    Abstract: A wavelength conversion element having an improved property-maintaining life and a method for manufacturing the wavelength conversion element are provided. A wavelength conversion element 10a has an optical waveguide 13. The wavelength of incoming light 101 input from one end 13a of the optical waveguide 13 is converted and outgoing light 102 is output from the other end 13b of the optical waveguide 13. The wavelength conversion element includes a first crystal 11 composed of AlxGa(1-x)N (0.5?x?1); and a second crystal 12 having the same composition as that of the first crystal. The first and second crystals 11 and 12 form a domain-inverted structure in which a polarization direction is periodically reversed along the optical waveguide 13, and the domain-inverted structure satisfies quasi phase matching conditions with respect to the incoming light 101. At least one of the first and second crystals has a dislocation density of 1×103 cm?2 or more and less than 1×107 cm?2.

A transmission rate determination unit compares the communication unit input data with communication unit output data or a client input data, wherein the communication unit output data is transferred via at least the transport layer and is output from the communication unit, and the client input data is transferred to at least one client. A transmission rate controlling unit controls the encoder in response to a comparison result of the transmission rate determination unit. The transmission rate can be correctly determined so as to effectively transmit data to a plurality of clients.

The method includes detecting a predetermined face area from an input image; converting the input image into Lab coordinates; determining whether coordinate areas having angles corresponding to an angle of the detected face area exist on a Lab color system and searching the input image for the coordinate areas according to a result of the determining; and blurring the detected face area and the found coordinate areas. An image processing apparatus and digital photographing apparatus using the method and apparatus are also provided. Accordingly, reduction of the resolution of a whole image may be prevented by processing only a face area, instead of the whole image, to result in a soft face area image quality. A deterioration in quality of portions which are not supposed to be blurred may be prevented by blurring only a skin color area of the face area.

    Abstract: An LED-powered replacement for the conventional incandescent screw-in light bulb comprises a phosphor coated sphere emitting white light into the same spherical pattern as a frosted incandescent bulb. In one embodiment inside the hollow sphere there is a dielectric cone emitting blue light, which causes the phosphor coating to glow. The blue light comes into the cone from a dielectric totally internally reflecting concentrator (DTIRC), which receives light from a conical reflector surrounding an LED array. The array has blue chips for energizing the phosphor and red chips for supplementing the phosphor light, enabling separate electronic control of the color temperature as well as the overall luminosity of the LED Lamp. Both blue and red chips are controlled by a quantum dimmer.
