Abstract: A biocompatible form and a method for fabricating the implant are provided. The biocompatible form may be used to support bone graft material such as that used to reconstruct missing bone in a patient's oral cavity. The implant is fabricated from a biocompatible mesh, which may be made of titanium, a titanium alloy or fiber and is permanently implantable in the patient's oral cavity. The biocompatible form has an anatomical configuration which includes one or more portions conforming substantially to various alveolar bone contours which may include predetermined, human interproximal bone contours, root prominence bone contours and mylohyoid ridge bone contours. The biocompatible form may include a palatal section. The biocompatible form may also include one or more apertures for receiving a corresponding number of dental prostheses therethrough.
Abstract: The present invention discloses novel antibiotic peptides, including naturally occurring peptides. The present invention also includes the nucleic acid sequences encoding such peptides and the corresponding amino acid sequences. Methods of identifying, making, and using the antibiotic peptides are also disclosed. The present invention further provides novel proteins involved in the regulation of bacterial autolysis.
Abstract: The present invention provides an exterior window shutter that is made of PVC, has functional louvers, but is still hurricane resistant. The shutter includes a perimeter framework that is adapted to receive a transparent impact resistant member. This impact resistant member is permanently affixed to the perimeter framework to increase structural stability. Additionally, this invention provides a method to make a high strength and structurally stable hurricane resistant louvered shutter.
Abstract: A portable power unit having an internal combustion engine, a tank for holding a supply of pressurized fluid, an electrical generator powered by the internal combustion engine, and a pump selectively powered by the internal combustion engine. An electro-magnetic clutch is energized by a pressure switch on the tank when the pressure in the tank falls below a predetermined value, and a cooling fan for the pump may also be energized by the pressure switch together with the clutch. A non-slip positive drive belt couples power from the engine to the generator. The generator is overdriven at a shaft rotation speed above that of the engine's shaft, and the pump is underdriven at a shaft rotation speed below that of the engine's shaft.
Abstract: The present invention relates to solid panel window shutters having both high strength and structural stability. More particularly, an exterior window shutter made of a solid panel of polyvinyl chloride with at least one support member affixed in the panel. The shutter includes a solid panel having front and back surfaces and side edges, support member, impact resistant member and slats having a channel to receive the support member; wherein the support member is embedded between the panel and the slats. Also contemplated by this invention are: a method to manufacture high strength and structurally stable exterior window shutters and a method to protect windows from extreme weather.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the mixing of asphalt aggregate with rejuvenating materials in an asphalt rejuvenating machine. According to the method, milled aggregate is discharged in a windrow of fixed width, and windrow height is compared to rejuvenating machine speed to determine a volume rate of material being processed. A processor controller calculates a required amount of rejuvenating fluid addition based on the volume rate being processed and a desired proportion of rejuvenating fluid to aggregate. The processor controller controls a sprayer which directs rejuvenating fluid at some point along a zone extending from a milling apparatus to a mixer.
Abstract: A blending apparatus which forms part of an asphalt pavement resurfacing machine has first and second stages. The first stage receives milled material through an inlet and blends the milled material with a rejuvenating fluid. The first stage has a transversely extending shaft from which paddles extend radially to blend the milled material with the rejuvenating fluid and direct it toward a first stage outlet. The second stage receives the blended material from the first stage outlet. The second stage has a respective shaft with mixing paddles extending radially therefrom to further blend the material and direct it toward a second stage outlet.

The interchangeable upholstery cover for the sofa or chair, having an inner and outer surface. The inner surface having a first area shaped substantially like a seat and a second area with flaps projecting downwardly from the seat area, the inner surface having an attachment means on the seat area and on the flaps, and the outer surface being shaped substantially like an upholstered chair or sofa, the outer surface having a plurality of attachment means located at the bottom edge of the cover. A method of manufacture to make a modular upholstered frame and cover is provided.
Abstract: A raking device for breaking up a surface has a plurality of rakes mounted on a rake frame and arranged to produce an upwardly directed result in force in response to a horizontally directed force arising from encountering an obstruction in a path of travel of the raking device. A rake frame support mounts the rack frame to a rake frame carrier structure and allows controlled movement of the rakes in a vertical direction. A force applicator acting between the rake from carrier and the rake frame support is provided to apply at least a downward force to the rake. The force applicator is responsive to an increase in the upwardly directed result in force above a preset amount to allow the rakes to move upwardly in response to the increase in force.
Abstract: A coating tool is provided which is adapted to transfer a paste or a correcting paint from a transfer tape to a target object. The coating tool comprises a main body housing therein a supply reel and a supply reel gear, supported by a first shaft, and a take-up reel and a take-up reel gear, supported by a second shaft. According to one embodiment of the present invention the coating tool includes an annular rib formed on the cylindrical portion of the supply reel gear and an elastic edging strip, for holding and engaging the supply reel gear, formed on the inner wall surface of the engagement hole of the supply reel and positioned between the annular rib and the supply reel gear. Accordingly, the delivery and taking-up of the transfer tape can be performed smoothly and securely without the thermal deformation of the elastic edging strip.
Abstract: A pen point for a marking pen having a pen tip which includes a base portion formed by bundling polyester-type synthetic fibers having a fiber diameter of denier between about 1 and about 10, dipping the bundle in a synthetic resin adhesive and drying and solidifying the bundle. The resulting bundle is molded into a knife cut shape and integrally coated, together with the base portion, with a coating member formed of a thermoplastic synthetic resin, the thickness of said coating member being between about 0.01 and about 2.00 mm. In the present invention, the tip of the pen point for the marking pen is coated with a coating member formed of a thermoplastic synthetic resin such as polyethylene, polypropylene, polyacetal or vinyl chloride, whereby the side surfaces in which the ink in the pen point is soaked are not exposed.
Abstract: A multicombination vehicle and method are provided for transporting a payload, such as a mined metal ore, over the roadways existing in an underground mine. The multicombination vehicle includes a powered towing unit, which may comprise a rigid body truck, and at least one towed unit mechanically coupled to the rigid body truck. The vehicle may also include a plurality of the towed units, with a forward most one of the units coupled to the rigid body truck and each adjacent pair of the towed units being coupled to one another. Each of the units includes a chassis, a plurality of wheeled axles connected to the chassis for supporting the respective unit as the vehicle travels over the roadways of the mine, and a draw frame attached to and extending rearwardly from the corresponding chassis, with a coupling attached to a rear end of the draw frame.
Abstract: A system and method are provided for framing at least a portion of a wide variety of structures. In each embodiment, the framing system includes a base, which may be attached to a foundation of the structure by conventional means, which preferably comprises at least one rectangular or square metal tube. Alternatively, the base may be made of other metal structures. The framing system further includes a plurality of lower connecting members attached to and extending upwardly from the base and a plurality of upwardly extending support members which are interconnected to the lower connecting members. The framing system may further include an upper member and a plurality of upper connecting members attached to and extending downwardly from the upper member. Each of the support members is also interconnected to one of the upper connecting members, which is aligned with one of the lower connecting members.
