Abstract: A multiple-hierarchical-level multiprocessor system having first numbers of processing modules comprising, each, at least one processor and connected to a first group of common direct-access communication lines for forming a first hierarchical level (family); a first processing module of each of the aforementioned first numbers also being connected to a second group of common direct-access communication lines for forming a second hierarchical level (region); a second number of the aforementioned second groups of common communication lines being interconnected via data transmitting and receiving means for forming a third hierarcical level (region network); the aforementioned means comprising at least one processor for enabling operation independent of the aforementioned modules.

Abstract: A cargo carrier is detachably engageable with a standard trailer hitch. The carrier is connected solely to the hitch, rather than to any portion of the vehicle body or bumper. A hitch tongue engaging portion is insertably engagable with the trailer hitch tongue, and a platform is attached to the engaging portion. The carrier is retained on the vehicle by the passage of a lockable clevis pin through registering holes in the tongue portion and the engaging portion. The carrier has the advantages of straightforward construction and tool-free attachment to the vehicle.

Abstract: There is disclosed a method of making porous, vacuum formed filter tube having randomly oriented glass fibers and having at least one layer of a suitable sheet material wrapped around said porous filter tube and being in intimate contact therewith, said disclosed combination having an outer support structure of a predetermined inside diameter sufficient to compress the assembly of said porous filter tube and said sheet material when it is slipped thereover, thus providing compression from the outside to the inside and forcing the layer of sheet material into intimate contact at vertually all points with said porous filter tube.

Abstract: A bottom scoop for collecting and admitting water to the propulsive power plant of a water craft includes an outer body portion secured to the outside surface of the hull of such water craft and an inner body portion removably disposed in said outer body portion. The inner body portion has openings in one end that admit water into a cavity in the inner body from which the water flows through a conduit through the hull that carries the water to the conventional cooling system of the power plant.

Abstract: A device for retaining, carrying and making easily graspable one end of a mooring line for a boat adjacent a dock or mooring. The device includes an extensible member having two ends and which is movable between an extended position in which the ends are spaced apart from each other and a retracted position in which the ends are closely adjacent each other. One end of the extensible member is secured to a predetermined position adjacent the dock or mooring buoy while the other end of the extensible member is fashioned into an easily grasped shape and is detachably secured adjacent to a free end of the mooring line. A spring or other means is used to urge the extensible member towards its retracted position so that the device maintains the mooring line at a predetermined accessible position adjacent the dock or mooring and above the water line. This enables the mooring line to be easily retrieved by the returning boater and used in its normal fashion to secure the boat.

Abstract: A system for extending the effective operational range of an infrared remote control system of the type having a remote control unit with an infrared transmitter and a controlled device having an infrared receiver. The system includes a first repeater positioned physically in the area where the remote contol unit will be used. An infrared receiver is contained within the first repeater and generates an electrical output signal representative of the infrared signal received from the remote control unit. A radio transmitter at the first repeater then transmits a radio signal to a radio receiver at a second repeater which is physically adjacent the controlled device(s). The radio receiver generates a second electrical signal representative of the received radio signal and this second electrical signal activates an infrared transmitter which transmits an infrared signal to the controlled device(s).

Abstract: A lift/tow assistance device to relieve the lower arm in sporting activities, particularly when strenuous, using equipments, which the user holds on particularly in equipment gymnastics, featuring a cuff for placing around the wrist, connected by a strap with a lock to a hook, which can be hung into the sporting equipment. In order to improve and further develop such a lift/tow assistance device so that it is not only easier to use but also ensure that it provides the user with optimum stress relief the strap lock is directly secured to the hook and is provided with a clamp lever which clamps the strap to a clamp plate of the lock when the strap is subjected to tension.

Abstract: A coverture for protecting a portion of the face from make-up during application of the make-up to the face comprises a shield having at least one make-up impervious section and a means for holding the shield adjacent the protected portion of the face during the application of the make-up. Additionally, a method of applying make-up to a first portion of the face comprises the steps of holding a shield adjacent a second portion of the skin to which make-up is not to be applied, applying make-up to the fast portion of the face, and removing the shield from the first portion of the face, wherein the shield has at least one make-up impervious portion.

Abstract: A shipping log for supporting a plurality of sheet members such as automotive lites. The shipping log has a plurality of vertical slots to maintain the sheet members in a spaced apart vertical alignment and a resilient formable strip extending across a plurality of grooves and deformable into the grooves under the weight of the sheet members to prevent longitudinal displacement of the sheet members.

Abstract: A cleaning system is provided for cleaning fuel injectors of deposits inhibiting their efficient operation. The system provides a circuit for cleaning fluid to be passed through the injector and includes a pump for fluid and controls whereby the fluid is passed through the injector with periodic reversals of flow. A flowmeter is provided to check the cleaning action and an electrical supply to the injector ensures it is in an open condition during cleaning. The injector is releasably located in fluid communication with the fluid.

Abstract: In a process for the production of a fermented drink with a reduced alcohol content, alcohol is removed from the drink by dialysis and then removed from the dialysis liquid by vacuum distillation. The fermented drink in the original condition is used as the dialysis liquid and flavor and aroma-giving substances which are desired in the finished drink and which occur in the vacuum distillation operation are returned to the dialysis liquid prior to re-use thereof.

