  • Patent number: 4159874
Abstract: In an illustrated embodiment, brightness, color, opacity and fluorescent contribution to brightness of single thickness sheet material are measured by an optical measuring system providing for simultaneous measurement of transmitted and reflected light. One embodiment is designed so as to be capable of transverse scanning of a moving paper web on the paper machine. An optical window member of translucent diffusing material serves as a backing for the web for reflectance measurements and is in series with the web with respect to transmittance measurements. The optical window itself is selected as to its reflectance and transmittance so as to provide for periodic standardization of the instrument in an off-sheet position. Another embodiment will measure the same optical properties of single thickness sheet material selectively, with spectral response filters for characterizing such optical properties and with a series of narrow band filters.

  • Patent number: 4159129
Abstract: In an illustrated embodiment, a backing sheet capable of storing information relative to pharmaceutical prescriptions has a first series of adhesively backed pharmaceutical prescription label segments removably secured thereto, each label segment having formatted zones thereon for facilitating entry of typed information and accommodating simultaneous transfer of typewriter impressions to the backing sheet. A second series of supplemental data segments on the backing sheet provide for recording of supplementary information with respect to each label segment contemporaneously with the typing of the label segment. After removal of a prescription label segment from the backing sheet, the backing sheet has stored thereon both the formatted information as entered on the label segment and necessary supplemental data so as to facilitate computerized pharmaceutical accounting.

  • Patent number: 4158587
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for producing a laminated sheet wherein a thin film laminate is provided which is formed of a thin film laminating or substrate sheet with a heat reactivatible adhesive layer on one side thereof to produce a combined thickness of 11/2 to 3 mils. On the other side of the laminating or substrate sheet a paper carrier sheet is adhesively attached for stiffening the thin film laminating sheet. The thin film laminate or substrate is folded to form a pouch and the sheet to be laminated is placed therebetween. The pouch is then processed in an oven-type laminator to produce the laminated sheet with attached carrier sheet. Finally, the carrier sheet is stripped away to produce the final product. By use of an integral carrier sheet, the relatively thin film laminating sheets may be conveniently used in conventional oven laminators without the need for special supporting techniques.

  • Patent number: 4158174
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for the production of a control signal, in particular a level regulation signal, in a receiving channel which is subject to interference, forms an amplitude-dependent control signal from the phase coded input signal. In the receiving channel a frequency regulating circuit has an oscillator which is synchronized by means of the received signal and the received signal is superheterodyned with the output signal of the oscillator in one mixer, directly, and delayed by 90.degree. in another mixer. The mixed products are then fed through low-pass filters to obtain signals which indicate the frequency shift between the input signal frequency and the oscillator frequency, which signals are converted in a third mixer and serve for tuning the oscillator. The output signals obtained from the outputs of the two first-mentioned mixers, after being fed through low-pass filters, are squared and combined in a difference stage.

  • Patent number: 4156105
Abstract: A circuit arrangement is disclosed which compares a preferred position of a type carrier driven by a stepping motor with binary values of signals actuating the stepping motor. If a signal assigned to the preferred position and a signal produced by the binary values of the signals do not coincide, stepping pulse trains are fed to the stepping motor until coincidence is reached. The stepping motor is thereby accelerated in accordance with an acceleration program so that said stepping motor runs with an approximately constant load angle as soon as possible, and that an unequivocal assignment exists between the stepping pulses and the position of the type carrier.

  • Patent number: 4155156
Abstract: A process is disclosed for the manufacture of solid electrolytic capacitors wherein sintered anode elements with their anode wires are attached to a clamping fixture. In a further step a notch is formed in the anode wires. After bending of the anode wires the anode input wires which are held in an additional fixture are welded on in overlapping fashion. The notch acts as a designed fracturing or breaking point for the final separation of the capacitor elements. It is expedient to design the anode input wires to have a section expanded to form a roof like shovel.

  • Patent number: 4155228
Abstract: A vertical-axis, automatic washing machine has a central drive shaft for oscillatably driving a first agitator portion with a clutch member splined thereto. The clutch has downwardly-facing teeth having drive surfaces and slip surfaces. An auger or second agitator portion coaxial with the first agitator portion has cooperating upwardly-facing teeth. Upon a drive or forward oscillation of the drive shaft and first agitator portion, the drive surfaces engage one another to drive the auger portion in a stepwise rotation. During an opposite rotation of the first agitator portion, the slip surfaces engage one another and, where the contents of the washer basket retards a reverse movement of the auger, the teeth will slip past one another, with the clutch member reciprocating vertically upon its splined connection. An annular cushioning member placed between the clutch and the agitator parts cushions impacts between the teeth during such reciprocations by controlling the depth of tooth engagement.
