  • Patent number: 8064873
Abstract: A transceiver for a RFID reader and a transceiver for a RFID transponder (tag) allow communication between the two devices. The RFID reader utilizes an analog front end and a digital backend. In the receiver portion of the transceiver, the front end of the RFID reader uses a pair of down-conversion mixers to demodulate a received signal into in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) components and analog-to-digital converters (ADC) digitize the signal. A digital signal processor (DSP) in the back end processes the digital signal and uses a matched filter for data detection. The RFID tag receives an inductively coupled signal from the reader and the receiver portion of the tag uses a pulse/level detector that employs an analog comparator and a sample and hold circuit to detect the received signal. A digital decoder/controller is used to decode the incoming data and to establish a sampling clock for the pulse/level detector.

  • Patent number: 8064955
Abstract: A device includes an on-chip gyrating circuit that generates a motion parameter based on motion of the device. An RF transceiver generates an outbound RF signal from an outbound symbol stream, transmits the outbound RF signal to a remote station of a wireless network, and generates an inbound symbol stream from an inbound RF signal received from the at least one remote station. A processing module processes the motion parameter to produce motion data, converts outbound data into the outbound symbol stream, converts the inbound symbol stream into inbound data, compares current motion data to past motion data, detects when a difference between the current motion data and the past motion data compares unfavorably to a motion change threshold, and include the motion data in the outbound data when the difference between the current motion data and the past motion data compares unfavorably to the motion change threshold.

  • Patent number: 8064867
Abstract: A dual-band input transceiver block is formed to operably receive one of a 2.4 GHz radio frequency signal or a 5.0 GHz radio frequency transceiver signal in a manner that minimizes duplication of circuitry and creates a combined circuit path for RF front end input stages for much of the input stage. More specifically, the embodiments of the present invention include separate amplification and mixing stages whose outputs are combined by a stabilized load with circuitry for removing a common mode feedback signal. As such, downstream components, such as amplifiers, filters, analog-to-digital converters, and other input path circuit elements, are not duplicated and may be used regardless of whether the dual-band transceiver is operating in a first or second frequency band. Operation is, in the described embodiment, only one frequency input at a time though the invention is not limited to such operation.

  • Patent number: 8055671
Abstract: In most of the Internet search operations, unwanted search results can be eliminated to reduce the high volume of the Internet traffic, and make the search operation highly efficient, according to the present invention. The present invention proposes a two step approach. The first step is to achieve the high relevance of the search results by search region restricted search operation. The second step, further adds high degree of relevance to the search results by the contact address correlation with a reliable reference address or the legitimate contact address eliminating the spurious and unwanted sites from the search result list. The region restricted search does searching in a selected geographical region. Thus the region restricted search operation minimizes the search time and huge volume of Internet traffic, which is likely to impair the overall Internet performance.

  • Patent number: 8055129
Abstract: An algorithm is disclosed for performing alien-wavelength channel balancing on channels between optical network elements within an optic-fiber communications system. The algorithm determines initial values of various optimization parameters for each of the channels, such as the input launch power and operating conditions of optical amplifiers in the optical path, and calculates an initial total optimization offset for the channels based on the initial values of the optimization parameters for each of the channels. The algorithm then adjusts the optimization parameters to new values and calculates a new total optimization offset based on the new optimization parameter values. The algorithm repeats this process until the relative channel launch powers and optical amplifiers are optimized.

  • Patent number: 8050237
Abstract: Apparatus and method to process a pilot channel and a synchronization channel to obtain a combined noise estimate of the pilot channel and the synchronization channel that is synchronized to the pilot channel. The combined noise estimation is processed to determine a first noise component for a period when both the pilot channel and the synchronization channel are present. Then, the combined noise estimate is processed to determine a second noise component for a period when only the pilot channel is present. Next, the second noise component is subtracted from the first noise component to derive a noise estimation for the synchronization channel. The technique may be applied to the Common Pilot Channel (CPICH), and the Synchronization Channel (SCH) defined in a 3rd Generation Partnership Project standard specification.

  • Patent number: 8050234
Abstract: A cellular wireless communication system and method of operation manages Walsh codes in order to ensure that sufficient Walsh codes are available to prevent call blocking and to support additional hand-off operations. In an initial operating condition, the cellular wireless communication system services normal hand-off operations in which a maximum number of cells and sectors may participate in hand-off. With hand-off operations according to the present invention, each cell or sector participating in hand-off for a mobile terminal uses a unique Walsh code for covering its forward link signals. When the number of Walsh codes available for servicing new calls is reduced so that it meets or exceeds a Walsh code availability threshold, the number of cells and sectors that may participate in hand-off is reduced from the maximum number. In the number of participating cells/sectors results in release or non-use of some Walsh codes.

  • Patent number: 8050330
Abstract: An integrated receiver with multiple, independently synchronized clock signals for multiple channel transport stream decoding and delivery substantially implemented on a single CMOS integrated circuit is described. An integrated circuit that services two satellite programs must generate and distribute corresponding time domain clocks to the various components of the integrated circuit. The transport block that receives one or more satellite signals from a demodulating block will extract program clock recover values from each signal being decoded and use these values to produce an error signal or control word that serves as an input to a clock generator. Based upon this input, the clock circuit will produce a corresponding time domain clock for each channel serviced by the integrated circuit. The output of the clock circuit is distributed to the various processing blocks within the integrated circuit that operate upon channel content received and processed by the transport block.

  • Patent number: 8045852
Abstract: An algorithm is disclosed for performing channel balancing on channels between optical network elements within an optic-fiber communications system. The algorithm groups at least a portion of the channels into channel pairs, differentially adjusts the transmitter output power level of each of the channel pairs until the bit error ratio (BER) of at least one channel in each of the channel pairs exceeds a threshold, and records a respective power margin for each of the channels as the difference between the initial and final power levels. From the recorded power margins, a mean power margin is determined that is used to shift the transmitter output power level of each of the channels.
