free the key for rotation. The mounting may be on a moveable part of a machine guard with the lock on a fixed part and controlling operation of the machine.

Abstract: A micro-switch has an auxiliary return spring in the form of a hairpin spring acting directly on the actuating button through a hole in the contact carrier to increase the return force on whatever external means engage the button, but without affecting the behavior of the contact carrier. The use of a hairpin spring allows it to be accommodated within an existing standard switch body without upsetting the placing of standard mounting holes.

Abstract: A snap-action micro-switch of a known general kind has an auxiliary spring that acts on the actuating member in the operating direction but has a force characteristic that falls with displacemet away from the rest position. The effect of this is to reduce the required externally applied actuating force but without reducing the contact pressure applied by the normal snap-action spring.
