Patent number: 8140169Abstract: An induction heating apparatus includes a first interventional device and a second interventional device. The first interventional device includes an electrically conductive material. The first interventional device is adapted for implantation inside a body and for receiving an alternating current. The second interventional device comprises a magnetically conductive material. The second interventional device is adapted for implantation inside the body in close proximity to the first interventional device. With both devices placed inside the body, the second interventional device magnetically couples with the first interventional device and the second interventional device generates heat upon the application of the alternating current to the first interventional device thereby heating the body site.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2005Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Boston Scientific Scimed, Inc.Inventors: Barry N. Patent number: 8123705Abstract: An adjustable profile probe for insertion in a body cavity to sense a biological parameter includes an elongated shaft having a sensor panel and a resiliently expandable portion substantially opposing the sensor panel. An expansion mechanism is at least partially housed within the elongated shaft for varying the profile of the probe. The expansion mechanism includes a base plate adjacent to the resiliently expandable portion and a plurality of lever arms pivotally mounted to the base plate and the sensor panel. An actuating member pivotally connects to the lever arms such that upon movement of the actuating member, the resiliently expandable portion is selectively collapsed or expanded by the plurality of lever arms pivoting between a minimal profile position near parallel with the elongated shaft and an expanded profile position with the lever arms being near perpendicular to the elongated shaft.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 2005Date of Patent: February 28, 2012Assignee: Boston Scientific Scimed, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth P. Patent number: 8115488Abstract: A method and apparatus for tuning and matching extremely small sample coils with very low inductance for use in magnetic resonance experiments conducted at low frequencies. A circuit is disclosed that is appropriate for performing measurements in fields where magnetic resonance is beneficially utilized. The circuit has a microcoil, an adjustable tuning capacitance, and added inductance in the form of a tuning inductor. The microcoil is an electrical coil having an inductance of about 25 nanohenries (nH) or less. Because additional inductance is purposefully added, the capacitance required for resonance and apparatus function is proportionally and helpfully reduced. The apparatus and method permit the resonant circuit and the magnet to be made extremely small, which is crucial for new applications in portable magnetic resonance imaging, for example.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2010Date of Patent: February 14, 2012Assignee: ABQMR, Inc.Inventor: Andrew Frederick McDowell

Patent number: 8079919Abstract: A golf club head having an undercut is disclosed. The club head includes a body defining a striking face, a top line, a sole, a back, a heel, and a toe. The back contains a cavity that extends in a direction substantially perpendicular to the face. A recess is provided within the cavity, with the recess extending away from the cavity and toward the sole. The recess causes more of the club head mass to be oriented towards the perimeter of the club head, and optionally also toward the back of the club head. This enlarges the club sweet spot and increases the moment of inertia, and facilitates imparting a desired flight path to a struck golf ball, producing a more forgiving club. The recess may have a varying depth and/or a varying draft angle. A rear wall of the recess may be provided with a cutout to further reposition mass toward the club head perimeter. An insert, such as a vibration dampening member, may be provided within the recess.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2010Date of Patent: December 20, 2011Assignee: Cobra Golf IncorporatedInventors: Ryan L.
