Abstract: The invention provides chimeric proteins and nucleic acids encoding these which can be used to generate vaccines against selected antigens. In one aspect, a chimeric protein comprises an antigen sequence and a domain for trafficking the protein to an endosomal compartment, irrespective of whether the antigen is derived from a membrane or non-membrane protein. In one preferred aspect, the trafficking domain comprises a lumenal domain of a LAMP polypeptide. Alternatively, or additionally, the chimeric protein comprises a trafficking domain of an endocytic receptor (e.g., such as DEC-205 or gp200-MR6). The vaccines (DNA, RNA or protein) can be used to modulate or enhance an immune response against any kind of antigen. In one preferred aspect, the invention provides a method for treating a patient with cancer by providing a chimeric protein comprising a cancer-specific antigen or a nucleic acid encoding the protein to the patient.

The building space is defined by the frame (1) and a platform (2) inside the frame (1), wherein the frame (1) comprises at the inner side facing the building space glass ceramic plates.
Abstract: Inhibition of HIV-1 replication by disrupting the processing of the viral Gag capsid (CA) protein (p24) from the CA-spacer peptide 1 (SP1) protein precursor (p25) is disclosed. Amino acid sequences containing a mutation in the Gag p25 protein, with the mutation resulting in a decrease in the inhibition of processing of p25 to p24 by dimethylsuccinyl betulinic acid or dimethylsuccinyl betulin, polynucleotides encoding such mutated sequences and antibodies that selectively bind such mutated sequences are also included. Methods of inhibiting, inhibitory compounds and methods of discovering inhibitory compounds that target proteolytic processing of the HIV Gag protein are included. In one embodiment, such compounds inhibit the interaction of the HIV protease enzyme with Gag by binding to the Gag proteolytic cleavage site rather than to the protease enzyme.

Abstract: A multi-point injector includes an annular body defining an interior annular flow passage. The annular body includes a fluid inlet and a plurality of circumferentially spaced apart fluid outlets in fluid communication with the interior flow passage. Each of the outlets has a swirl chamber formed within the annular body associated therewith for imparting swirl to fluid delivered thereto.
Abstract: The conventional micropump and the conventional micromixer have the following problems. In a mechanical or hydrodynamic method, the structure of the inside of a flow path is complex so as to easily cause clogging, and manufacturing cost is high, and dead volume is large. Additionally, in an electrical method, the conventional micropump or the conventional micromixer was incapable of operating with a liquid having the concentration of a physiological saline that is important in the medical or biological field although the structure of the flow path is simple. These problems are solved by applying an AC voltage to a pair of electrodes in which an electrode-to-electrode gap between the pair of electrodes is vertically arranged and by generating the flow of a fluid in the direction opposite to gravity along the electrode-to-electrode gap.
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for controlling motor position and creep of an electric vehicle, in which when a running vehicle is stopped, motor position control for maintaining the vehicle in the stopped position even when a brake pedal is released is performed, and then creep torque control is performed such that the vehicle is prevented from rolling backwards and suddenly starting when the vehicle is restarted after a stop on a slope.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to mixers for viscometers and methods of using the same. Such inventions are applicable, for example, to industrial processes such as printing. One embodiment of the invention is directed to a viscosity control system including a viscosity sensor, a mixing element, a shaft fixedly attached to the mixing element, and an actuator interfacing with the viscosity sensor and the shaft. The annular mixing element is oscillatable about an axis lying in a plane tangent to a point on a wall of the mixing element. The shaft is centered about the axis. The actuator receives a signal from the viscosity sensor and rotates the shaft and the mixing element in an oscillating manner about the axis. In some embodiments, the shaft rotates through an angle of less than 360 degrees.
Abstract: The present invention features a recombinant DNA molecule which, upon expression in a prokaryotic or eukaryotic host cell, encodes a polypeptide having phytase activity. In preferred embodiments, the recombinant DNA molecule comprises a DNA sequence selected from DNA sequences which have been obtained by variations of the mature wild-type E. coli phytase sequence, wherein at least one amino acid at position 200 or position 207 is mutated as compared to the wild-type sequence, where the recombinant DNA molecule is, upon expression in a suitable host cell, associated with an increased activity of the thus encoded protein in the culture supernatant.
Abstract: Mammogram images are processed by computer to derive automatically a value for a parameter useful in detecting differences in breast tissue in subsequent images of the same breast or relative to a control group of such images, said derived parameter being a parameter that changes alongside changes in breast density and is hence useful in assessing cancer risk. The method comprises the steps of processing each image of at least part of a breast by: computing for pixels of the image a quotient value representative of the aspect ratio of tissue structures depicted in the image; using a trained classifier to classify said pixels according to their respective said quotient values and assigning a score to the respective pixels representing their classification with respect to at least two classes; deriving said parameter that changes alongside changes in breast density based on the aggregate pixel membership scores of said classes.

Abstract: A semiconductor substrate is anodized to be shaped into an optical lens. Prior to being anodized, the substrate is finished with an anode pattern on its bottom surface so as to be consolidated into a unitary structure in which the anode pattern is precisely reproduced on the substrate. The anodization utilizes an electrolytic solution which etches out oxidized portion as soon as it is formed as a result of the anodization, to thereby develop a porous layer in a pattern in match with the anode pattern. The anode pattern brings about an in-plane distribution of varying electric field intensity by which the porous layer develops into a shape complementary to a desired lens profile. Upon completion of the anodization, the semiconductor substrate is shaped into the lens by etching out the porous layer and the anode pattern from the substrate.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus is provided that makes it possible to visually identify whether or not additional information is added to image data to be output in a screen in which a preview is displayed easily. The image forming apparatus is provided with an image display portion such as a touch panel for displaying a preview of image data and is capable of outputting such as printing the image data with additional information added thereto. When image data to be output is output with additional information added thereto, a digital multi-functional peripheral synthesizes an existence image showing an existence of the additional information, instead of the additional information, with a preview image to display on the image display portion in displaying the preview image.
