  • Patent number: 7193802
Abstract: An apparatus for providing dynamic equalizer optimization is disclosed. The present invention solves the above-described problems by providing equalizer coefficient updates that converge towards the same solution as the direct method without having to first write a known pattern to the disk or requiring any prior knowledge of the data already written on the disk. The adaptive cosine function may be used to modify only a DFIR tap set, only the j and k parameters of a cosine equalizer or to modify both the tap set for a DFIR filter and the j and k parameters of the cosine equalizer. Another algorithm, such as the LMS algorithm, may be used to modify parameters not modified by the cosine algorithm.

  • Patent number: 7180615
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing one click printing in an application such as a web browser. The present invention exploits the “pull print” method without requiring copying of the URL. An application is enhanced so that when the user clicks on the link for the pre-formatted document, the application contacts the user's printer, print server, or other device that accepts print jobs, and submits a “pull print” request referring to the URL. Alternatively, the user accesses the context menu for a link which points to a printable document, the menu presented includes a choice to directly print the document, and then the “pull print” is done.

  • Patent number: 7177041
Abstract: The present invention detects the presence of commands requesting backchannel data in a print job and directs the flow of print jobs accordingly. If commands requesting backchannel data are detected, the jobs are routed directly to the interpreter and the print engine. If no commands for backchannel data are detected in the print job, the job may be routed to a spooler. If a print job containing commands for backchannel data is cancelled, the job data are processed through the interpreter to generate the backchannel content and are purged after the interpreter and before the job is committed to paper. Print jobs that do not contain commands requesting backchannel data are purged from the point of job cancellation.

  • Patent number: 7171741
Abstract: A Giant Magneto-Resistive (GMR) sensor (900) having Current Perpendicular to Plane (CPP) structure is formed providing an extended first pinned layer (914) as compared to second pinned layer (912) and free layer (910). Increased magnetoresistance changes, increased pinning strength, increased thermal stability, and decreased susceptibility to Electro-Static Discharge (ESD) events is realized by maintaining equivalent current densities through free layer (910) and second pinned layer (912), while decreasing the relative current density through first pinned layer (914).

  • Patent number: 7171509
Abstract: Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) device contains Host Messaging Unit (HMU) which is operative to off load host processor and PCI device processor from PCI bus transfer overhead. HMU is configurable to asynchronously retrieve host processor commands from circular buffer, either by using polling or interrupt service techniques. Both host command retrieval methods are operable to remove host processor and PCI device processor from direct PCI bus command transactions, thereby increasing the efficiency of both processors. Interrupt service control of HMU is operative to buffer multiple service requests from PCI device processor, so that a more efficient use of the host processor interrupt service routine is implemented, providing for multiple service requests to be serviced in a single interrupt service request.

  • Patent number: 7170617
Abstract: The present invention efficiently directs the flow of print jobs and efficiently controls the spooling and printing of print jobs. The multiplexer system analyzes jobs received from client systems through print channels. The multiplexer determines the attributes of the incoming job and the attributes associated with the print channel. If the attributes of the print job and the attributes of the print channel dictate an output path (either MUST PRINT or MUST SPOOL), then the multiplexer examines the state of the selected path. If the designated output path (printer or spooler) is busy, then the multiplexer decision is to signal a Stop_Flow to the print channel. The print channel is signaled to Start_Flow at a later time, when the output path becomes available. If the attributes of the print job and the attributes of the print channel do not dictate an output path, then the multiplexer examines a User Output Selection setting to control spooling and printing of print jobs.
