Abstract: A machine (200) for winding a strip of material (212) into a helical pipe wherein adjacent convolutions of the strip (212) are interlocked. The machine comprises: a frame (220) having circumferentially spaced supports in the form of rollers (266, 276, 278, 286, 288, 296 and 298) adapted to bear against the inner periphery of the pipe being wound, the outer peripheral surfaces of the rollers forming a helical path for the strip (212) and along which the strip (212) is directed when the machine (200) is in use; driving rollers (224) mounted to the frame (220) for driving the strip (212) around the outside of the rollers so as to follow the helical path and cause the adjacent edges the strip (212) to interlock; and drive means (226) mounted to the frame for driving the driving rollers (224). The driving rollers (224) and the drive means are located wholly inside of the path formed by the rollers and no part of the machine (200) engages the outer periphery of the pipe being wound.

Abstract: Compositions and methods are described for hydrating terminal alkynes catalytically in anti-Markovnikov fashion. The compositions comprise a transition metal complex including at least one organic ligand having at least two heteroatoms, wherein the heteroatoms are directly bonded or located one atom away. Preferably, at least one of the heteroatoms is nitrogen, which is typically provided as part of a heterocyclic ring. Other preferred heteroatoms include S, P, N, As or Se. A particularly preferred catalyst employs a P-linked imidazole ligand bound to Ru. Such complexes have a controlled adaptable proton transfer ability and/or a hydrogen bonding ability making them particularly useful as chemical reaction facilitators.
Abstract: Ophthalmic lenses, such as corneal contact lenses, include a lens body made of a composition including a lens body made of a composition including a first crosslinked polymer material which is water swellable, and a second polymeric material, other than the first material, selected from water soluble polymeric materials, water swellable polymeric materials and mixtures thereof. The second material is physically immobilized by the first material. Such lenses provide increased water retention and/or increased water content and/or increased modulus and/or reduced friction which increases lens wearer comfort. Compositions and methods for providing such lenses and compositions are also provided.
Abstract: Intraocular lens combinations are provided which include a first optic having a negative optical power and being adapted to be placed in a substantially fixed position in a mammalian eye. A second optic having a higher optical power than the first optic is provided. In addition, a movement assembly is provided which is coupled to the second optic and is adapted to cooperate with the eye to effect accommodating movement of the second optic in the eye. Very effective accommodation is provided with the present intraocular lens combination. The present combinations can be effectively positioned to effectively inhibit or reduce the risk of posterior capsular opacification (PCO).
Abstract: A controlled-release coolant additive composition for use in engine coolant systems comprising a core containing at least one coolant additive component and a polymeric coating encapsulating said core. The controlled released coolant additive composition slowly releases the coolant additive components to an engine coolant system, thereby delivering an effective concentration level of coolant additive components over an extended period. The controlled-release coolant additive composition maintains a minimum concentration level of active coolant additive components in the coolant system.
Abstract: Power distribution apparatus include a rack mountable housing, an electrical power input assembly and an electrical power output assembly including a plurality of external circuits adapted for hardwired to remote equipment and a plurality of internal circuits each adapted to receive a plug of electrical equipment and to provide power thereto. The plurality of internal circuits may include differently configured receptacles adapted to receive differently configured plugs.

Abstract: An integrated control and monitoring system for airport avionics is made single-point-of-failure impervious by continuously operating pairs of parallel-connected concentrators, Remote Master Workstations and Remote Slave Workstations, and a pair of independent LANs each connecting one of the concentrators of a pair to the Remote Workstations. Each concentrator of a concentrator pair, while in secondary status, monitors the operation of the concentrator in primary status, and whenever it observes a failure of communication will assume primary status and continue to allow ICMS to function in a normal manner. Likewise, another Remote Master Workstation automatically assumes Remote Master Workstation status if it fails to see an operational active master station on the network.
