  • Patent number: 4740307
Abstract: An automatic pool vacuum unit is connected to a skimmer housing by a vacuum housing fitted in an inverted U-shaped opening in the skimmer weir, open to the bottom of the weir. In order to avoid interfering with normal pivoting of the buoyant weir by the vacuum housing, the housing in planes at right angles to the pivotal axis of the weir has upper outlines that are arcuate about that axis, and the vacuum housing has an outline matching the outline of the inverted U-shaped opening in planes through the weir pivotal axis, so that the vacuum housing substantially fits and substantially seals the weir opening as the weir pivots. A removable cover over the debris-collecting basket in the skimmer housing has an opening connecting with the vacuum housing and an adjustable opening for skimmer water spilling over the top of the weir. The vacuum housing is removably secured to the cover to facilitate removal of the debris collecting basket.

  • Patent number: 4670622
Abstract: Solar energy conversion apparatus including a rotatable converter with a core that is triangular in cross-section and tapers towards its ends. A multiplicity of hemispherical photovoltaic cells are supported on the sides of the core. Two metal foil layers insulated from each other are connected to different conductivity type portions of the cells, the outer foil layer being reflective. A glass shell covers the core and tapers toward each end. The shell has a dodecagonal cross-section with four facets overlying each side of the core, alternate facets being left uncovered and transparent and the other facets being silvered, thus forming reflective interior surfaces for reflection of sunlight entering the shell. A parabolic reflector directs sunlight on an end of the converter. A stationary housing concentric about the converter has a reflective inner surface in first and second end sections parallel to the taperings of the shell. The housing is divided into three sections each containing a field winding.

  • Patent number: 4663057
Abstract: A chlorine injector for a swimming pool including a cylinder of chlorine, a disperser tube near the bottom of the pool, and a transfer tube therebetween. The disperser tube is formed of a fluorinated elastomer and has a multiplicity of discharge orifices formed by needle punctures normally closed but opening up responsive to pressure. A pressure regulator between the cylinder and the transfer tube having ports in contact with chlorine gas made of fluorinated material. Addition of chlorine to the pool being controlled by time of injection with constant pressure set by the pressure regulator and by fixed sizes of discharge orifices formed by the punctures under that constant pressure. Disk spacers supporting the disperser tube above the pool bottom.

  • Patent number: 4630622
Abstract: A foam roller around which hair is tightly wound and clamped in place having a fabric sleeve interposed between the foam and the hair reducing the coefficient of friction to below 1.00 and preferably under 0.900, as compared to foam coefficient of friction substantially above 1.00, in order to reduce hair breakage by facilitating hair slippage to adjust to roller re-expansion pressure. The plastic tube supporting the foam roller made of resilient, flexible material to be more comfortable when subjected to head weight when the user reclines.

Abstract: Bicycle exercising apparatus is provided by a standard bicycle having its rear wheel supported by a stand and by a flywheel having its side tensed against the rear tire to be driven by the rear tire to provide drag. The stand adjusts drag by changing the distance between the axis of rotation of the flywheel and the plane of the rear wheel. The stand includes a pair of struts pivotally attached to the stand and having a vee supporting relationship to the bicycle hub both in side and top views of the assembly. One strut of each pair has a telescopically adjustable arm supporting cup-shaped fittings engaging the nuts at the ends of the axle bolts of the rear wheel.
