Abstract: Detectors for ionizing radiation (X-rays, gamma rays, electrons, protons, alpha particles, etc. as well as neutrons) of the gas proportional scintillation counter type using techniques to compensate for a loss of scintillation light reaching the photosensor due to solid angle and reflection effects. Two such techniques are disclosed. One technique involves the use of two non-parallel electrically charged grids which produce a radially increasing electric field, thus radially increasing the intensity of the scintillation light. Another technique involves the use of a mask of small opaque dots having a radially decreasing density covering the photosensor, thus radially increasing the intensity of the scintillation light transmitted to the photosensor. The preferred embodiment for X-ray detection consists in a detector, filled with very pure xenon at atmospheric pressure, with a 2.5 cm diameter radiation window (1), a grid with a spherical (2 cm radius) curvature (2) with its edges placed 0.

Abstract: Aqueous disinfectant concentrate which includes succinic dialdehyde, glutaraldehyde and/or formaldehyde, one or more alcohols of limited water miscibility and optionally usual auxiliaries. By diluting with water, a working solution can be prepared from the concentrate. The advantages of the new disinfectant concentrate or disinfectant are the reduced development of odor, an improved material compatibility, an improved microbicidal effectiveness and a clearly increased storage-stability. Furthermore, the activation usual up until now with disinfectants based on aldehyde is superfluous. Preferred application fields are surface and instrument disinfection.

Abstract: A process for controlling the microwave heating of a product to a temperature which is higher than or equal to a determined temperature for a period which is longer than or equal to a determined period, a marking support and a receptacle for product intended for such a control. Measurement is made of the resistivity of a thermally crosslinkable ink filled with conductive particles, with which the product or the receptacle containing the product has been previously marked and the resistivity of which is arranged to decrease in a predetermined manner in relation to the temperature and the period of microwave heating. The invention is applicable especially to the control of the sterilization of a pharmaceutical or agri-foodstuff product.

Abstract: Aqueous acidic thixotropic hard surface cleaning formulations, having a viscosity of 2000 to 10,000 centipoise containing on a weight to weight basis:(a) 0.5 to 6.0 percent of hydrated aluminum silicate that is substantially free of inert mineral impurities;(b) 0.1 to 3.0 percent of an amphoteric material or a highly alkoxylated block copolymer;(c) 0.1 to 5.0 percent of a nonionic surfactant selected from the group consisting of polyoxyethylene derivatives of higher alcohols and polyethylene glycol ethers of linear alcohol;(d) sufficient acid to establish a pH in the range 0.9 to 3.5;(e) 5.0 to 50.0 percent of an abrasive;(f) 1.0 to 5.0 percent of a cleaning solvent; and(g) sufficient deionized water to make 100 percent.
Abstract: A medallion article comprising a base member having a planar inner surface and a substantially planar lens mounted on the base member, said lens having an indicia-bearing inner surface spaced from the inner surface of the base member, whereby the indicia on the inner surface of the lens appear as shadows on the inner surface of the base.
Abstract: An aqueous cleaning composition for carpets, rugs, and textiles has been discovered with the composition comprising sodium lauryl sulfate, an ethylene glycol monohexyl ether, a fluorosurfactant, a carboxylated polymer salt, and a tetrasodium ethlyenediamine tetraacetate. The composition is effective in removing a variety of stains from carpeting and is particularly effective against oily stains without imparting undesirable properties on the cleaned surface.
Abstract: An aqueous cleaning composition for cleaning hard surfaces has been discovered, the composition comprising: (a) from about 0.1 weight % to about 5 weight % of a siloxane block polymers as structurally represented by Formula A, as follows: ##STR1## wherein PE is CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O(EO).sub.m Me, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O(EO).sub.m H, or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O(PO).sub.n Bu, where EO is ethyleneoxy and PO is 1,2-propyleneoxy and said siloxane block polymer has a molecular weight ranging from about 3000 to about 4000; (b) from about 0.1 weight % to about 5 weight % of a C.sub.9 to C.sub.15 ethoxylate; (c) from about 1 weight % to about 10 weight % of a C.sub.4 -C.sub.9 alkylene glycol C.sub.1 to C.sub.3 monoalkyl ether; and (d) from about 5 weight % to about 15 weight % of a chelating agent. The inventive composition imparts a residual protection on cleaned surfaces thereby assisting to hinder resoiling of the cleaned surface.
Abstract: A pump apparatus for dispensing a selected one of a plurality of liquids includes a pump housing containing a pump which is fixed to a container having a plurality of compartments, each accessed by a separate dip tube. The dip tubes each communicate with bores through a base disposed at the top of the container. A thumb wheel with a single bore is rotated about a central access to align the single bore with the selected one of the dip tubes and the single bore is connected to the pump via a crank-shaped connecting tube. Preferably, the thumb wheel is accessed through a window in the pump housing and has indicia thereon to indicate which of the liquids has been selected for dispensing by the pump.
Abstract: An ironing aid composition for use in the steam chamber of a steam iron comprises propylene glycol, glycerine and optionally a volatile fragrance. The composition can be used drop-wise in concentrated form or can be diluted with water.
Abstract: A non-caustic oven cleaner composition comprises from 1% to 12% monoethanolamine, from 2% to 20% diethylene glycol monobutyl ether and from 1 to 10% of sodium or potassium carbonate. The composition, preferably in an aerosol formulation having from 2% to 10% propellent, is effective at ambient room temperatures. The preferred carbonate is potassium carbonate. Up to 60% of the monoethanolamine can be replaced with an equivalent amount of diethanolamine.
