Abstract: A glioblastoma derived angiogenesis inhibiting factor is described. The material is induced in presence of wild type p53, but not by several mutated forms of p53. Various uses of the material are described.

Abstract: An alternating-current source (2) is connected to two cathodes (6,7) which cooperate electrically with targets which are sputtered in a gas discharge while a process gas is introduced in a vacuum chamber (15). Abstract: A silica glass member shows a glassy carbon coating wherein a surface of a silica glass substrate of the silica glass member shows a mean surface roughness (R.sub.a) in a range of 0.03 .mu.m to 2 .mu.m and it is coated with a glassy carbon coating. The member is manufactured by chemically roughening the substrate to a surface roughness in the above recited range; coating the surface of the silica glass substrate with an organic raw material containing carbon, curing and thereafter carbonizing the film of the organic raw material by forming a glassy carbon coating.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and reagent for the specific determination of the LDL fraction in the presence of other serum lipoproteins by adding a water soluble polymeric LDL-aggregating agent and a zwitterionic and/or non-ionic detergent. The LDL aggregate is determined in a direct turbidimetric measurement. Preferred LDL-aggregating agents are polyanions having a branched structure with acid groups, particularly branched alkane sulfonic acid groups as side branches. Preferred detergents are those known as "Zwittergent".
Abstract: A seating surface part and a backrest part are connected to each other in such a way that they can pivot around an axis and thus be folded together into a collapsed position. Retaining belts are provided for the seating surface part and to the backrest part, which has a spacer device on the outside surface facing away from the seating surface side. This spacer device projects out beyond the outside surface of the backrest part when the seat is in use. A retaining device which can be connected to an adult seating unit is provided on the backrest part.
Abstract: A plurality of finger-like grippers (12, 13, 14) pivotably supported in a housing (4, 5), and a plunger or piston (7) with a head part (8a) acting on the grippers (12, 13, 4), the piston being supported in such a way that it is free to slide in the housing (4). The grippers are held and guided in openings (17, 18) in the top part (5) of the housing (4) and can pivot about axes transverse to the longitudinal axis (L) of the housing (4, 5), where the pivot axes (a, b, c) of all the grippers are in the same plane (e) and together form a regular polygon surrounding the longitudinal axis (L). The ends of the grippers (12, 13, 14) facing the piston (7) are surrounded as a group by a ring of elastic material or by a garter spring (15), which pulls them toward stop surfaces (4b), which limit the pivoting movement.

Abstract: The invention involves isolated nucleic acid molecules which encode antigens which have been associated with renal carcinoma. The molecule having the sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 is exemplary. Abstract: A novel HIV type O immunodeficiency virus is disclosed which has the designation MVP-2901/94 and which has been deposited with the European Collection of Animal Cell Cultures (ECACC) under No. V 95012601. The characteristic antigens which can be obtained from the virus and which can be employed for detecting antibodies against retroviruses which are associated with immunodeficiency diseases are also disclosed, as are the partial DNA and amino acid sequences of the virus.

Abstract: Disclosed is a co-polymer based on oxyalkyleneglycol alkenyl ethers and unsaturated dicarboxylic acid derivatives, as well as vinylic polyalkyleneglycol, polysiloxane or ester compounds. These co-polymers can be used as additives for hydraulic binding agents, especially cement. Abstract: A film feeding apparatus includes a roller pair for pinching a film stored and wound within a film container or its leader, and a restricting passage for restricting a posture of a non-pinched portion of the film or its leader. The roller pair is disposed in such a manner that the film or its leader is entrained about one roller of the roller pair in an arcuate form toward an upstream side in a film feeding direction relative to a pinching position of the roller pair. With driving rotation of the roller pair pinching the film or its leader, the film is withdrawn from the film container held at a holding portion to be fed to a film processing section. The restricting passage is curved along an entraining passage of the roller for the film or its leader as the restricting passage is viewed in a direction of an axis of the roller.
Abstract: The invention provides for the production of several humanized murine antibodies specific for the Lewis b antigen, which is recognized by the murine antibody 58-1066. The antigen is expressed on cell lines from colon, lung, bladder, breast, renal, pancreatic and ovarian cancers. The expression of the antigen is greatly increased in cancer tissues as compared to its expression in the corresponding normal tissue. The invention also provides for numerous polynucleotide encoding humanized Lewis b antigen specific antibodies, expression vectors for producing humanized Lewis b antigen specific antibodies, and host cells for the recombinant production of the humanized antibodies. The invention also provides methods for detecting cancerous cells (in vitro and in vivo) using humanized Lewis b antigen specific antibodies. Additionally, the invention provides methods of treating cancer using Lewis b antigen specific antibodies.
