Abstract: A substrate for integrated circuit package is disclosed. The substrate comprises an electrically conductive leadframe having a first side and an opposing second side. The substrate has a first bonding compound disposed in a first recessed portion of the first side and a second bonding compound disposed in at least a portion of a second recessed portion of the leadframe, selectively exposing a selected area of the leadframe on the second side. In an exemplary embodiment, the second bonding compound is a photolithographic material. A method of manufacturing a substrate for integrated circuit package is also disclosed.

Abstract: A blood pressure measurement and reminder system comprising a blood pressure measuring unit, a reminder unit, and an input unit is disclosed. The system is configured to transmit reminder signal(s) noticeable to its users for alerting them to take blood pressure measurement within a pre-determined measurement time schedule, and send confirmation signal(s) to the reminder unit to switch off the reminder state once the user has successfully taken a blood pressure measurement.

Abstract: An herbal composition comprises an extract of Radix Rehmanniae, and an extract of Poria, Ganoderma Lucidum, Semen Ziziphi Spinosae, Semen Platycladi, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Et Rhizoma Salviae Miltiorrhizae, Rhizoma Chuanxiong, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Fructus Gardeniae, Cortex Moutan, Radix Bupleuri, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Rhizoma Cyperi, Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae, Fructus Aurantii, Radix Glycyrrhizae, and Os Draconis. The herbal composition is prepared by separately extracting Radix Rehmanniae, and the remaining herbs. The composition is suitable for treatment of insomnia and other related disorders.

Abstract: A method and system for container identification are disclosed. The method comprises obtaining a plurality of digital images of a character sequence on the container, extracting the character sequences from the images, combining the character sequences into at least one identification code candidate, and selecting one of the candidates as the identification code. The system comprises at least one camera and a computer system that is electrically coupled to the camera, whereby when the computer system receives a trigger signal, said computer system takes a plurality of digital images from the camera, produces character sequences as partial recognition results for the plurality of digital images, and combines the partial recognition results together to produce the identification code.

Abstract: A semiconductor including a selectively plated lead frame is disclosed. The lead frame contains a die pad and a plurality of lead fingers, where each lead finger is formed with a bonding pad on the center portion of the lead finger by selective plating. The surface area of the lead finger material is increased so the adhesion to molding material is improved. The edges of the lead finger tips are half etched to further increase the surface area of lead finger material. A method of manufacturing the lead frame is also provided.

Abstract: A pneumatic card transport system is disclosed. The system is configured to use pressurized air to transport a card inserted to a conveying duct inside a card passageway assembly from a first end to a second end. Air nozzles are configured to release the pressurized airstreams at an angle relative to the conveying duct so that the card is essentially floating when traveling along the conveying duct. Hence, the card makes zero or minimum contact with the inner surface of the conveying duct. This will not only reduce the wear and tear of the card, but also reduces the traveling time inside the conveying duct.

Abstract: Data retrieval apparatus comprises a base unit e.g. a geographic globe having a surface bearing a set of index information, and a pen-like operator separate from and co-operable wirelessly with the globe. The operator has a sensor for sensing the index information when it is brought close to the globe surface, a memory device for storing data information associated with the index information for retrieval based on a reference to the index information sensed by the sensor, a controller for retrieving said data information from the memory device by reference to the index information sensed by the sensor, and a speaker for announcing said data information retrieved by the controller.

Abstract: A waterproof electronic recording device with a display panel is disclosed. In an embodiment, a housing of the electronic recording device is cylindrical in shape with an electronic display module having a display panel disposed at a back end of the housing. A latch encloses the electronic display module and the display panel is disposed substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the housing in a waterproof configuration. In another embodiment, the latch is hingedly connected to the housing, and a lock is provided to connect the latch to the housing in a waterproof configuration.

Abstract: The invention discloses a method for controlling a power car window lift. The method includes the following steps: detecting an operation state signal of the car window with a detection element; inputting the detection signal of the detection element into the controller; and the controller sending a control signal to an actuator, which controls the operation state of the car window lift. The main control element of the controller is a thyristor or an equivalent functional element. The car window lift's operation state signal includes a car window closed obstacle signal, a car window closed-in-place signal, a car window opened-in-place signal, and a car window opened obstacle signal. The invention further discloses a device for implementing the method for controlling the power car window.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for counting exercise repetitions are provided for counting exercise repetition even when an exerciser attaches the apparatus in different places and along different orientations of his or her body. The apparatus and method utilizes acceleration data along at least three axes and determines that a valid step is taken by the exerciser if at least one of acceleration profiles falls within at least one of pre-defined thresholds. Moreover, a method of identifying an optimal axis for exercise repetition measurement is disclosed by comparing the acceleration profiles of previous steps with amplitude, cycle and rhythm thresholds.

Abstract: In one aspect, an embodiment of an IC package includes an IC chip electrically connected to a substrate, a heatspreader disposed over the IC chip, wherein the heatspreader does not directly contact the IC chip, and an encapsulant material encapsulating at least a portion of the IC chip and a portion of the heatspreader such that a top portion of the heatspreader is exposed to the surroundings of the IC package. In another embodiment, the heatspreader comprises at least one castellation to improve adhesion to the encapsulation compound. A method of manufacturing such IC package is also disclosed.

Abstract: A portable alarm transmitter for compliance monitoring detects whether a user is wearing the device. If not, a special alarm signal is sent to the monitoring service provider so that remedial actions can be taken. The alarm transmitter comprises a motion sensor, and an algorithm thereby for detecting whether the alarm device is being worn by the user. The alarm transmitter distinguish between non-compliance (e.g. user has taken off the alarm device) versus other “activities of daily living (ADL) that may appear to be non-compliance events (e.g. sleeping) by incorporating user stimulus and user response.
