  • Patent number: 8227027
Abstract: A method of cleaning and coating at least one surface of a container for storing a medicament or other ingestible non-pharmaceutical product, the method comprising the steps of using a water-based cleaning composition in conjunction with a water-based crosslinked acrylic resin containing coating material. The process makes the cleaning and coating technology consistent with present environmental regulations and workplace safety requirements, including control of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Further, the concentration of extractible organic compounds has been reduced to the lowest practical level. The process is also applicable to other substrates where it is desired to have low-extractable organics and high adhesion of the subsequently applied coating.

  • Patent number: 8196510
Abstract: A method for producing a flexographic plate that includes a base layer and a layer of a photosensitive material fixed on the base layer. An image is produced on the photosensitive layer by selective reticulation. Areas to be reticulated are exposed to amplitude-modulated laser light with a wavelength ranging from 390 to 410 nm, which scans the surface of the photosensitive layer. The non-reticulated areas are then removed.

  • Patent number: 8196906
Abstract: A fluid aerator (1) comprising a fluid vessel (2) and a pipe (4) extending from the interior of the fluid vessel (2) to the exterior. The pipe (4) has inlet means for permitting liquid to flow into the pipe (4) from the vessel (2) and is closed at its lowermost end but has one or more outlet holes (8) arranged in the wall of the pipe where the fluid exists from the pipe (4). The pipe (4) is movable relative to the vessel (2) between a first position in which the outlet holes (8) are distant from the vessel and a second position in which the outlet holes (8) are closer to the vessel. By means of the movable fluid supply pipe (4) the same fluid aerator can be used both in relation to delivering aerated fluid into a large bottle and to delivering smaller amounts of aerated fluid to a smaller container, such as a wine glass.

  • Patent number: 8196135
Abstract: A method of recording changes to a markup language file which employs application-defined tags. The changes are recorded in a delta file which is also a markup language file providing validation of the recorded changes against substantially the same markup language structure as that of the markup language file being changed. Where the original markup language file is an XML file with a DTD, a DTD can be created for the delta file which substantially follows the DTD of the original markup language file. Strict compliance of the data recorded in the delta file with the delta DTD provides validation of the changes with respect to the original XML file.

  • Patent number: 8177956
Abstract: A method of extending the lifetime of an electroless nickel plating bath by avoiding the addition of unwanted anions to the process and of improving the pH stability of the bath and minimizing additions of pH correcting additives. The method includes the steps of (a) depositing electroless nickel from an electroless nickel plating bath onto a substrate, wherein the electroless nickel plating bath preferably contains a source of nickel ions and a source of hypophosphite ions; (2) immersing a nickel anode in the plating bath; (3) completing the circuit by utilizing a cathode separated from the nickel bath by an ion exchange membrane and using a catholyte comprising an acid or a salt thereof; and (4) passing a current through the bath. Nickel is dissolved into the plating bath to maintain the nickel concentration and hydrogen is discharged from the cathode.

  • Patent number: 8172185
Abstract: In order to establish laminar flow on the attachment line (18) of an aerofoil body, a duct entrance (27) is provided on the leading edge of the aerofoil body for receiving spanwise boundary layer flow BLt. The exit (23) of the duct is located spanwise downstream of the duct entrance (27). The boundary layer flow BLt enters the duct (23) and is discharged downstream. The height of the duct entrance (27) above the leading edge of the aerofoil body is greater than the depth of the boundary layer BLt and thus a fresh laminar boundary layer is established on the outer surface (20) of the duct which propagates spanwise along the surface to rejoin the leading edge of the aerofoil body.

  • Patent number: 8169169
Abstract: A door operator for controlling operation of a door, the door operator having a motor to open the door against a spring force, the door operator further comprising a door position sensor for transmitting a signal indicative of door position; and among other things, calculates a door moment of inertia based on a net torque and the time for the door to reach a predetermined angle from the closed position. Also provided is a door operator that compares door speed to a desired door speed based on a door speed-position profile and generates a door speed error signal and minimizes the door speed error signal by adjusting the braking load resulting from charging a chargeable battery using the motor as a generator.

  • Patent number: 8158331
Abstract: A method of making a relief image printing element from a photosensitive printing blank is provided. A photosensitive printing blank with a laser ablatable layer disposed on at least one photocurable layer is ablated with a laser to create an in situ mask. The printing blank is then exposed to at least one source of actinic radiation through the in situ mask to selectively cross link and cure portions of the photocurable layer. Diffusion of air into the at least one photocurable layer is limited during the exposing step and preferably at least one of the type, power and incident angle of illumination of the at least one source of actinic radiation is altered during the exposure step. The resulting relief image comprises a plurality of dots and a dot shape of the plurality of dots is produced that is highly resistant to print fluting for printing on corrugated board.
