  • Patent number: 4825030
Abstract: Device placed at the outlet of a machining zone and having an outflow gauge equipped with two barrels in which a metal wire passes, an electrical current running through the wire which travels under tension between two guides, a pumping installation injecting a machining fluid under pressure through an opening of this guage, an element mounted at another opening of the gauge to measure the outflow of this fluid between wire and barrel, a transducer converting this measurement into an electrical variable, and a comparator suitable for sending a signal to a control unit when this measurement reaches or surpasses a reference value. The control unit is arranged for controlling a pulse generator to change at least one machining parameter in such a way as to bring the measurement of the outflow to or to below the reference value. This device is useful for monitoring the variation in the cross-section of the wire and preventing its breaking.

  • Patent number: 4819908
Abstract: A quick connect fluid coupling having a female part and a male part which is insertable into the female part to thereby establish the fluid connection between the coupling parts. A metal spring retainer in the female part engages an outwardly extending flange on the male part upon insertion into the female part to lock the coupling parts together. In addition, a shut off valve member is contained within the female part and is movable between a closed position and an open position. In the closed position, a seal ring in the female part sealingly engages a central cylindrical portion of the valve member and blocks fluid flow through the female part. Conversely, upon insertion of the male part into the female part, the male part moves the valve member to its open position and enables fluid flow through the fluid coupling parts. Simultaneously, the seal ring engages the outer periphery of the male part and fluidly seals the male and female parts together.

  • Patent number: 4817963
Abstract: A method of sealing a joint between two adjacent members comprises the steps of forming a gap between the members to be sealed and then introducing a bead of resilient solid material into the gap. The bead is subsequently treated to render it temporarily plastic or fluid so as to cause it to adhere to the facing edges of the members. This treatment can best be effected using a hot air blower. The bottom of the bead may be provided with a non-adhesive strip to prevent adhesion to the bottom of the gap, or the process may be performed in such a way that the bottom portion of the bead is not fused so that it does not adhere to the bottom of the gap.

  • Patent number: 4815282
Abstract: A turbocharged, compounded cycle ducted fan engine system includes a conventional internal combustion engine drivingly connected to a fan enclosed in a duct. The fan provides propulsive thrust by accelerating air through the duct and out an exhaust nozzle. A turbocharger is disposed in the duct and out an exhaust nozzle. A turbocharger is disposed in the duct and receives a portion of the air compressed by the fan. The turbocharger compressor further pressurizes the air and directs it to the internal combustion engine where it is burned and exits as exhaust gas to drive the turbine. A power turbine also driven by exhaust gas is also drivingly connected through the engine to the fan to provide additional power. The size and weight of the turbocharger are reduced since the compressor's work is partially achieved by the compression effect of the fan. The total propulsive thrust includes the fan generated thrust which bypasses the turbocharger and the thrust of exhaust gases exiting the turbine.

  • Patent number: 4815625
Abstract: A system of packaging provides two or more interconnected containers A, B, C in which articles are retained and the containers can be separated from one another to gain access to the articles. The packaging is assembled from elements each including a male and female tubular member 10 and 11 interconnected by frangible connecting means 22. Male members are engaged with female members to assemble a chain of containers which pivot relative to one another.Separation of the connecting means to release a container enables the members 10 and 11 to be twisted relative to one another to gain access to the article.

  • Patent number: 4814574
Abstract: The device has a case (1) which has a wire guide (2) and a chamber (4) filled with machining liquid which is brought there under pressure by a pipe (7). A nozzle (5) in the shape of a truncated cone fits in the case and closes the chamber (4) in its normal working position by supporting its periphery on the flange (6) provided around the case (1), under the action of the pressure exerted by the dielectric liquid and if necessary by a return spring (8). The thrust exerted on the nozzle by an obstacle (10) during a lateral collision tilts the nozzle without damaging it and it causes at L an escape of liquid which causes the pressure to drop in the chamber (4). A transducer (13) signals the drop in pressure following the collision to the operator and/or to a control system of the erosion machine.
