Abstract: Compositions comprising thermoplastic polymers having added thereto small amounts of a hydroxymethyl-substituted carboxylic acid are usefully employed to remove accumulated polymeric residues from polymer processing equipment.
Abstract: A flexible weather resistant film particularly adapted for use as a weatherable surface coating by lamination to a substrate comprising a weather resistant layer of a blend of a vinyl chloride polymer, an interpolymer of ethylene and at least one carboxylic acid or ester thereof containing ethylenic unsaturation, and chlorinated polyethylene, an adhesive layer for adhesion of the film to a substrate comprising an interpolymer of ethylene and acrylic or methacrylic acid and interposed between the weatherable layer and the adhesive layer, an interlayer comprising a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate.
Abstract: A particulated thermoplastic polymer having a uniform surface coating of zinc stearate is prepared by contacting the polymer particles with atomized droplets of molten zinc stearate while supporting and conveying the polymer by a moving stream of a gas. Reduced frictional forces allow increased volumes of coated particles to be transported by pneumatic conveyance. Substantially reduced fine particulate generation or "dusting" is observed for the composition.
Abstract: A polymer resin comprising a blend of polypropylene, a copolymer of a vinylaromatic monomer and .alpha.-methylstyrene prepared by anionic polymerization at a temperature above 61.degree. C. and a monovinylidene aromatic polymer grafted .alpha.-olefin copolymer compatibilizing agent.
Abstract: A flexible weather resistant film comprising a weather resistant layer of a blend of a vinyl chloride polymer and chlorinated polyethylene and a second layer comprising a normally solid thermoplastic adhesive. Improved performance is obtained when the first layer additionally comprises an interpolymer of ethylene and at least one carboxylic acid or ester thereof containing ethylenic unsaturation.
Abstract: Thermoplastic resinous foams having improved resistance to oxidation are provided by the incorporation into such foams of a polyvinyl ether of a C.sub.6-30 alcohol.
Abstract: Multicomponent catalysts comprising copper, a metal selected from the group consisting of vanadium, chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel and zinc; and phosphate are employed for oxidizing an aromatic carboxylic acid to the corresponding phenol, e.g., benzoic acid to phenol.
Abstract: Polymers modified by reaction with thiocyano or isothiocyano generating reactants provide improved adhesive strength to laminates prepared therefrom, improved paint adhesion, increased viscosity and alterated gas permeability compared to unmodified polymers.
Abstract: Esterification of aromatic dicarboxylic acids with cyclic alkylene carbonates in the presence of organic compounds containing at least one six-membered aromatic nitrogen-containing heterocyclic moiety.
Abstract: Fatty acid ester derivatives of 1,3,5-tris(2-hydroxyalkyl)perhydro-s-triazine or mixed ester/ether derivatives thereof are corrosion inhibitors for acid-containing fluids. The compounds are also useful as emulsifiers, lubricants and hydraulic fluids.
Abstract: Impact-modified monovinylidene aromatic polymer compositions are prepared having a specified broad molecular weight distribution. The resins prepared from these resins have been found to produce improved injection molded articles in that flow lines are reduced.
Abstract: Allyl methyl ethers are transetherified with alcohols by use of a catalyst of a solid acid that contains no mercury or cuprous salt catalyst.
Abstract: Monovinylidene aromatic polymer compositions which have good combinations of strength, heat resistance and melt flow properties, are produced by, in effect, adding minor amounts of high molecular weight monovinylidene aromatic polymers to major amounts of intermediate molecular weight polymers. These compositions can be advantageously produced by feeding previously polymerized high molecular weight polymer, dissolved in monomer, into a polymerization zone or reactor wherein the intermediate molecular weight polymer is produced in the presence of the high molecular weight polymer.
Abstract: Photographic films comprising a base film of oriented polystyrene at least one surface of which is highly sulfonated and lithium cation exchanged.
Abstract: Homopolymers and copolymers of butylene oxide having a molecular weight of at least about 1 million are employed as drag reducing agents in nonaqueous liquids.

Abstract: Olefin polymer films are produced comprising amounts of one or more permeability reducing fatty acid derivative compounds. The resultant films have improved barrier abilities as evidenced by reduced methyl bromide diffusion rates. The films are very suitably employed as soil fumigation tarpaulins or soil covering materials. Improved methods for confining chemical treatment agents are also taught.
Abstract: Novel linear polymers of ferrocene are prepared by the reaction of 1,1'-dilithioferrocene with controlled amounts of a dihaloorganylphosphine, arsine or stibine. The polymers form stable complexes with Group VIII metals which are useful as recoverable hydroformylation catalysts.
