  • Patent number: 4930660
Abstract: A combination working tray and sterilization case is provided for medical instruments, wherein first and second ventilated shell halves are pivotally connected to each other for movement between open and closed positions, thereby forming a tray in the open position and a sterilization case in the closed position. A spring is provided in each of the first and second shell halves in order to hold medical instruments between adjacent convolutions of each spring.

  • Patent number: 4920999
Abstract: An air actuated valve system for shutting off fluid flow in a fluid conduit includes a seismic valve disposed in a seismic air circuit which is coupled to a primary air circuit. The primary air circuit delivers air at a high pressure to an air driven actuator which maintains a shut off valve in a fluid conduit in an open position. The high air pressure flows through an air switch which is operationally open and coupled to the seismic air circuit such that when the seismic valve is closed a pilot air pressure is prevented from flowing to the air switch. In the absence of the pilot air pressure, air pressure is bled from the air switch, causing the air switch to move from an open to a closed position, thus preventing air from flowing to the air actuator.

  • Patent number: 4844308
Abstract: A dental paste cup is provided which comprises a cup having an open mouth defined by a rim, a removable closure overlying the open mouth and engaging the rim, and a finger mount extending adjacently and circumferentially from the rim, in a ring-like manner, and terminating in an open end proximate to the rim to thereby provide a slide-resistant grip on a support finger. In one embodiment, the end segment, which is releasably attached to the outer rim of the cup, passes through an aperture in the finger mount into alignment with an outer extension of the closure, which is releasably secured to the inner rim of the cup. The application of a vertical squeezing force to the finger mount disengages the end segment from the rim and permits the end segment to bear against the outer extension of the closure and thereby effect displacement of the closure from the mouth of the cup.

  • Patent number: 4831384
Abstract: The invention relates to a receiver for microwave signals--either emitted by a body or reflected therefrom--capable of analyzing the polar distribution of the signal strength by measuring the strength of the incoming signal after it had been passed through a horizontal, polarizing filter disk with three distinct transmission regions. One region transmits the entire signal reflected from a planar mirror positioned substantially at 45 degrees to the horizon and rotated on a vertical axis; the second and third regions in the planar electro-optical filter are defined by parallel grid lines, formed by electrical conductors opaque to the reflected radiation and aligned in mutually orthogonal arrays in the two regions respectively, so that each grid alignment becomes transparent to one polarization of the radiation incident thereon.

  • Patent number: 4781923
Abstract: An antiseptic gel composition comprising polyglycerylmethacrylate hydrate gel and hydrogen peroxide is prepared by admixing an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide with polyglycerylmethacrylate hydrate gel so as to provide a gel composition containing from about 0.5 to about 15 wt. % hydrogen peroxide. The composition is stable and, at a suitable hydrogen peroxide concentration, is adapted for adherent application to infectious dermal sites.

  • Patent number: 4770634
Abstract: A foamable fluoride composition, for use in dental therapy, is provided that contains water, dental fluoride, foaming agent, foam-wall thickener and acidifying agent. An illustrative composition comprises water, sodium fluoride, sucrose distearate, glycerol and phosphoric acid. The foamable fluoride composition, which is packaged in an aerosol container in combination with an aerosol propellant, is dispensed into the trough of a dental tray as a dense, stable, non-flowable foam which is superimposed about and into engagement with the teeth to be treated to thereby effect fluoride uptake by the dental enamel. The fluoride foam provides substantially the same fluoride uptake as a fluoride gel but this result is achieved by the fluoride foam with substantially less fluoride in the tray than that which is present in a corresponding tray containing a like volume of fluoride gel.

  • Patent number: 4745939
Abstract: A shock actuated shut-off valve for fluid flow lines is provided which includes a valve housing having a central chamber in communication with inlet and outlet conduits and with a hollow, outwardly enclosed stowage arm in upward, substantially plumb communication with the central chamber. A valve element having a longitudinal aperture incorporating non-occlusive abutment means is releasably supported in the stowage arm for vibratory displacement to and sealing engagement with the central chamber. An inner closure is sealingly disposed in the stowage arm above the valve element. A tether slidably and sealingly extends through an aperture in the inner closure and extends, in spaced relationship, through the aperture in the releasably supported valve element, with the lower end of the tether incorporating a lift member disposed, in a non-obstructive static position, below the abutment means.

In a preferred embodiment, the closure is releasably secured to the inner rim of the cup and the open end segment of the finger mount, which is releasably attached to the outer rim of the cup, passes through an aperture in the finger mount into alignment with an outer extension of the closure. The application of a vertical squeezing force to the finger mount disengages the end segment from the rim and permits the end segment to bear against the outer extension of the closure and thereby effect displacement of the closure form the mouth of the cup.

  • Patent number: 4693365
Abstract: A package (20, 40, 48, 56, 72) is sealed to enclose dental floss or other filament (22). The filament is sealed at its end portions (22b) within sealed ends (26b, 26d; 46b, 46d; 50b, 50d; 62b, 62d; 74b, 74d) of the package, and a bunched-up filament portion is sealed within the package. A notch (30) with a cut (30a and 30b), a tear line 54, a tear-away tab (64) or simply the package material which is easily tearable, enables the package to be opened, by using a greater or lesser sized segment (e.g., 34; 64; 72a or 72b) of the package as a handle to draw the filament untangled and unknotted from the package. The package is formed using instrumentation including a feed tube (114) and a mandrel (116) which are concentrically positioned and relatively movable with respect to one another in timed movements.
