  • Patent number: 6548031
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for purifying a gas stream containing impurities composed of organic compounds, said gas stream flowing out of a reactor (1) designed for solid phase condensation, preferably for aromatic polyesters and polyamides. According to said method, a gas containing at least oxygen is fed to the gas stream containing the impurities. The combined gas stream is then conveyed, at a high temperature, especially from 280° C. to 380° C., onto a catalyst (8) containing rhodium or a rhodium alloy on an inert porous support. It was found advantageous that the amount of oxygen used be hypo stoichiometric, in relation to the organic impurities, and/or that the ratio of oxygen to impurities be controlled by means of a lambda probe (A). Such a lambda probe (A) is used in a facility according to the invention.

  • Patent number: 6523904
Abstract: An outdoor furniture frame construction is provided with a pair of fixedly mounted rails across which and into which a plurality of plastic straps are mounted in tensioned manner. Each rail is provided with a slot to receive an enlarged end of a strap as well as a lip defined by the slot and against which a folded over end of each strap abuts. The straps are heated before being mounted in the rails to permit stretching of the strap and placement in the rails. When in place, the enlarged ends of the strap engage against the lip in each rail for anchoring purposes. Damaged straps may be readily removed without having to remove additional straps.

  • Patent number: 6520461
Abstract: The leg support is constructed of a split plastic housing into which a tubular plastic foot is threaded. Metal sleeves of non-corrosive material are slidably mounted on each of the housing and foot to provide an aesthetic appearance. The internal thread on the housing is a buttress thread with a not quite perpendicular load receiving flank. The external buttress thread on the plastic foot has a mating upper flank. The leg support is able to withstand relatively heavy loads.

  • Patent number: 6505498
Abstract: The apparatus employs a steel ball which is mounted in upstanding manner on a pin and a frame on which a golf club is pivotally mounted to freely pivot. The golf club is pivoted from a fixed position to impact the head of a golf club against the steel ball and an oscilloscope is used to record the acceleration and movement of the steel ball from its fixed point in response to the impact of the head and also calculates a velocity history of the steel ball. The time at which the calculated velocity is at a maximum is determined. Several impacts are made to obtain an average characteristics time (tz) and the representative spring constant (Kc) of the clubhead is calculated using the equation: Kc=0.2971×tz−2.15570.

  • Patent number: 6490762
Abstract: In a lap winding apparatus for producing a batt lap, the batt is wound onto a tube which is rotatable about a fixed axis and is driven by a revolving endless belt. The belt is arranged in a loop, formed between two deflecting rolls and is tensioned by a tensioning device. The tube which is rotatable about a fixed axis, as well as the two deflecting rolls are dimensioned, and positioned relative to each other, in such a manner that the loop at the beginning of the lap winding process embraces the tube over an initial minimum wrapping angle equal to, or larger than, 120° and preferentially equal to, or larger than, 180°. For generating a tensioning force depending on the lap diameter, the tensioning device is associated with a control device.

  • Patent number: 6473987
Abstract: A wafer edge grinding or polishing machine is provided with a pair of chucks for engaging a wafer therebetween, a fixed reference surface and a sensor which is movable with a movable chuck. Measurements are made by the sensor relative to the fixed reference plane when the movable chuck is in engagement with the opposite chuck without a wafer therebetween in order to obtain a standard measurement value. With a wafer between the chucks, the sensor obtains an actual measurement value relative to the fixed reference surface. A calculator determines the difference between the standard and actual measurements values and displays the difference as the thickness of the wafer. Multiple sensors may be used to obtain multiples readings which are averaged by the calculator to obtain a thickness measurement.

  • Patent number: 6473640
Abstract: The implantable device for long term monitoring of congestive heart failure employs a signal generator, such as within a pacemaker, to generate an electrical signal which is monitored to obtain a single or dual frequency measurement that can independently measure systemic venous and pulmonary (lung) impedance. The device is able to detect changes in resistance to a flow of current in the systemic venous system and changes in impedance to a flow of current through a lung to thereby indicate separate detection of systemic venous and pulmonary congestion.

  • Patent number: 6471182
Abstract: An actuator for opening and closing a globe valve. The globe valve has a stem through which positioning of the globe valve is achieved. The globe valve is normally biased to open position. The actuator comprises an electric motor which drives a worm and pinion arrangement. The pinion drives an output gear which gear is movable between a base and a raised position within a frame and held in the base position by a compression spring with a similar compression rating to that of the required valve shutoff. The output gear drives a worm stem bearing against the stem of the globe valve to move it against its bias in one direction to close the globe valve. The output gear and worm stem are arranged so that, when the globe valve is fully closed, the worm stem is at its extreme position in that one direction and the output gear then begins to move within its frame from its base to its raised position.
