  • Patent number: 4599240
Abstract: A process is provided for the processing of certain organic agricultural foodstuff by-products normally having little commercial value to produce a cellulosic product suitable for human consumption or use in various products. The process of the present invention is characterized by subjecting a variety of certain agricultural by-products having little commercial value, such as, for example, soybean hulls, to a series of separate steps utilizing certain chemical treating to effect a solubilizing and removal of the non-cellulosic components of the by-product agricultural material to produce residue solids which consist essentially of cellulose. The cellulose residue solids are subjected to specified purification procedures and thereafter dried to produce a short, fine fibered cellulose which may be processed to a fine powdered state suitable for use as a component part in a wide variety of edible or otherwise useable products by humans, an example of such a product being a low calorie bread.

  • Patent number: 4599297
Abstract: At least one strip of dry film assembly is supplied continuously to a plurality of mutually spaced apart boards which are also being fed continuously. The film assembly consists of a photosensitive layer sandwiched between a protective film and a base. The base is removed from the assembly when the assembly is supplied to the boards, so that each of the boards may be bonded to the photosensitive layer. The boards and the film assembly are fed intermittently, and the photosensitive layer is exposed to light to print a predetermined pattern on each board. The protective film is removed from the film assembly, and each printed board is subjected to developing treatment.

  • Patent number: 4585238
Abstract: A ring seal of the kind comprising an annular jacket (1) of relatively yieldable material with a channel containing an energizing spring to impart resilience thereto, is characterized in that the channel is of substantially part-elliptical profile and contains a partly spaced spring ring (2) of channel shaped radial profile. The spring ring comprises a pair of metal rings (2a, 2b) which have axial slits and are secured together around their outer periphery prior to insertion in the jacket channel. Additionally the spring ring may have a plane circular ring welded thereto in a central diametric plane and to this latter ring there may be secured a dual component cylindrical protection ring having its axis coincident with the axis of the ring seal.

  • Patent number: 4586103
Abstract: A movable element is attracted and displaced by an electromagnet against the resilience of a return spring to change a tape recorder from stoppage state into operation state. When the element is returned to its original position by the magnet, it moves so as to change the tape recorder from stoppage state into operation state. The return spring is so selected as to exert a force stonger than the attractive force, which acts on the movable element by the residual magnetism of the electromagnet, whereby the return of the element is achieved with certainty. In a case where a tape recorder is supplied with electric power from commercial power, when the supply of such power is cut off due to an accident, such as power failure, while the tape recorder is in use, a combination of a cam and a spring enables automatic restoration of the tape recorder to stoppage state.

  • Patent number: 4585239
Abstract: A ring seal primarily for sealing static mating faces comprises an annular jacket (1), which may be made of low friction plastics material, having a channel of part-elliptical radial profile. Within the channel there is accommodated an energizing spring (2) in the form of a ring of channel-shaped radial profile, there being a gap between a part (M) of the spring ring (2) and the channel to allow movement of the spring ring relative to the jacket when the ring seal is brought into use. The spring ring (2) is made from a transversely folded strip of metal with segmented side edges which is formed into a circle and then has its ends secured together.

  • Patent number: 4584534
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for demodulating a carrier wave which is phase modulated by a subcarrier wave which is phase shift modulated by baseband signals and applies especially to data transmission between a spacecraft and a ground station. The technological problem addressed is reduction of signal degradation and, consequently, of transmission power and size of the receiving antenna. According to the invention, the frequency is first down converted to an intermediate frequency (f.sub.c) which is lower than the carrier wave frequency; the subcarrier wave is extracted by phase demodulation using a Costas loop; digital sampling is performed on the signal demodulated in a Costas loop at a frequency which is twice the intermediate frequency (f.sub.c) and the bit clock frequency (f.sub.B) is regenerated in a first order phase locked loop using the subcarrier wave frequency as a reference frequency.

  • Patent number: 4579093
Abstract: A two-cycle, spark ignition engine is improved in order to eliminate the need for the typical reed valves and carburetor, while eliminating the carbon build-up inherent in mixing of the lubricant with the fuel mixture. Fuel and air are injected into the combustion chamber, and oil is injected into the crankcase, while eliminating communication therebetween. The improvement may be provided as a retrofit kit, for the standard two cycle engine, or the original casting of the engine may include the required modifications.
