Abstract: Techniques, systems and computer readable medium are disclosed for measuring a position of an object device. A position measuring apparatus includes a receiving unit designed to receive a signal transmitted from an object device for position measurement. The position measuring apparatus also includes a position computing unit designed to compute a position of the object device by applying Angle Of Arrival (AOA) and Time Of Arrival (TOA) techniques using the received signal. The position measuring apparatus also includes a medium channel estimating unit designed to estimate a channel of a medium, through which the received signal penetrates on a transmission path, using the received signal. The position measuring apparatus also includes a position correcting unit configured to compute a delay time caused by the received signal penetrating the medium using the estimated medium channel and correcting the position of the object device computed by the position computing unit using the delay time.
Abstract: The invention pertains to a human N-type calcium channel isoform, h?1B+SFVG, which is involved in central nervous system signaling, and nucleic acids relating thereto. The present invention also includes fragments and biologically functional variants of the human h?1B+SFVG channel. Also included are human N-type calcium channel h?1B+SFVG subunit inhibitors which inhibit human N-type calcium channel h?1B+SFVG subunit activity by inhibiting the expression or function of human N-type calcium channel h?1B+SFVG subunit. The invention further relates to methods of using such nucleic acids, polypeptides, and inhibitors in the treatment and/or diagnosis of disease, such as in methods for treating stroke, pain, e.g., neuropathic pain, and traumatic brain injury.
Abstract: The image processing apparatus according to the present invention includes: a segmentation process section for performing a segmentation process with respect to image data corresponding to an image to be processed; first and second input tone correction sections each of which performs a density correction process with respect to the image data by referring to a conversion curve which indicates a relation between density before correction and density after correction; and a processing mode control section for switching between (i) a first processing mode in which the segmentation process is performed with respect to the image data having been subjected to the density correction process and (ii) a second processing mode in which the segmentation process is performed with respect to image data having not been subjected to the density correction process. Therefore, the image processing apparatus can perform the segmentation process with high accuracy.
Abstract: A storage medium managing device is provided which can employ a set of management information containing suitable information from a plural sets of management information contained in the storage medium. An optical disc apparatus (1) manages an optical disc (2) having a plurality of management areas for containing management information with which data is managed and which is recorded in the management areas in a predetermined sequence. The apparatus includes a management information retrieving section (52) for reading the management information in the same sequence as the predetermined recording sequence to retrieve primary management information which is management information that is first retrieved normally.
Abstract: Depending on processing to be executed, the processing is prevented from being restricted even if a particular image is included in image data. There is provided an image processing apparatus comprising an authentication section 67 which distinguishes a user; a particular-image judgment section 63 which detects particular images from inputted image data and judges whether or not the number of the particular images exceeds a threshold; and a threshold determination section 66 which determines a threshold according to the user and processing to be executed; and a control section 7 which restricts the processing to be executed when the number of the particular images exceeds the threshold. Depending on the importance degree of the security of the processing to be executed, the threshold determination section 66 lowers the threshold as the importance degree is higher and raises the threshold as the importance degree is lower.
Abstract: When three-dimensional images are displayed on various display apparatuses, the images are displayed in a state that allows for stereoscopic vision even if the size of the display apparatus is large or even if the resolution of the display apparatus is low. The apparatus includes: a decision means for deciding based on the standard information contained in the control information whether the amount of parallax on the display screen when three-dimensional image data is displayed is greater than the amount of parallax on the optimal display apparatus for displaying the three-dimensional image data; and an image processing means for implementing an image process for changing the amount of parallax, and adjusts the amount of parallax of three-dimensional images in accordance with the ratio between the pitch between dots of the standard display apparatus for displaying three-dimensional images and the pitch between dots of an own terminal.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a free radical initiator and a method for peptide sequencing using the same. Compared with diazo or peroxy functionalized precursors, the precursors using the present compounds are chemically more robust and can generate radical species by homolytic cleavage upon thermal activation, enabling sequencing of a wider variety of peptides. In addition, the present invention makes it feasible to sequence peptides carrying disulfide bonds.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a volume phase hologram recording material excellent in transparency, sensitivity, low curing shrinkage, and transparency, a volume phase hologram recording medium, and a volume phase hologram. A photosensitive resin composition for volume phase hologram recording contains a low-molecular-weight solvent-soluble aromatic copolymer (A) having a structural unit of a divinyl aromatic compound and a structural unit of a monovinyl aromatic compound, a photoradical polymerizable compound (B) which is copolymerizable with the soluble aromatic copolymer (A), and a photopolymerization initiator (C) as essential components. The photosensitive resin composition further contains, one kind or more of a polymer binder (D) and a plasticizer (E), and the soluble aromatic copolymer (A) is incorporated in an amount of 5 to 60% by weight.
Abstract: The disclosure provides a method to form sustained release drug-containing microparticles with a biodegradable polymer. The method involves forming a polymer-drug-organic solvent phase, and dispersing the polymer-drug-organic solvent phase in an aqueous suspension of an inorganic gel, which may be hydroxyapatite. The hydroxyapatite appears to coat the polymer-drug-solvent droplets to prevent them coalescing. The solvent then evaporates with stirring of the dispersion, at which time the droplets solidify to drug-containing microparticles. The inorganic gel allows suitably small microparticles to form without use of an organic emulsifier.
