Abstract: An elastic strap, housed in a well in the upper surface of a surfboard, is pulled on by a surfer to press the surfboard against his feet to facilitate doing aerials with the surfboard. When pulled by the surfer the strap has a length, in elonagated condition, sufficient for the surfer to hold the strap while standing. The well is located rearward of the center of the surfboard in the area where the surfer stands and the well extends longitudinally of the surfboard. The strap is secured by Velcro fasteners to rods secured in the well and the strap is secured to and wrapped around at least three rods so that the strap can be longer than if its ends were simply secured in the ends of the wall. A pliable handle is located centrally of the strap. A cover removably fits over the well so that the strap and handle are covered when not in use.
Abstract: The putter has a head with a downwardly open cavity and a plate closing the cavity and secured by screws. The club head has a top opening at its heel end and the plate has a through opening in its toe end. The shaft has an extension at its lower end including a first portion bent to pass downwardly through the top portion, a second portion slanting downwardly between the openings, and a third portion extending downwardly into the through opening where it is welded in place. The shaft is of smaller diameters at locations near where it passes through the openings. The shaft is smaller than the top opening so that the shaft can flex within the top opening and give upon initial impact with the golf ball and then later recoil against the golf ball.
Abstract: In a spa having a tank for body immersion, a flexible tube exhausting pressurized water into the tank having a free end adapted to whip usually in a vertical plane by reaction of the exhausting water. The tube has a cross-section with flattened upper and lower surfaces so the tube bends easier in the vertical plane and whips in a reciprocating motion in the vertical plane. Upper and lower limits on tube travel are formed by roller abutments that are supported by a housing. The housing has a series of holes in which the rollers are journaled extending in lines generally parallel to the tube so that the rollers can be changed in location in order to relocate upper and lower tube bending and reversing points as needed to produce effective whipping action of the tube.
Abstract: A sprinkler, connected to a water supply conduit, oscillates by the force of a piston moving in a cylinder and powered by water bleed in a bypass line from the water supply to the cylinder. The piston is connected to a rack which is engaged with a pinion that is attached to a sprinkler nozzle so that water is sprayed from the nozzle in an oscillating spray responsive to the reciprocation of the piston in the cylinder. A first compression spring is operative to return the piston to a home position after a power stroke. The piston has a discharge passageway covered by a valve piece on the pressure side of the piston. The valve piece is supported by a stem slidably disposed in a bore in the piston. A head is fitted to the opposite end of the stem and a tripper compression spring is aligned with the head so that as the piston expands the head compresses the tripper spring until the force of the tripper spring overcomes the water pressure holding the valve piece closed.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for cutting hair of a person with a toothed curve about nine inches long which becomes a template at fixed locations during hair cutting determining the length and shape of the cut and using an electric clipper to make all of the cuts using the curve back as a guide, the curve having a simple curvature arced relative to a centrally located axis parallel to and spaced from the axes of the teeth of the curve. Cutting on the concave or the convex face of the curve. Supplying a plurality of curves arced on different radiuses, the curves with lesser radiuses removing more weight of hair than curves with larger radiuses. Providing a variable speed control for the clipper and providing blades with more or less teeth per inch to provide in operations like feathering a blade with less teeth per inch driven at a lower speed. Adjacent tooth surfaces on the curve being roughened to grip hair.
Abstract: Support in a closet including a rack and a multiplicity of arms on each side of the rack for storage of neckties and belts. The rack and arms are disposed in an oblique plane preferably disposed about 30.degree. to the vertical and slanting downwardly as it extends outwardly relative to the closet backwall to facilitate viewing of the articles, which hang from the arms in vertical planes spaced from one another. The rack is preferably supported by hanging from a clothes support rod which extends from end to end of the closet. Instead, the rack can be supported from a vertical wall or from the underside of a shelf in the closet. The support can be formed from wood, metal, plastics and/or wire. The arms are cantilevered from the rack and have abutments at their ends to prevent articles from becoming dislodged from the arms.
Abstract: A system to process employee and job data, in a shop having a number of mechanic employees and a number of machines, including at least a first employee-input station, a second timekeeping station, and a third management station. A printer and a computer at the second station includes a program in the computer calculating from employee clocking of time and jobs the employee hours, the time spent on each job, accumulated job hours, and percentages of completions of jobs. Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) displays and keyboards are at each station. The keyboards at the first and third stations being special purpose keyboards primarily concerning employee clock-in and clock-out on each job and several cost-class keys that can be associated with various jobs. The program computes different costs on jobs depending on the use of cost-class keys. The first station has a listing of jobs and employees by character.
Abstract: A yarn dispenser having upper and lower rollers feeding yarn from a skein. The upper roller is pivoted to the side for insertion and removal of yarn. The upper roller has a part of its central circumference recessed so as to free yarn one time in each rotation of the upper roller, to thereby prevent balling of the yarn. A miniature, 1.5 V battery powered motor powers the rollers via an O-ring belt drive. A foot controlled switch is used in the electrical circuit. The yarn dispenser can be mounted in a briefcase sized receptacle by snap fasteners or may be removed, in which case the dispenser can be supported above a supporting surface on a removable cover on which the base rests.
Abstract: A trailer coupler having a ball-receiving cavity formed by a stationary and a movable ball-gripping member. A movable abutment at the edge of the cavity adapted to be displaced by the ball of a towing vehicle hitch entering the ball-receiving cavity. Before the movable abutment is displaced, it prevents movement of the coupler operating handle to locked position. When the movable abutment is displaced, the operating handle is able to move to locked position and to move the movable ball-gripping member to secure the ball in the ball-receiving cavity. A latch securing the operating handle in locked position until a movable latch piece is moved to unlatched position.
Abstract: The weight of a pivoted body is counterbalanced by a spring acting on a cam connected to that body to pivot therewith. A band, connected to that spring, attaches to the cam and wraps around the cam. The cam's profile is contoured to produce moment arms of various lengths, through which the force of the spring acts, balancing the variable torque of the weight of the pivoted body.
Abstract: A system to chlorinate swimming pool water including one or more buckets containing sodium hypochlorite solution. The valve having a stationary part with a downwardly open cavity and a rotatable part rotatably mounted in the cavity. The stationary part having multiple ports and the rotatable part having a mating through passage. The ports being interposed in a line from the bucket to a swimming pool water recirculating pump so that flow of the sodium hypochlorite solution from the bucket to the pump only occurs when the through passage registers with the diametrically opposed ports. A battery-powered clock motor and reduction gearing connected to the clock motor and to the rotatable part and the reduction gearing rotating the rotatable part 180.degree.
Abstract: A holster formed by two identical sandwiched blanks sewn together. The holster has an open front except for a low forward wall. The holster has an inner wall with a rigid upstanding thumb release and the holster has an outer wall with a flexible retaining strap and snap members releasably securing together the thumb release and the strap. The blanks in flat condition before being folded into a holster having a slotted ear at each end that are superposed and sewn together to form a rear holster ear to secure to a belt. In the flat condition of the blanks, the low forward wall connects together the inner and outer holster walls and a forward slotted holster ear extending from the inner holster wall, above the low forward wall, to secure to a belt. A metal liner sheet between the sandwiched blanks and extending substantially the complete area of the blanks except for the margins to be sewn together and except for the flexible retaining strap.
