Patent number: 5782759Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and device for creating and testing arterial and venous thrombotic conditions. The invention includes a tube which is inserted into a blood vessel of an animal. The tube contains one or more strands upon which various materials, such as procoagulants and anticoagulants may be placed. Blood flows through the tube and clots form on the threads. After the completion of the test, the tube is removed from the animal, the strands are removed from the tube and the clots may be measured and weighed. In a preferred embodiment, a flowmeter may be connected to the blood vessel to measure the blood flow so that the clot measurements may be correlated with the blood flow.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1996Date of Patent: July 21, 1998Assignee: Warner-Lambert CompanyInventors: Liguo Chi, Lori Saganek, Kim P. Patent number: 5771592Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method of maintaining a cover on the razor head of a wet shave razor. Such a cover is used to prevent damage to the cutting edge of the razor and to prevent accidental contact with the cutting edge when the razor is not in use. The present invention is also directed to a razor unit having a cover which is semi-permanently affixed to the razor head via a protective seal. The cover is affixed to the razor head during manufacture in a position such that it covers the cutting edges of the blades. Preferably, the cover is affixed through the use of an adhesive strip or strips which are attached to the cover and the razor head. The user must manually remove or break the adhesive strip in order to remove the cover to expose the cutting edge and begin shaving.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1995Date of Patent: June 30, 1998Assignee: Warner-Lambert CompanyInventor: Ilya Nizker

Patent number: 5689883Abstract: A shaving implement, such as a disposable cartridge or razor, comprises a shaving head which includes a skin-contacting element, in the form of a plurality of sections of flexible ridges. The ridges in each section are oriented alternately at positive and negative angles relative to the blade, in a herringbone pattern, and define flow-through recesses. Preferably, a ridge from each section is joined together with a ridge from an adjoining section, to form a chevron-shaped node between sections. When shaving, adjacent sections push areas of the skin in different directions, while the flow-through channels retain a layer of lubricating material on the skin, so that the cartridge provides a smooth, comfortable shave.Type: GrantFiled: May 8, 1995Date of Patent: November 25, 1997Assignee: Warner-Lambert CompanyInventors: Ernest A. Ortiz, Evan N. Chen

Patent number: 5667672Abstract: The present invention is directed to an aquarium undergravel filter. In particular, the undergravel filter of the present invention contains chambers on its underside. The chambers, which are roughly equal in size, are separated by baffles and have openings which allow water to flow into flow channels which lead to the lift tube holes. The chambers and flow channels provide for equal filtration over the entire surface of the filter plate. In a preferred embodiment, the undergravel filter of the present invention also contains an anti-dig grid which prevents fish from digging the gravel on the plate of the filter by use of an anti-dig grid. The anti-dig grid is located on the top surface of the filter and prevents fish from removing the gravel and exposing the openings in the filter.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 1996Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: Warner-Lambert CompanyInventors: Steven Convertino, Jonas Ivasauskas

Patent number: 5666729Abstract: Shaving systems having a first support, at least one, and preferably a plurality, of resilient supports, and a plurality of skin-engaging elements movably arranged in spaced relation and supported by the resilient support. The resilient supports normally maintain the movable skin-engaging elements, e.g. blades and/or cap member, in spaced relation such that the movable, skin-engaging elements are spaced by a first distance, relative to each other, when the skin-engaging elements are in a normal, unbiased position. In one embodiment, when one or more of the skin-engaging elements is acted upon by forces normally encountered during shaving, the resilient supports yield in order to move each of the blades and the cap into a less aggressive, compressed position wherein the spacing between neighboring skin-engaging elements is reduced.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1995Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: Warner-Lambert CompanyInventor: Frank A. Ferraro

Patent number: 5665304Abstract: A rack unit display system is provided to display goods, such as in a retail store, in a well structured and ordered manner. The goods are horizontally stacked in the rack unit. A theft protection member is provided which limits unauthorized access to the goods. The left protection member is adjustable in height to allow the display unit to accommodate different sized goods. The goods are pushed forward in the unit by a slide member where the units can then be removed from the rack in small quantities. The back unit is releasably mounted and secured by a lock mechanism on a base member, which in turn is mounted on a rectangular bar. The rack unit can be released from the base member by means of a key. The slide member can be locked in a rear end position of the display unit when the rack unit is removed from the base member. The unit can be filled or refilled with ease without interference from the slide member. The height of the theft protection member is also adjustable.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1995Date of Patent: September 9, 1997Assignee: Warner-Lambert CompanyInventors: Thomas Heinen, Christian Engel

Patent number: 5653025Abstract: A battery-operated thermal shaver is provided which includes an impeller for directing a stream of heated air to the line of contact between a razor blade and the hair to be cut by the shaver. The impeller is a fan located within an air chamber of the shaver which draws ambient air into the chamber and directs it past a heating element to raise the temperature of the air to 120.degree.-170.degree. F. The impeller then exhausts the heated air through an exhaust port and into proximity with the razor blade. The fan is operated by a motor, having a drive shaft, which is protected against liquid penetration by a liquid barrier. The liquid barrier is a reservoir formed in the base of the fan for holding material immiscible in liquids. During operation, the drive shaft of the motor rotates the impeller while encased within the liquid barrier.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1996Date of Patent: August 5, 1997Assignee: Warner-Lambert CompanyInventors: Larry Cheng, Tony J. Lillios, Jason M. B. Quintana

Patent number: 5630275Abstract: The various embodiments of the present invention are directed to razor heads having a plurality of cutting edges wherein the physical characteristics of the cutting edges are different from each other. Among the items which may be varied in the blades are the substrate material, coatings or shape. Preferably, the characteristics of the first blade should be such as to maximize the blade's cutting effect in relation to the skin/beard flow over the guard bar of the razor head. The subsequent blades are such as to maximize the cutting action as the skin flow over the first blade and on to the subsequent blades. In addition, one or more fencing elements may be disposed over discrete, spaced portions of one or both cutting edges to prevent those portions of the cutting edges from contacting the skin being shaved.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1995Date of Patent: May 20, 1997Assignee: Warner-Lambert CompanyInventor: Fred C. Wexler
