Patent number: 4569157Abstract: A flagging apparatus having non-contacting proximity switches emitting a directional energy field and producing a signal in response to an induced alteration of the energy field, a rotatable target element having target faces for engaging and altering the energy field and a probe attached to the target element and contacted by a surface of a workpiece is provided for repetitively positioning workpieces in the work space of a grinder in reference to a grinding wheel. Advantageously, the flagging apparatus is operative in either of two opposing directions without a mechanical and/or electrical change over or modification in the apparatus with a change in operating direction. To achieve the operation in either of two opposing directions the target faces of the target element are spaced apart from each other such that the sequence in which the energy fields are engaged and altered by the target faces remains independent of the direction of rotation of the target element.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1984Date of Patent: February 11, 1986Assignee: Cincinnati Milacron Inc.Inventor: Dennis R. Riehle

Patent number: 4496180Abstract: A vacuum operated apparatus is provided for releasably grasping and transporting a thin solid object or article (e.g. silicon semiconductor wafer). The apparatus has two fixed rigid arms joined together at their rear end to define a gap therebetween having an open end and closed end wherein the upper arm directs the thin solid object into the gap and toward the lower arm having a port communicating with the gap and an enclosed passage way connected to a vacuum source. A vacuum applied to the lower arm holds the object against the grasping surface of the lower arm. Silicon semiconductor wafers may be grasped and transported with the apparatus and more especially silicon semiconductor wafers can be deposited onto and removed from the surface of a barrel type susceptor of an epitaxial reactor with enhanced ease and reduced danger of scratching and breaking the wafer.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 1983Date of Patent: January 29, 1985Assignee: Cincinnati Milacron Industries, Inc.Inventors: Joseph T. Hillman, Michael B. Miller

Patent number: 4490327Abstract: A blow molding machine is provided with an external center pin so that blowing is accomplished without introducing a mechanical or rigid member within the preform and/or bottle. To do this, the blowing is done by introducing a fluid, preferably a gas such as air, into the preform to expand it. Outside of the preform, meanwhile, is the subject center pin or center rod which is located on the preform center line (axis) and near the middle of the preform bottom. The rod receives a gate disposed centrally on the bottom of the preform when the preform is expanded by the entering fluid. In this manner, the center part of the bottom of the preform is engaged by the center pin which thereafter keeps the preform on center as the blowing action continues. A process is disclosed of blowing using a compressed fluid alone inside the preform to expand the preform axially against the bias of an external resiliently biased center pin.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1983Date of Patent: December 25, 1984Assignee: Cincinnati Milacron Industries, Inc.Inventors: James W. Calvert, Samuel Belcher
