  • Patent number: 4838848
Abstract: A continuous paper band folding apparatus to form paper sheet piles is disclosed, which apparatus allows the formed folds to be squeezed and the paper band to be exactly cut in order to achieve separate piles of paper sheets. The apparatus comprises two rotating shafts carrying blades which engage the paper band and provide to form a fold therein by the particular radial and longitudinal arrangement of the blades forming a cusp symmetric with respect to the point of engagement with the paper band. Blades are rotated synchronously with the feed of paper band so that initially a natural loop is allowed to be formed in the paper band when the blades do not interfere therewith. Then the vertex of the cusp formed by the blades engages the paper band, thus causing it to be folded back.

  • Patent number: 4821414
Abstract: A tool for cutting a workpiece comprising a tool body; means on the tool body for securing the workpiece; a saw blade movably supported on the body for cutting the secured workpiece, the saw blade having a plurality of cutting teeth movable in a sawing direction and a feeding direction in a cutting plane extending through the workpiece; and a bushing on the tool body rotatable about an axis normal to the cutting plane, the bushing being engagable on its periphery by the saw blade teeth and rotatable thereby, after cutting of the workpiece, to restrict movement of the saw blade in the feeding direction while permitting movement of the saw blade in the sawing direction. In the preferred embodiment the bushing includes teeth on the periphery which are of comparable size and spacing to the teeth of the saw blade to clean the latter. The bushing may be made of a bronze porous powder metal which is impregnated with a lubricant for lubricating the saw blade teeth.

  • Patent number: 4797214
Abstract: A process for treating an emulsion or solution of water and oil or the like comprising the steps of (a) contacting said emulsion or solution with an inorganic salt; (b) contacting said emulsion or solution with a synthetic polyelectrolyte flocculant; and, after steps (a) and (b), contacting said emulsion or solution with a demulsifying agent whereby said emulsion or solution is split into separate oil and water phases for subsequent separation. Preferably the salt is sodium chloride, the flocculant is an anionic synthetic flocculant having a molecular weight of six to eight million and a charge of three (3), and the demulsifying agent is sulfuric acid. • Patent number: 4786328
Abstract: A mixture capable of forming a hard, bonded cement composition when admixed with water comprising magnesium oxide; a water soluble phosphate; a retarder selected from the group consisting of polycarboxylic acids, polyphosphonic acids, and salts of such acids; and an essentially inert aggregate filler. The retarder is preferably selected from the group consisting of citric acid, sodium citrate (monobasic), sodium citrate (dibasic), tartaric acid, trimellitic acid, nitrilotriacetic acid trisodium salt monohydrate, Dequest 2000 and Dequest 2006. The phosphate is preferably monoammonium phosphate and the filler is preferably silica sand and fly ash which are essentially free of calcium oxide and calcium carbonate. The mixture is admixed with water at a job site and used to fill holes in roads and other structures and is capable of being worked for at least seven minutes before initial set.

  • Patent number: 4773111
Abstract: A process for making self-threading screw fasteners wherein only the cutting portions of the tip of the fasteners are hardened. The unhardened portions of the fastener remain ductile and are not subject to hydrogen embrittlement during subsequent plating to improve corrosion resistance. The process preferably comprises applying a radiation curable plastic coating over the drill tip followed by plating of a thin (minimum 0.0005 inch, 0.013 mm) layer of copper. The cured coating is then removed leaving an unplated tip. The screw is then subjected to a hardening process, wherein only the portions of the screw without the copper layer are hardened. The screw may then be plated conventionally with a corrosion resistant metal. The invention is further directed to the product of the process. A second embodiment for making screws suitable for extreme corrosion resistance is also described.

  • Patent number: 4769909
Abstract: An improved quick clamping device to hold armored cables such as BX cable for cutting. The device includes a handle for receiving the cable which is preferably U-shaped and which defines a cable receiving channel. A clamping handle is hingedly attached to one end of the cable receiving handle. A clamping stud with a two-sided stop adjustable along its length is slidably held between the clamping and receiving handles such that when the handles are compressed the clamping stud projects into the cable receiving channel and clamps the cable. A spring biasing means on one side of the stop serves to hold the handles in the open, unclamped position prior to use. A resilient means such as a bowed spring steel washer is provided on the other side of the stop which compresses as required to prevent excess clamping forces from being generated which might damage the clamp. A saw is preferably mounted on a pivoted saw handle to cut the cable which it is clamped.
