  • Patent number: 5550944
Abstract: A fibre optic coupling assembly includes a coupling assembly comprised of a spring loaded coupling lock which locks to fibre connectors together by way of spring balls located in locking grooves. The forward movement of the coupling locks, against the spring pressure of the spring, allows the disengagement of the two fibre connectors. The fibre connector has a connector housing with a crimp sleeve and an outer coupling nut. The coupling nut is threadably received over the rear end of the connector housing. The combination of the coupling nut and the crimp sleeve provides for strain relief of the fibre cable as well as pushes the fibre forward due to the radial contraction of the crimp sleeve, thereby gripping the outer insulation of the cable, and forcing the entire cable further forward upon further rotation of the coupling nut.

  • Patent number: 5516984
Abstract: An insulating housing for mounting in a mating female connector housing of an electrical connector, whereby the insulating housing is a two-piece construction including a housing member which receives a cover therein. The cover comprises a strain relief member which, in a preferred embodiment, is integrally formed as part of the cover and which comprises a plurality of teeth. When the cover is mounted in the insulating housing, the strain relief member may be pivoted from an unlocked to a locked position, whereupon the plurality of teeth bite into the insulation of the insulated wires, thereby relieving strain on the insulated wires.

  • Patent number: 5496183
Abstract: Module terminals comprising a column of right angle contacts are assembled to a housing module for receiving post header terminals at one end and inserted into complimentary holes of a printed circuit board on the other end. Interposed between adjacent terminal modules are shielding members that serve to limit crosstalk between adjacent rows of contacts. The shielding members are attached to over-moulded insulative webs of the terminal module and are resiliently biased thereagainst so that they ensure good contact of an integral grounding pin with one of the right angle contacts of the terminal module and also to ensure a flush fit of the grounding shield against the terminal module.

  • Patent number: 5470260
Abstract: An electrical connector for electrically connecting to conducting circuit traces on a card, includes contact wheels rotatably mounted on resilient cantilever arms. The wheels project into a card receiving slot of the connector such that when the card is inserted therein, the wheel contacts are resiliently biased out of the slot to press against a surface of the card, whereby further insertion thereof causes the contact wheels to roll over the surface of the card thereby avoiding rubbing of the contact surfaces whilst nevertheless maintaining suitable contact pressure.

  • Patent number: 5462454
Abstract: A boardlock for securely connecting an electrical device or connector to a printed circuit board without requiring post-soldering thereof, is shown comprising a pair of rigid arms joined at the lower end by a thinner bridge section. The boardlock is a flat unitary edge-stamped sheet metal part that is insertable through a hole of a printed circuit board such that the bridge portion extends below the printed circuit board and whereby outer portions thereof, extend outwardly of the hole for provisionally holding the boardlock to the printed circuit board. A die comprising an elongate slot of slightly greater thickness than the boardlock, can be engaged against the bridge portion for permanent plastic deformation thereof. The die has a convex bottomed surface in order to arc the deformed bridge portion towards the printed circuit board in order to enhance the mechanical resistance of the boardlock with respect to an upwards pulling force thereon.
