  • Patent number: 6500967
Abstract: To provide an epoxide-production-use catalyst that is suitably used for producing an epoxide by partial oxidation of an unsaturated hydrocarbon, a catalyst in accordance with the present invention is obtained by fixing gold fine particles to a carrier containing an oxide containing at least one of titanium and zirconium, and has an acid quantity of not more than 0.1 mmol/g determined by the NH3-TPD method. Such a catalyst for epoxide producing use can be produced by, for instance, fixing gold fine particles to a carrier having an acid quantity of not more than 0.15 mmol/g. The catalyst for epoxide producing use arranged as above is preferably used as a catalyst in partial oxidation of an unsaturated hydrocarbon to produce a corresponding epoxide.

  • Patent number: 6484438
Abstract: A pest control device is provided with (1) a volatile substance holder, which includes a pest control component volatilization surface and a liquid volatilization surface, and (2) an indicator, which is composed of a wick and a bottle. The pest control component volatilization surface holds a pest control component volatile at ordinary temperature so that the pest control component can be volatilized into the air, while the liquid volatilization surface is able to hold a liquid volatile so that the liquid can be volatilized into the air. The wick is for supplying the liquid to the liquid volatilization surface of the volatile substance holder, while the bottle contains the liquid to be supplied to the liquid volatilization surface via the wick. In this manner, the indicator indicates how much the pest control component, which is volatilized from the pest control component volatilization surface is left, by showing how much the liquid is left in the bottle.

  • Patent number: 6465668
Abstract: A method for easily and inexpensively producing and purifying a fluoroaryl metal compound such as bis(pentafluorophenyl)dialkyltin which is less colored and has no impurities is provided. Hydrocarbon magnesium halide is reacted with fluoroaryl halide in a solvent including an ether solvent so as to obtain fluoroaryl magnesium halide, which is then reacted with an organic metal compound so as to produce a fluoroaryl metal compound. Tin is more preferable as a metal atom included in the organic metal compound. As for the ether solvent, chain ether solvents are preferable, more specifically, diisopropyl ether, dibutyl ether, and t-butylmethyl ether are more preferable. Besides, it is preferable that magnesium halide, which is a by-product of the fluoroaryl metal compound, is precipitated and removed, or treated with an acid.

  • Patent number: 6433962
Abstract: A limited use tape cassette comprising a housing enclosing a tape spooled to pass from a rotatable supply reel to a rotatable take-up reel during tape play, and from the take-up reel to the supply reel during tape rewind. A follower arm is pivotally mounted on the housing and is biased to engage spooled tape on the one of the reels, preferably the supply reel. An erase arm is pivotally mounted on the housing and is movably and releasably connected to the follower arm. The erase arm has a tape erase head thereon and is biased toward the take-up reel. Upon predetermined movement of the follower arm which results from predetermined tape movement between the reels, the erase arm is released from the follower arm to move the erase head into engagement with the tape on the take-up reel to erase it as it is being rewound onto the supply reel. After the erased tape is rewound onto the supply reel, the erase arm moves the erase head to an inoperative position to enable the erased tape to be reused.

  • Patent number: 6356691
Abstract: An optical waveguide display having an embedded light source is provided. The optical waveguide display having an embedded light source includes a light source unit including a plurality of light sources for generating light according to an applied voltage and an optical waveguide display unit including a plurality of optical waveguides on which the light generated by the light source unit is incident. The light sources are aligned to be adjacent to the optical waveguides of the optical waveguide display unit in one panel so that the light generated by the light sources is directly incident on the optical waveguides. Accordingly, in the optical waveguide display having the embedded light source, optical loss is reduced. Also, the size of the outward shape of the display is reduced since a complicated optical structure can be simplified. The display is able to withstand a large amount of shock from the outside, and gray scale levels can be easily controlled.
