  • Patent number: 4154984
Abstract: Frame synchronization is achieved in a pulse code modulation receiver, including a receiving counter, of a pulse code modulation time division multiplex telecommunications network in response to receipt of frame synchronizing signals which occur in each m-th of the pulse frames on which the telecommunications system is based. A hunting process is carried out during a synchronizing time interval following the occurrence of frame synchronizing the signals at intervals of m pulse frames and in response to such occurrence a receiving counter is synchronized. The contents of the time sections in which the frame synchronizing signals can occur are stored for a period of m-l pulse frames, along with the time section contents of corresponding time sections of preceding and following pulse frames.

  • Patent number: 4154987
Abstract: A system for directing calls to selected parties on a multiparty line in exchanges equipped with selective multifrequency ringing generators is disclosed. Ringing applied to the line is converted to a DC logic level pulse train and is compared to logic level pulse trains generated for each frequency of the ringing generator. If the party represented by the frequency on the line has been manually selected for intercept and the pulse trains match for 250 milliseconds, the call is intercepted. Since the pulse trains are at logic level and are generated by the same ringing cycle, they are immune to phase shifts, voltage variations, and electrical noise.

  • Patent number: 4154915
Abstract: An improved catalyst system is disclosed for use in the polymerization or copolymerization of olefins. The catalyst comprises a transition metal compound, an organometal compound and a composite carrier. This carrier is constituted by a SO.sub.3 treated alumina and a magnesium and/or a calcium compound. The polymerization or copolymerization of olefins such as ethylene, propylene and 1-butene is effected under conditions similar to those for reactions by means of Ziegler catalysts, but the resulting polyolefins have a wider molecular weight distribution, viz, a larger flow parameter as required for extrusion or blow molding.

  • Patent number: 4154417
Abstract: A mounting bracket for an outboard electric trolling motor has center and side arms for moving and supporting a propulsion motor, as for a fishing boat, between a submerged, outboard operating position and a retracted inboard, locked and secured storage position on the deck of the boat. An adjustable linkage is interposed between pivot axes on the side arms of the bracket for adjustment of the orientation of the motor shaft in the retracted storage position. Such adjustment selectively biases the propulsion motor housing downwardly onto a resilient pad on the bracket to cushion same against shocks occurring during trailering and during high-speed water operation of the boat.

  • Patent number: 4155003
Abstract: In the illustrated embodiments, a rotary position encoder is manually positioned to select any of a set of x-ray exposure times to be used in making medical x-ray photographs. In one form, the encoder output selects a code word from a read only memory, and a comparator ends the timing cycle when a counter reaches a count value corresponding to the active code word. The pulse generator supplying input pulses to the counter, rather than operating at a constant rate, may be controlled so that the pulse count per unit time corresponds to a specified mAs-product, an x-ray tube being switched off when a selected count value (corresponding to a desired mAs-product) is reached.

  • Patent number: 4154536
Abstract: A screw for use in the bore of an extruder barrel of a molding machine thermo-plastics material feeder has an intermediate section of circumferentially interrupted helical flights or screw threads with inclined ramps on the leading ends of the interrupted flights or threads effective to flatten unmelted lumps of plastics material for increasing the surface area thereof to enhance heat transfer for expediting melting of the material. The tapered ramps are preferably longitudinally grooved forming shallow pockets gripping the plastics material and shearing the lumps as they are wedged between the ramps and bore of the extruder barrel. The peripheries of the flights or screw threads are spaced from the bore of the extruder barrel to define extrusion gaps therebetween with the gaps diminishing in thickness from the inlet to the outlet ends of the screw section or zone.

  • Patent number: 4153842
Abstract: In the illustrated embodiment, each detector is reciprocally mounted for movement from a retracted position clear of the X-ray beam into an operative position. For a fan-shaped X-ray beam which is shifted by activating successive electron sources arranged about a ring anode, successive sets of detectors are activated, always on the opposite side of the patient location from the active focus. As a specific example, successive sets of electromagnets may be activated by an electronic stepping circuit to provide one-degree shifts in the active set of detectors.
