  • Patent number: 5011424
Abstract: An electrical connector is disclosed which comprises an inner shielded body having two hinges stamped from the sidewalls thereof. Spring latching arms are rotatably connected to the hinges and comprise forward portions which include latching surfaces which latch the connector to a complementary connector. The latching arms further comprise, rearward of the hinge, surfaces which converge from front to rear. The outer housing includes an internal camming surface adjacent to the converging surfaces on the spring arms. The housing is axially movable relative to the inner shielded body, thereby to rotate the latch arms and unlatch the connector.

  • Patent number: 4970778
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a rotary jaw assembly which is movable along a first axis between two rows of connectors and along a second axis to grasp a selected connector and then to retract, after which the jaw assembly is rotatable about a third axis to change the endwise orientation of the connector grasped by the assembly. This connector is then passed by a push rod to a cover separating station at which the cover is separated from the body of the connector. Further push rods transfer the connector body and the cover to a turntable to rotate them about a vertical axis, and yet further push rods transfers the connector and the cover to an application station at which they are applied to a cable. Each connector can be thus applied to cable in four different orientations connector and the cover to an application station at which they are applied to a cable. Each connector can be thus applied to cable in four different orientations.

  • Patent number: 4957453
Abstract: An electrical socket for mounting on a flat, flexible conductor carrier (FFC), for connecting an electrical plug (P) to a conductor (C) on the conductor carrier (FFC), comprises a base plate having a central plug receiving opening. A pair of contact springs extend from opposite edges of the base plate and have arcuate contact surfaces which project across the opening on one face of the plate for resiliently engaging the plug (P) between them. On each side of the opening is a pair of lugs depending from the other face of the plate and being adapted to be passed through the conductor carrier (FFC) and curled round towards each other to make electrical contact with the conductor (C). In use, the plug (P) is passed through the opening in a direction normally of the plane of the base plate, and through the conductor carrier (FFC).

  • Patent number: 4934967
Abstract: An electrical socket for interconnecting a pin grid array to a printed circuit board includes an insulative housing having a plurality of apertures extending between upper and lower faces, the socket apertures have disposed therein, terminals for receiving the pins of the pin grid array in an electrically interconnected condition. A pin receiving portion of the terminal includes a circular band portion with resilient contact arms extending downwardly therefrom. The band portion includes a seam which allows for the expansion of the seam to relieve the stress in the band cuased by the deflection of the contact arms. The center of the circular band portion is also moveable to allow the pin receiving portion to realign itself to allow the reception of misaligned pins.

  • Patent number: 4927384
Abstract: A transition block for interconnecting flat undercarpet power cable to round conductor power cable has stackable terminal blocks each having an electrical terminal mounted therein. The conductors of the multiconductor power cable can be separated and folded such that each cable is vertically aligned with the other. Insertion of the cable into the terminal blocks and forcing the terminal blocks together causes an insulation displacement portion within the terminal block to pierce the insulation of the flat cable. A poke through type terminal is mounted adjacent to, and electrically continuous with, the insulation displacement portion for electrically interconnecting flat cable to round cable. The assembled terminal blocks are profiled for installation within the standard wall mounted junction box.

  • Patent number: 4925007
Abstract: The lead parking and sorting station is for receiving electrical leads (L), especially those which differ from one another and for presenting the leads for pick up by a block loading station. The parking and sorting station comprises a pair of ganged jaw wheels (12 and 16) each having lead gripping jaws (13). The jaw wheels (12 and 16) can be swung to move each jaw wheel ( 12 and 16) between a lead loading position (LP) and a lead sorting and discharge position (DP). When in its loading position (LP), each jaw wheel (12 and 16) is driven by a unidirectional stepping motor (14) in constantly spaced steps, to pick up a lead (L) at each step. When it has been loaded with leads (L) each jaw wheel (12 and 16) is swung to its sorting and discharge position (DP) where it is driven by a bidirectional stepping motor (18), in steps, the length and direction of which are determined by a pre-arranged harness making program, the leads being picked up by the block loading station at a pick up position (PP).

  • Patent number: 4886470
Abstract: An integrated circuit package socket includes an insulating housing having a plurality of side by side terminals profiled for receipt of a square package with leads extending therefrom. The socket also includes a camming member disposed above the housing which has a camming surface which contacts a portion of each of the terminals to move the terminals into and out of electrical engagement with the leads of the package. The camming member multiplies the force applied directly to the camming member to cause the desired rotation. Relaxation of the camming member causes a reverse rotation of the contacts into electrical engagement with the package leads.
