Patent number: 5985395Abstract: An incise drape suitable for use in surgical procedures. The drape comprises a substantially transparent flexible film that has at least a portion of one major surface coated or covered with a pressure sensitive adhesive, and a two liners removably covering the adhesive. Each liner has a handle spaced from the opposite side edges of the film, and a body portion attached to the handle. The body portion of each liner extends along the adhesive from handle in the direction away from the other liner. The drape is repeatedly folded over from the opposite side edges of the film toward the handles so that the drape may be unfolded and the adhesive exposed by pulling the handles apart.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 1997Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Kristen L. Patent number: 5979450Abstract: A surgical incise drape including a flexible film having a leading edge and a trailing edge, and a film handle applied at the leading edge of the flexible film. A liner substantially covers the major portion of the flexible film, which is coated with an adhesive. The liner may include a liner handle at the leading edge, and one of the liner handle and film handle are of a size for wrapping about at least a portion of the drape when the drape is in a folded configuration. A tensioning strip may be applied to the liner at a position away from the leading edge of the liner to hold at least a portion of the flexible film lying between the film handle and the tensioning strip in a wrinkle-free state when the liner is being removed from the major portion of the flexible film. Further, the liner may be stiff relative to the flexible film such that the liner and the film handle hold the flexible film in a wrinkle-free state when the liner is being removed from the major portion of the flexible film.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 1998Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Dennis L. Baker, John E. Bruno, Patricia A. Eull, Dietmar Schlei, Matthew T. Scholz

Patent number: 5944758Abstract: A proximal humeral prosthesis that is particularly designed for treating a fractured humerus. The prosthesis comprises a head corresponding to the humeral head of a patient, and a stem having a proximal end to which the head is mounted. The prosthesis has a central plane coincident with the longitudinal axis of the stem about which it has a mirror axis of symmetry. One, or preferably pair of, projecting ribs are positioned at or near the proximal end of the stem adjacent the head. The projecting ribs are offset in opposite directions relative to the center plane at substantially identical offset angles (e.g., about 20.degree. to about 40.degree.) approximating the greater or lesser tuberosity of the humerus. Also disclosed is a method of treating a fractured humerus with this prosthesis.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1997Date of Patent: August 31, 1999Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Michel Mansat, Otto Sneppen, Ian G. Patent number: 5931792Abstract: A stethoscope with a chestpiece which has two microphones oriented at a very obtuse angle to each other. The user of the stethoscope can switch from one microphone to the other with just a slight tilt of the hand. In preferred embodiments, no special action needs to be taken to activate the selected microphone as merely touching it to the patient's body selects it for activation.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 1997Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventors: Thomas J. Patent number: 5921242Abstract: A sheet drape is folded first in one direction into a multilayer strip of material and then in the orthogonal direction into a stack with a first end of the multilayer length located on top of the stack and the second end located within the stack. The drape is unfolded by pulling the first end of the multilayer length in a first direction, to reveal the second end; pulling the second end in the second, opposite, direction (thereby returning to the form of the multilayer strip); and then opening the folds of the multilayer strip.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1997Date of Patent: July 13, 1999Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventor: Charles L.