Abstract: A balancing arrangement is provided for balancing the secondary out of balance forces of four cylinder in line engines. A gearwheel carried on the crankshaft transmits drive to a further gearwheel and each of the gearwheels is arranged to drive a balancing wheel. The balancing wheels are driven in opposite directions at twice the rotational speed of the engine. Each wheel is provided with adjustment means whereby backlash in the wheels is taken up. The arrangement is of particular application to motorcycles.

Abstract: A system for controlling the power window regulators of at least the doors on the driver and front-seat passenger sides of a vehicle includes control switches having settings corresponding to at least the fully and partly open and closed positions of the windows. The control switches provide electric control signals corresponding to the switch settings. The regulator control system also includes at least one electric control motor and a motor control system which controls the motor in dependence upon the control signals received from the switches. The signals are coded in correspondence to the switch settings, for example, by differing voltage levels, and are supplied along a minimum number of wires (optimally a single wire for all the switches corresponding to each motor) to a decoder in the motor control system. The regulator control system is advantageous in the elimination of the plurality of wires previously required for individually connecting each switch position to the motor control system.

Abstract: An improved medication administration system includes a series of one way valves disposed closely adjacent and in direct fluid communication with an auxiliary IV line leading to a patient. A plurality of syringes filled with various selected medications are each secured in a tray against axial and lateral movement by depressing them into correspondingly dimensioned longitudinal grooves. The flanges of the syringes abut a lip of the tray to further restrict axial movement. The nozzles of the syringes are connected to the inlets of the valves so that medication can be adminstered intravenously by simply depressing the appropriate syringe plunger. The tray is surrounded by a supporting outer box which includes retractable clamps for fastening the tray to an operating table. A second similarly shaped box is adapted to be clipped to the first box or clamped to the table. The second box can contain miscellaneous medical equipment.

Abstract: A housing unit for a domestic animal comprises a frame for supporting a fabric flexible cover, the frame defining a main housing compartment constituted by tubes joined by connecting elements also define a second chamber or entrance porch. At least the main compartment is provided with a ground sheet which extends under the main chamber and incorporates edge portions defining or connected to upright side walls of a bed base for the animal. A waterproof flexible cover, formed as a unitary layer, is fitted over the frame and has a plurality of tabs by which the cover can be secured to the ground, such as by ground-engaging attachment pegs. A further lining sheet attached under the frame may also be provided.

Abstract: There is disclosed a method and apparatus for continuously making cardboard runners and stringers and assembling them into a cardboard pallet. Whether a runner or stringer is involved, the method involves essentially supplying a fiberboard blank of appropriate composition and size, running the blank through a perforating and scoring roller to produce fold lines in the blank, and progressively folding the blank from the outside in, by passing it through a plurality of curvilinear rods, and applying adhesive to portions of the blank during the folding process. The runners and stringers thus produced are assembled together to form a cardboard pallet.

Abstract: An apparatus for machining a workpiece such as a crankshaft provides a superior combination of low initial and rebuilding costs, high flexibility in tool changeover and alteration of configuration, yet minimizes floor space and noise level while allowing the combining of several machine operations in a single step. The apparatus also permits the use of optimum cutting speeds, cutting tool feeds, cutting tool composition and cutting tool dimensional tolerances. The apparatus includes a lathe bed to which the crankshaft is mounted and rotated at a variable rate of speed, as well as an arbor disposed parallel to the axis of rotation of the workpiece, rotatable in the same direction at a variable speed. At least one cutter disk is fixedly mounted to the arbor. The disk has a plurality of cutting tools disposed about part but not all of its circumfery, the tools being located at a generally increasing distance from the center of the disk in a stepwise fashion.

Abstract: A protective structure comprises a plurality of individual sections each one of which coacts with adjacent sections on both sides that are arranged seriatim to form an elongate unit. A closure at one end is removable affording access and egress from the structure and a closure at the other end is fixed in position. The individual sections are made, preferably, of FIBERGLAS that are spray-coated on the inside with a plastic.

Abstract: A transport speed control system for a glass ribbon annealing installation comprising means to control a peripheral drive speed of those of glass ribbon transporting rollers which contact a portion of the glass ribbon at positions downstream of at least a substantially mid-position of the glass ribbon with respect to a direction of transport, to be higher than an advancing speed of that portion of the glass ribbon.

Abstract: A twin wheel rim assembly is disclosed for use with an axle having a hub with an outwardly extending lip adjacent its inner end. The entire wheel assembly includes a pair of substantially identical wheels each having a rim with an outwardly flared portion as well as a tubular and cylindrical spacer. The wheels and the spacer are coaxially positioned over the hub so that the outwardly flared circumferential portion of one wheel abuts against the outwardly extending lip of the hub and so that the spacer is sandwiched in between the wheel rims. The wheel spacer is unable to slip because it has affixed to it evenly spaced ribs between each pair of wheel spokes. Both ends of each rib abut between each pair of wheel spokes. The ribs on the inside of the spacer is the primary element which prevents wheel slippage. This element in conjunction with the serrated edges will prevent wheel slippage.
