  • Patent number: 6172777
Abstract: An optical interface of a holographic memory system electrically selects one of several optical pathways to store or retrieve an image from a holographic memory by activating liquid crystal polarization rotators and novel liquid crystal gratings. In a preferred embodiment a spatial light modulator, a pixelized readout device (i.e., focal-plane array), a series of polarizing optical components, liquid-crystal polarization rotators, liquid-crystal beam-steering devices, and interconnecting and imaging optics are provided. The parallel interconnection accepts a laser-beam input, divides the beam among multiple paths, imparts a data-bearing spatial signature on a signal beam by means of a spatial light modulator, steers a reference beam by means of liquid-crystal beam-steering devices, and directs the appropriate beams into the recording medium.

  • Patent number: 6143256
Abstract: The invention provides an ozone generator controlling apparatus capable of controlling an ozone generator so that when a discharge breakdown occurs in some discharge element, the operation of generating ozone can be continued without imposing a bad influence on the remaining normal discharge elements. When an anomaly occurs in one of or a plurality of discharge elements during the operation of generating ozone, the anomaly is detected by an anomaly detection means. In response to the detection of the anomaly, first output control means reduces the output of an AC power supply circuit to a sufficiently low level so that after the discharge element having the anomaly is isolated from the circuit the operation of generating ozone can be continued with the remaining normal discharge elements without interruption and without causing the normal discharge elements to encounter an overload current thus preventing them from being broken one after another.

  • Patent number: 6141826
Abstract: A cyclonic separation device is provided having improved pressure loss characteristics. A fluid supply conduit in flow communication with an inlet to a cyclone is located and configured to extend longitudinally through a central portion of the cyclone, whereby the sharp bending of the conduit may be reduced, thereby reducing pressure losses in the device, without unduly interfering with the cyclonic flow within the cyclone. The present invention may be adapted for use with cyclonic separation devices of all types, including single- and multi-stage cyclonic separators.

  • Patent number: 6137199
Abstract: A permanent magnet rotor alternator is disclosed having a one-piece, rotor hub.backslash.flywheel.backslash.starting gear. Three high remanence ceramic permanent magnets provide a rotor having a contiguous ring of twelve alternating poles which allows for higher alternator efficiency. The magnets are ceramic and are adhesively bound to the rotor hub, which is driven by an extended crankshaft. The rotor rotates within a wound stator assembly of which the laminated stator core is a part of the alternator's frame assembly, and thus, serves as a shield should a rotor magnet come loose.

  • Patent number: 6128920
Abstract: A dephlegmator includes a feed gas passage and a refrigerant passage. A feed gas introduced into the feed gas passage from the bottom is heat-exchanged with a refrigerant passing through the refrigerant passage. Components having low boiling points are withdrawn as rectified gases from the top, and components having high boiling points are discharged as condensates from the bottom. The refrigerant passage is divided into a first section on the top side and a second section on the bottom side by a bridgewall. In the first section, a liquid or gas-liquid two-phase refrigerant is introduced from the bottom of the refrigerant passage so as to flow parallel to the feed gas. In the second section, a gas fraction of the refrigerant discharged from the first section flows.

  • Patent number: 6125804
Abstract: A variable valve lift device (20) provided in a bore (21) of a cylinder head (11) to open and close a valve (24) in accordance with a rotation of a cam (13, 14, 15) comprises an outer body (22) driven by the cam (13, 14, 15) and slidably provided in the bore (21); an inner body (23) connected to the valve (24) and slidably provided in the outer body (22); a restricting member (26) for restricting mutual displacement between the outer body (22) and the inner body (23); and a synchronizing member (36) slidably provided in the inner body (23) and for controlling the restricting member (26) based on inertia applied thereto. In the present invention, the restricting member (26) is controlled by the synchronizing member (36). The synchronizing member (36) detects the acceleration of the inner body (23) so that the restricting member (26) may restrict the mutual displacement between the outer body (22) and the inner body (23) in timely manner.
