  • Patent number: 5779004
Abstract: A lubricating mechanism for a piston type compressor in a refrigeration system. A cam plate is mounted on a drive shaft for integral rotation therewith in a crank chamber, which is defined in a casing. Pistons are coupled to the cam plate and reciprocate in cylinder bores extending parallel to the drive shaft. Each piston compresses refrigerant gas containing lubricating oil mist and discharges the compressed refrigerant gas from the compressor during rotation of the cam plate. The refrigerant gas is supplied into the crank chamber and is circulated in the casing. The lubricating oil is supplied to various moving parts from a location near the drive shaft. An oil pan is provided outside and to the side of the casing for collecting lubricating oil. A recovering passage connects the oil pan with the crank chamber to convey the lubricating oil from the crank chamber to the oil pan for collection.

  • Patent number: 5777240
Abstract: A load cell is disclosed having a top plate and a base plate, the top plate adapted for receiving a pillow block mounting and shaft bearing thereon and the base plate adapted to be fixedly secured to a machine frame or other fixed structure. A deformable spring member is secured to both plates, which upon deforming tilts the top plate. A pair of gauged beams are disposed substantially parallel to the longitudinal axes of the plates and substantially orthogonal to the direction of an applied force. The gauged beams are secured at one end to a support member and at the other to a collar member. A load transfer rod secured at one end to the support member extends through the collar member to a link member secured to the top plate. Upon tilting of the top plate, the load transfer rod and the gauged beams deflect, causing strain gauges on the gauged beams to generate electrical voltage signals proportional to the applied force.

  • Patent number: 5777766
Abstract: The device and method are based on tapping off a predetermined line signal fraction and inputting it, together with a continuous pumping radiation, to a resonant cavity which comprises a non-linear wave guide. The value of the pumping wavelength is related to the wavelength of the line signal pulses to produce therewith a four-wave mixing (FWM) effect in the non-linear wave guide. In travelling the non-linear wave guide, a clone signal is generated by FWM effect which duplicates the pulse sequence of the line signal at a clone wavelength. By adjusting the length of the resonant cavity such that, in inputting the line signal, each of its pulses will come in at exactly a pulse of the clone signal which is being circulated within the cavity, a clone signal can be circulated within the resonant cavity whose pulse sequence represents the optical clock signal sought.

  • Patent number: 5772821
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for production of a three-dimensional fabric including laminated fiber layers having a fiber arranged along axial lines and a connection yarn inserted into the fiber layers to connect the fiber layers with each other are described. The fiber layers are formed by arranging the fiber while folding the fiber back along the axial lines. • Patent number: 5771775
Abstract: A compressor has a front housing, cylinder block and a rear housing. The housings and cylinder block are secured to one another by a plurality of bolts. A plurality of pistons reciprocally move in cylinder bores to compress gas. Each of said bolts has a shaft extending through the housings and the cylinder block. A cam plate is supported on a drive shaft for integral rotation therewith to convert the rotation of the drive shaft to reciprocal movement of a piston in the cylinder bore. The piston rotates about its axis in accordance with rotation force transmitted from the cam plate and abuts against the shaft of the bolt, which extends in close proximity to the piston. The rotating piston abuts against the shaft so that the rotation thereof is restricted. The shaft has a diameter greater than that of a threaded portion formed at an end of the bolt. Since the threaded portion is smaller, the threaded portion does no damage to the piston during assembly.

  • Patent number: 5770334
Abstract: A nickel-hydrogen battery is designed to have, in its battery container, electrode plates welded and connected onto a lead conductor. With the configuration, the edge of the end portion of the lead conductor welded onto the electrode plate can be formed as a combination of concave and convex portions. The stresses on the electrode plate and lead conductor are concentrated on the edge of the end portion onto which the electrode plate and lead conductor are welded and where a crack may arise. However, shaping into waveform the edge of the end portion where the lead conductor is welded onto the electrode plate makes the edge of the end portion long enough to reduce the concentration of the stresses. Furthermore, even if the crack may have arisen, the development of the crack can be reduced by making the crack development direction different from the direction of the edge of the lead conductor because the edge of the end portion of the lead conductor is shaped into waveform.

  • Patent number: 5765996
Abstract: A compressor has a plurality of cylinder bores defined around a rotary shaft in a cylinder block and a plurality of double-headed pistons accommodated in the respective cylinder bores. The pistons compress refrigerant gas in a plurality of front and rear compression chambers defined in the bores in the front and rear of the respective pistons according to the rotation of a cam plate mounted on the rotary shaft. The compressor has bearing that receive thrust loads applied to the rotary shaft during operation of the compressor. The pistons create a net thrust load determined by the difference between the maximum of the sum of loads applied to the front sides of the pistons by the refrigerant gas in the front compression chambers and the maximum of the sum of loads applied to the rear sides of the pistons by the refrigerant gas in the rear compression chambers. The pistons transfer the net thrust load to the rotary shaft in a predetermined direction.

  • Patent number: 5760582
Abstract: Gradient coil assemblies and shim coil assemblies are disclosed for magnetic resonance imaging ("MRI") devices, wherein the coil assemblies comprise a coil support and a conductive wire having a locus described by a solution of a current continuity equation over a finite interval for which certain terms of the magnetic field expansion are equal to zero, for generating non-uniform magnetic fields. The gradient coil produces gradient fields and magnetic fields which cancel non-uniformities in the magnetic field of the magnet of the MRI device. Shim coils cancel such non-uniformities, as well.
