  • Patent number: 4994186
Abstract: Disclosed is a can-like container adapted with internal structure which allows the container to be filled with a liquid combination of a major liquid component, such as gasoline, and a liquid contaminant such as water which is immiscible with and more dense than the major component, and which container structure allows the major liquid component to be poured from the container while the contaminant liquid is retained in an internal compartment of the container. There is an internal vertical divider wall that makes sealing connection with the top and side walls of the container and which has a lower edge at a set distance below the top of the container. An opening in the container top lies adjacent the top edge of the internal wall, to one side of that wall. The other side of the internal wall, in conjunction with portions of the container top and side walls forms a water trapping zone.

  • Patent number: 4973060
Abstract: An expandable broadhead for a hunting arrow includes a first elongate member having a rear end adapted to be releasably attached to the front end of an arrow shaft and a longitudinally extending forward portion. There is a second elongate member that has a tipped front end and a rearwardly extending portion adapted to slidably connect with the longitudinally extending forward portion of the first member, and for guiding the second member in axial movement relative to the first member from a forward position to a rearward position. Each of a pair of blades with sharpened outer edges has a front end that is pivotally connected to the second elongate member. There is a pair of linking arms, each arm having a rear end that is pivotally connected to the first elongate member and a forward end that pivotally connects with a blade at a point therealong spaced from the front end of the blade.

  • Patent number: 4971356
Abstract: This invention is puzzle shaped units that preferably are filled with concrete or sand and interlocked in such a way as to form one ballast unit that will lay flat on the floor of a vehicle's normal cargo carrying area. These puzzle shaped units can be arranged in many ways to best fit the cargo space and ballast weight requirements of any vehicle. They are made in such a way and of such a weight that they are easy to take in and out as the need arises.

  • Patent number: 4955090
Abstract: A toilet, particularly adapted for handling liquid and solid bodily waste in a zero gravity environment, including a housing with a main wall having a central waste-receiving opening therein, and a plurality of toroidal elements in close stacked relationship in a coaxial array that extends inwardly of the housing from the central opening, and a flexible, resilient inner wall of each element being inwardly expandable and retractable, and air compression and suction means in flow communication with each element for pneumatically expanding and contracting the flexible wall of each element. A flexible bag has an open end that mounts about the central opening, an elongated neck portion that is embraced by the toroidal elements, and another portion for accumulating waste material. The bag is porous to gases and impervious to solids and liquids. Spray means can inject a water spray at the central opening, and housing exhaust means can cause airflow into the open end of the bag and out through its porous walls.

  • Patent number: 4930493
Abstract: Disclosed is a heliostat assembly having a circular, ring mounted reflector which is driven and supported by an arrangement of elongated levers. A pair of levers are spaced apart and pivotally mounted at their lower ends, and have upper ends which are linked to the heliostat ring at diametrically opposite horizontally spaced location, by way of ball-and-socket type joints. A third lever has a first end similarly mounted to the heliostat ring at a location below and mid-way between the connections of the lever pair. Assuming the assembly is located in a south-facing heliostat field, the third lever extends generally southward to its second end which is mounted for movement about a horizontal axis. By driving each one of the lever pair in opposite directions the heliostat may be turned for solar tracking. The heliostat may also be driven to a protective stow position by pivoting the lever pair southwardly together in parallel, until the heliostat is turned to a horizontal, face-down position.

  • Patent number: 4919228
Abstract: System for rescuing occupants of a tall building having at least one generally planar windowed face is disclosed, which system includes a first and a second boom mounted respectively at opposite sides of the building face at a building level above that face. Each boom has a retracted position and is shiftable to a cantilevered position in which its outer end overhangs the side of the building. A first and a second hoist cable extends respectively from the outer ends of the booms. A rescue cage has a top, a bottom and a flexible, collapsible, heat-shielding wall extending between the peripheries of the top and bottom to provide a shielded compartment. A pair of hoists are mounted to the cage top and engage individually the first and second hoist cables in order to drivingly support the cage adjacent the building face. The hoists are controllable so as to be driven differentially to move the cage transversely of the building face, and driven in the same direction for vertical motion.

  • Patent number: 4912850
Abstract: A method is disclosed by which an article of art comprising a mosaic-like pictorial design may be made. The pictorial design comprises an arrangement of a plurality of flat, colored pieces of material, with each piece having the configuration of a square, a triangle or a rectangle. The pieces are pictorially arranged by visually following a separate, mosaic-like pattern of numerically color-coded shapes which lie on a grid pattern of intersecting transverse and longitudinal lines which form rows of equal-sized squares and wherein the coded shapes are square, with the size of a grid square, triangular, and rectangular; the triangular shape formed by diagonally bisecting a square, and each rectangular shape by bisecting a square with a line parallel to a transverse or longitudinal line.
