  • Patent number: 8155044
Abstract: A method and system broadcasts an alert packet in a wireless multi-hop network of nodes. An event is sensed in a source node of the network, and an alert packet is broadcast in response to sensing the event. The alert packet is received in a set of candidate nodes within a broadcast range of the source node. Each candidate node infers a distance between the candidate node and the source node based on a receive power of the received alert packet, and determines a priority for rebroadcasting the alert packet, wherein the priority is based on the distance to minimizing a probability of collisions while rebroadcasting the alert packet and extend a range of the rebroadcasting.

  • Patent number: 8149278
Abstract: A method and system tracks models and predict object movement in an environment. Sequences of temporally and spatially adjacent events sensed by the set of sensors are linked to form a set of tracklets. Each tracklet has an associated starting and terminating location. The tracklets are used to construct a directed graph including starting nodes, terminating nodes, and, intermediate nodes connected by edges. The intermediate nodes can be split nodes where tracklets diverge onto different tracks, and join nodes where multiple tracklets converge onto a single path. Probabilities are assigned to the edges to model and predict movement of the objects in the environment.

  • Patent number: 8144657
Abstract: A method allocates resource in an Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) network, including a set of Base Stations (BSs) and a set of Mobile Stations (MSs) for each BS. OFDMA frame are constructed as multiple resource blocks, and each resource block contains symbols transmitted on different subcarriers. A cluster is formed from adjacent sectors of different neighboring cells to jointly optimize the resource allocation in multiple frames, and three non-overlap zones are sequentially identified in cluster: cell center zone, cell edge zone, and cluster corner zone. Resource allocation includes intra-cluster proportional fair scheduling and inter-cluster interference mitigation. Intra-cluster scheduling further includes resource allocation for cell center zone and resource allocation for cell edge zone.

  • Patent number: 8140450
Abstract: A method trains a multi-class classifier by iteratively performing the following steps until a termination condition is reached. The probabilities of class membership for unlabeled data obtained from an active pool of unlabeled data are estimated. A difference between a largest probability and a second largest probability is determined. The unlabeled data with the lowest difference is selected, labeled and then added to a training data set for training the classifier.

  • Patent number: 8139888
Abstract: The current invention describes a method for filtering an input image with a bilateral filter. The bilateral filter includes a spatial filter and a range filter. The method constructs a set of power images from an input image including pixels, each pixel having intensity. Then, the method applies, to each power image, the spatial filter to determine a response for the spatial filter and the corresponding power image and combines the responses and the set of power images to produce a response for the bilateral filter.

  • Patent number: 8139668
Abstract: A transmitter encodes an input bitstream using space-time trellis coding (STTC). The encoder includes a serial to parallel convertor to produce a first and second output bitstreams. First and second three bit shift registers are connected to produce first and second output bitstreams. A multiplier applies a code generating weight to each bit of the shift registers to encode the bitstreams. A first switch is connected between a last bit of the first shift register and a first bit of the second shift register. A second switch is connected between the second output and the first bit of the second shift register. The first set of encoded bit streams and the second set of encoded bitstreams are combined and mapped to a frequency domain.

Abstract: Embodiment of invention discloses a system and a method for determining a three-dimensional (3D) location of a folding point of a ray between a point in a scene (PS) and a center of projection (COP) of a camera of a catadioptric system. One embodiment maps the catadioptric system, including 3D locations of the PS and the COP on a two-dimensional (2D) plane defined by an axis of symmetry of a folding optical element and the PS to produce a conic and 2D locations of the PS and COP on the 2D plane, and determines a 2D location of the folding point on the 2D plane based on the conic, the 2D locations of the PS and the COP. Next, the embodiment determines the 3D location of the folding point from the 2D location of the folding point on the 2D plane.

  • Patent number: 8121805
Abstract: A location of an object is determined by arranging a sequence of bits on a substrate. The sequence of bits includes subsequence of bits, and each subsequence of bits is unique for each location along the substrate. When the object is at a particular location along the substrate a sensor detects the subsequence of bits at the particular location, and a decoder associates the location of the subsequence at the particular location with the object. The substrate can be a leaky coaxial cable with slits or not, corresponding to the bits, or lane markings on a road.

  • Patent number: 8107721
Abstract: A camera acquires a set of coded images and a set of flash images of a semi-specular object. The coded images are acquired while scanning the object with a laser beam pattern, and the flash images are acquired while illuminating the object with a set of light sources at different locations near the camera, there being one flash image for each light source. 3D coordinates of points on the surface of the object are determined from the set of coded images, and 2D silhouettes of the object are determined from shadows cast in the set of flash images. Surface normals are obtained for the 3D points from photometric stereo on the set of flash images. The 3D coordinates, 2D silhouettes and surface normals are compared with a known 3D model of the object to determine the pose of the object.

  • Patent number: 8107541
Abstract: A method segments a video. Audio frames of the video are classified with labels. Dominant labels are assigned to successive time intervals of consecutive labels. A semantic description is constructed for sliding time windows of the successive time intervals, in which the sliding time windows overlap in time, and the semantic description for each time window is a transition matrix determined from the dominant labels of the time intervals. A marker is determined from the transition matrices, in which a frequency of occurrence of the marker is between a low frequency threshold and a high frequency threshold. Then, the video is segmented at the locations of the markers.

  • Patent number: 8107729
Abstract: A method aligns a character to a sampling grid of an image, where an outline of the character is specified by input pen commands. Points and contours of the input pen commands are determined. An orientation of each contour is determined. A first directed acyclic graph (DAG) is constructed indicating a hierarchical relationship of related contours. Radicals are determined using the first DAG. Simple segments of the contours are determined and merged independently for each radical. Segment pairs and their hinted coordinates are determined. The segment pairs are sorted and a second DAG is constructed for the sorted segment pairs. Collisions between the segment pairs are resolved using the second DAG. The segments pairs, x-free points, and y-free points are fitted to the sampling grid independently for each radical and a result of the fitting is stored in output pen commands.

  • Patent number: 8102397
Abstract: A method aligns a character to a sampling grid of an image. An original uniform width path that traces a skeleton of the character is specified by input pen commands having original coordinates. The width of the original path is rounded to a nearest integer to produce a hinted width. The original path is traversed using the input pen commands to identify segments of the path. The segments are stored in an array. Hinted coordinates are determined for each segment in the array. The array is sorted, and a directed acyclic graph (DAG) is constructed. Collisions between the segments are resolved using the sorted array, the DAG, and the width of the hinted path. The segments are fitted to the sampling grid, and the result is stored in output pen commands, thereby aligning the skeleton of the character to the sampling grid.

  • Patent number: 8098611
Abstract: Source nodes in an International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT)-advanced 4G network transmit data on uplink channels to a relay node and a BS using a channel code. The relay node decodes independently the data received from each source node, and applies network coding to data correctly decoded, and transmits the encoded data to the BS. The BS decodes the encoded data transmitted by the sources nodes and the relay nodes cooperatively via a turbo decoding process. The data from each source node are decoded by soft-input soft-output single user decoders and are decoded, together with the data from the relay node, by a soft-input soft-output multi-user decoder.
