  • Patent number: 8112250
Abstract: Semiconductor device circuits and methods are provided for adjusting core processor performance and energy-efficiency based on usage metrics. Metric detection, performance state selection, and adjustment are done in digital logic hardware without intervening input from system software or firmware, thus greatly speeding the processor performance adjustment. Mapping usage and state information to desired processor power-performance states is also provided in circuitry rather than firmware or power control software. The mapping values may be programmable software or firmware, but detection, selection, and adjustment occur automatically in hardware without intervening input from firmware or software.

  • Patent number: 8108206
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for providing an auto-generated to-do list are described. Text is received in an instant messenger conversation, wherein the text comprises a task sender, a task body, and a task date, and an input is received selecting a selection of the text, wherein the selection comprises the task body. The text is analyzed to identify the task sender, the task body, and the task date. The task is then entered into the to-do list, wherein the task comprises the task sender, the task body, and the task date, thereby providing an auto-generated to-do list.

  • Patent number: 8107360
Abstract: Disclosed is a computer implemented method and apparatus for establishing a redundant channel from an application to a peer data processing system. The interrupt-driven hot standby program receives, through the operation of a data processing system, a communication channel status corresponding to an application. The application has a first channel using local access across a first physical conduit to a first switch. In addition the communication channel status is, in part, an interrupt. The interrupt-driven hot standby program determines whether the redundant channel is present. The redundant channel is configured to use a second physical conduit distinct from the first physical conduit for traffic of the application. Responding to a determination that the redundant channel is present, the interrupt-driven hot standby program determines whether the redundant channel is configured to use the second physical conduit as local access to a redundant switch, wherein the redundant switch is not the first switch.

  • Patent number: 8107913
Abstract: A digital regulated Local Oscillator (LO) buffer receives an unregulated LO signal from a local oscillator to create a regulated LO signal. Embodiments include not only the digital regulated LO buffer, but also a transceiver and/or a receiver including at least one instance of the digital LO buffer. They may be implemented as an integrated circuit. The digital regulated LO Buffer may include: A LO buffer receiving the unregulated LO signal and an amplitude control signal to create the regulated LO signal. A peak detector receives the regulated LO signal to create an analog peak signal that is presented to a digital output comparator along with a reference amplitude signal to create a digital threshold detect signal. An amplitude controller receives the digital threshold detect signal to create a digital control signal that drives a digitally controlled source to create the amplitude control signal.

  • Patent number: 8102216
Abstract: A VCO comprises an LC tank circuit coupled to a plurality of cross-coupled transistor devices. A first resonance frequency of a waveform output of the VCO is dependent upon the values of a first capacitor and a first inductor of the LC tank. The VCO further comprises a first series LC resonator comprising a second capacitor and a second inductor in parallel to the first capacitor and the first inductor. The values of the second capacitor and second inductor are selected to produce a second resonance frequency that is a third harmonic of the first resonance frequency, thereby increasing a slope of the voltage controlled oscillator output. The increased slope reduces phase noise, which leads to improved signal-to-noise ratio.

  • Patent number: 8103958
Abstract: Communicating an Instant Messaging (IM) user's availability status message is managed by a user-defined shortcut command, which is used to generate a user-drafted status response. When the user receives an instant message at an inopportune time, the user inputs the user-defined shortcut command, which results in the user-drafted status response being automatically transmitted to a sender of the instant message that was received at the inopportune time.

  • Patent number: 8094015
Abstract: Monitoring systems with predictive failure analysis technology (e.g., Self Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T)) operate on the basis of correlations between the hard disk's mechanical and electronic characteristics. Using wavelet transforms to analyze electrical signals from the hard disks can help better determine changes in values and trends in various hard disk characteristics. Using wavelet transforms allows for thorough and deeper analysis of the electrical signals from the hard disks. Wavelet analysis can be performed on the electrical signal to extract time and frequency information associated with the low and high frequency components. Analyzing the extracted components of the electrical signal can indicate a presence and position of one or more mechanical defects on the hard disk.

  • Patent number: 8087087
Abstract: A computer receives a system event initiated by an initiating client associated with a user. The system event comprises a plurality of data elements associated with respective ones of a plurality of system event attributes. It is determined that the system event fails to conform to the security policy. A greatest of a plurality of significance factors assigned to a plurality of data groups that are associated with the plurality of data elements of the system event is determined. If the system event does not match a special attention rule, the greatest of the plurality of significance factors is assigned to the system event as a severity level. If the system event matches the special attentions rule, then a greater of the greatest of the plurality of significance factors and the pre-assigned severity level is assigned to the system event as a severity level.

  • Patent number: 8086896
Abstract: In virtualized environments, storage may be managed dynamically due to the changing data storage requirements. In such environments, logical storage unit identifiers (LUN IDs) may be modified as a result of deleting an existing mapping between physical storage and a virtualization server and recreating the mapping. This can result in I/O request failure. Techniques for resolving errors resulting from LUN ID modifications can be time-intensive and labor-intensive and can disrupt a communication path between a host device and the physical storage. Functionality can be implemented to dynamically identify the LUN ID modifications, determine valid LUN IDs, and retransmit failed I/O requests. This can help minimize I/O request failures due to LUN ID modifications without disrupting the communication path between the host device and the physical storage.

  • Patent number: 8086846
Abstract: Methods and systems for providing non-proxy Secure Sockets Layer and Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) support in a content-based load balancer are described. A Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) connection is accepted from a client, and an SSL/TLS connection is established with the client such that random data used in key generation is created. A request is received from the client, and the request is decrypted. The request is processed, a target stack is selected, and the TCP connection, the SSL/TLS connection, and the random data are transferred to the selected target stack such that the client and selected target stack maintain an end-to-end TCP connection with a non-proxy SSL/TLS connection.

  • Patent number: 8086436
Abstract: A deployment activity model is automatically generated from a deployment topology model. The operations to automatically generate the deployment activity model may be visible or “under the covers.” Regardless of visibility, a deployment model tool traverses a representation (e.g., one or more data structures) of the one or more diagrams of the deployment topology model. The deployment model tool begins creating preliminary representations of a deployment activity model until representation of a valid deployment activity model is created. Although the preliminary representations (assuming the first traversal attempt of the deployment topology model is unsuccessful) are discarded in some embodiments, other embodiments store the representations of the preliminary representations for analysis (e.g., analysis for the tool to learn, analysis to discover values for automatically defining attributes, etc.).

  • Patent number: 8072722
Abstract: Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can affect the operation of and even damage an unprotected integrated circuit. Conventional ESD protection circuits may not be able to protect the integrated circuit if the voltage at the output of the integrated circuit swings with large amplitude. In some embodiments, an ESD protection circuit comprising switching circuitry that provides a low AC impedance path to ground can prevent improper triggering of the ESD protection circuit during normal operation of the integrated circuit, while ensuring that the ESD protection circuit device reliability is not compromised.
