    Abstract: A method of making steel beams in accordance with the present invention comprises sending web fabrication information to a web cutting station indicative of web sizes needed to make webs for steel beams and indicative of a web discharge sequence in which the webs are to be discharged from the cutting station. Steel plate is cut at the cutting station to form webs having the indicated web sizes. A series of the webs are transported from the cutting station to a beam station according to the web discharge sequence. Flange fabrication information is sent to a flange station indicative of flange sizes needed to make flanges for the beams and a flange discharge sequence in which the flanges are to be discharged from the flange station corresponding to the web discharge sequence. Steel stock is cut so as to form flanges having the indicated flange sizes. The flanges are transported to the beam station according to the flange discharge sequence so as to match the flanges with an associated one of the webs.

    Abstract: A metering device that includes a housing defining a cylindrical chamber containing a reciprocating shuttle. The two opposed end parts of the chamber are interconnected by fluid flow ducts to a cylindrical valve bore. Contained with the valve is a rotary valve rod driven rotationally by a stepping motor. The valve rod has part cut away to form channels or recesses. In one rotational position of the valve rod a flow path is established from an inlet to one end of the chamber and a separate flow path is established from the other end of the chamber to an outlet. In an alternate orientation of the valve rod a flow path is formed from the inlet to the other end of the chamber and the first end of the chamber is connected to an outlet.

    Abstract: A coupler apparatus for use with precast concrete segmental construction having a first duct, a first coupler member extending over and around the first duct, a second duct, a second coupler member extending over and around the second duct and a gasket received at the ends of the first and second coupler members so as to prevent liquid from passing between the coupler members into an interior of either of the ducts. The ducts extend at a non-transverse acute angle with respect to the ends of the coupler members. Heat shrink seals are affixed to the opposite ends of the coupler member so as to secure the coupler members to the ducts in liquid-tight relationship. The ends of the coupler member have generally V-shaped grooves facing each other. The gasket is received in compressive relationship within the V-shaped grooves.
